I’m still under the weather, but am gradually improving.  This morning I spent some time collecting part of the data for December’s Monthly Report.  I haven’t forgotten it, but am running behind.  TGIF!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:48 (average 4:53).  To do it, click here.  I’d like three.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Late Show Channel): Jeff Sessions Says Legal Weed… Illegal?

Colbert does a great KKK Beauregard imitation. I hope that twelve year old hammers the gnome. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Furious over a very public breakup with his former adviser Steve Bannon, Donald Trump on Wednesday angrily threw a copy of “Mein Kampf” that Bannon had inscribed to him in the trash.

The book, which Bannon had given to Trump as a token of his love and friendship during the 2016 campaign, had been among Trump’s most prized possessions, aides said.

“Trump loved that book, but now he feels that having Bannon’s name on it ruins it,” an aide said.

Another aide, however, cautioned not to make too much of the fact that Trump discarded the Bannon-signed Hitler book. “He’s still got plenty of other copies,” the aide said.

Andy, I think the Fuhrer wants all those "Heil Fuhrer!" chants directed to him. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Israel is offering a stark choice to tens of thousands of African migrants in the country: Agree to leave voluntarily by the end of March, with a plane ticket and a grant of $3,500, or face possible incarceration.

“Every country must guard its borders,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday, announcing the plan. “The infiltrators have a clear choice — cooperate with us and leave voluntarily, respectably, humanely and legally, or we will have to use other tools at our disposal, which are also according to the law.”

Later, on Facebook, Mr. Netanyahu wrote [Nazi delinked], “The government approved a plan today that will give every infiltrator two options: a flight ticket out or jail.”

Butcher Bibi is setting an example for Republicans on relations with what Bibi calls the schvartzes. RESIST!!

  1. 4:18  Looks like water is still wet. Do you mean 3 boats or just 3 fish?

    New cartoons (copyrighted, therefore linked)

Colbert – Even my Rethuglican Senator is mad – it remains to be seen whether it will be fightin’ mad.  But the other Cory in the Senate, Booker (Mitch’s, not mine) has started a petition

TNY – He also has copies of plenty of other works by Hitler.  And it shows.  Sigh.

NYT – A fine kettle of fish for Ethiopian Jews.  I suppose Bibi doesn’t recognize them … even though they are supposed to have descended from Solomon.  Personally I think Israel should keep Africans and deport Bibi.

Cartoon – Yes, Way!  Republican men, who would not recognize quality if it came to the door and showed ID, will of course not understand.

  2. Colbert: imho….Sessions would do well to have a joint (or two), he’s wound up way too tight. Hope the young lady wins her lawsuit for medicinal mj too. lol.

NYer: Yea,….he’d like that, wouldn’t he? I don’t doubt it for one minute with him in office!! 🙁

NYT: How depressing, and very sad!!

    Cartoon: Yup!!

Glad you are improving day by day, that’s good news! Hope that you get a chance to R&R, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne: Loved the first cartoon, lol. (says it all). The second one, not so much, but shows what the environment will look like with these A–Hats who strip the oceans/lands with their persistent greed. Signed petition. Thank you!

  3. Colbert is ALWAYS a bright spot in the late night landscape! If Sessions keeps up with his “new” direction on marijuana laws, he will (maybe) lose a LOT of repukkklican support! Some have already started balking at his BS policy change! Good on them if they try to stand up for state’s rights!
tRump is showing his a$$ with Bannon! So GLAD! Maybe now we can get some of the right to back us up on getting him OUTA THERE!

  4. YT: Sessions just doesn’t get it. 80-90 years ago, would he have been calling legal booze illegal?

TNY: Whoa, did Bannon REALLY give the Orange Ogre a copy of “Mein Kampf”? Goes to show what his expectations were. So tRump threw it in the trash because it had Bannon’s name in it. Once again, our shameful excuse for a POTUS is proving he’s a spoiled house ape in an old geezer’s body.

NYT: Sounds as though Nuttin’-Yahoo has caught tRump’s disease. I sure would like to know the rationale behind the decision to chase African immigrants out of Israel. He thinks that Africans are “infiltrators”? OK, that settles it – Bibi is officially insane, and furthermore, insane in a bad way.

    Cartoon: Ain’t THAT the truth!

    • It’s hard to say what Sessions would have done 80-90 years ago when Prohibition was winding down, because the circumstances were different, even though the targets of law enforcement were basically the same:  the poor, and immigrants (notably though not exclusively Catholics.)  But Prohibition was a Constitutional Amendment – although it was impossible to prosecute, so all prosecutions were done through the Volstead Act.  (I am not old enough to remember, but I watch Ken Burns.)  Then, as now, states all had their own laws, but overturning Prohibition didn’t come through the states as legalizing marijuana is doing.  So an analogous situation did not arise, and probably could not have arisen.  But, if it had, and he were there, I’m confident he would then have been the same @$$h01e he is today.

  5. Steven Colbert: It’s pathetic to watch Republicans like Jeff Sessions trying to turn back the clock in America. Some things just can’t be undone; the way people think about issues evolves over time, and switching legislation on and off like a light bulb, uhm LED light doesn’t make people change their opinion accordingly. So blue states are just giving Sessions the finger, and 12-year-olds are suing him. Good on ya! 04

TNY: Andy, it’s very unlikely that Bannon is hurt by this gesture; he knew that Drumpf would never read it. According to Bannon/Wolff Drumpf is only semi literate and Mein Kampf is difficult to grasp, even the abbreviated toddler version of it is.

NYT: When African “infiltrators” have been exploited and Drumpf hands them the Palestinians on a silver platter, what can Netanyahu do? The Palestinians may not be brimming with enthusiasm to return to work on the other side of the wall for a day, bu it’ll be their only option in the One State solution Drumpf is going to broker for them.

Cartoon: Which Men of Quality would that be in the GOP, TomCat? I think I need yet to be introduced to the first one.

Keep on going steady on the right side of getting better, TomCat.

  6. Puzzle — 4:21  No way I am going out on that boat with my stuffy head!

The Late Show — The Elf is such a sick puppy.  He is creating a problem where no problem exists. IMO, this is just a political stunt to undo what Obama started . . . rather like looking at charges against Obama for turning a blind eye to Hezbollah.  And no doubt in my mind, he and Drumpf both are hoping to stir enough dust to distract from the Russia investigation.

The New Yorker — Andy, have you forgotten . . . Drumpf does not read!  He needs everything translated into very small soundbites, or even better, pictures.  Cartoons are good!

NY Times — The African migrants are doing no more than what many Jews did . . . migrating to other countries  in search of work and better lives.  Prior to WWII, there were numerous pogroms during which European Jews migrated to Palestine for safety reasons.  Perhaps Bibi’s forebears entered Israel this way.  Perhaps true Palestinians should do the same . . . send non Palestinian Jews back to Europe.  I agree with you that Bibi is likely trying to set a “good example” for Drumpf’s ‘ethnic cleansing’!

Cartoon — Oh yeah!!!  And if they don’t respect women’s equality, they are NOT men of quality and should be given a one way ticket to Mars or even further!

I am glad to hear that you are slowly recovering.  There may be hope for me too, although if I don’t get good sleep, it will take longer and I have no patience for that!  I lay in bed but did not get any sleep last night.  It is time for a nap!

  7. Thanks all.  Bleary eyed hugs. 19
