Muzzling the Press

The Republican Reich has plans to muzzle the press, because there is nothing Republicans won’t do to hide accurate information from the American people.  Fortunately for us there is another Reich, the Reich on the Left, who is virtually always right, Robert Reich.  Here is his take on the sublet.

0118Press

Tyrants don’t allow open questioning, and they hate the free press. They want total control.

That’s why, according to three senior officials on the transition team, the incoming Trump administration is considering evicting the White House press corps from the press room inside the White House and moving them – and news conferences – to a conference center or to the Old Executive Office Building.

This may sound like a small logistic matter. It’s not. The White House “press room” contains work stations and broadcast booths, and the briefing area for presidential news conferences. Reporters have had workspace at the White House since Teddy Roosevelt was president, in 1901.

But we’re in a new era, the reign of King Trump.

Sean Spicer, Trump’s press secretary, acknowledges “there has been some discussion about how” to move the press out of the White House. Spicer says it’s because the new administration would like a larger room to allow more members of the press to attend press conferences.

Rubbish. It’s because a larger room would allow the administration to fill seats with “alt-right” fringe journalists, rightwing social media, Trump supporters and paid staffers. They’d be there to ask the questions Trump wants to answer, and to jeer at reporters who ask critical questions and applaud Trump’s answers

  1. Well.  After we laugh, we cry, we say "I told you so," what do we do next?  David Brinkley's take, is, of course classic – but that isn't what they are afraid of.  They are afraid that an informed populace which resists will be ungovernable by totalitarian tactics – and that, of course, has happened.  I guess the onus is on us to research and inform to the best of our ability.

  2. 1.   "No one can terrorize a whole nation, unless we are all his accomplices."
    2.  "We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it."
*The words of Edward R. Murrow – reporter for CBS.
    RESIST!!!!

Saw an article (can't remember which one though), the Obama's are moving out of the WH into their new house.

  3. Reich is right, Murrow was right, and THE one to stand up to Fascist, alcoholic, Sen. McCarthy!

The excuses for the potential switch of the news conferences is TYPICAL FAKE NEWS, AND BULLSHIT of the GOPigs!

  4. There is NO doubt about it – storm clouds are coming …

  5. If a "leader" controls the press, that leader also controls the people because it is the press that facilitates the flow of information to the people.  If the leader cannot control all of the press, then the leader demonises it.

I have started reading "Winter Is Coming" by Garry Kasparov.  In it, he shows how Putin moved early on to control the press.  All dictators try to control the press because it helps to control the people and maintain a façade of plausibiity.

Oh for the days of Walter Cronkite and other respected journalists who had the courage to report the truth.

    Resist!!!

  6. This is bad news – and yes, we all saw it coming, but it is still bad for all that.  We don't just need reporters who will report the truth – we also need a population who are intelligent enough and conscientious enough to hear the truth.  We don't seem to have enough of either at the moment.

  7. Although not hard to see it coming, Reich is spot on. The muzzling of the media has started, more will follow.

It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff and have independent media unite, stand together and fight for the freedom of press in America. If politicians aren't capable of putting the country's interest before their own, it's up to the press to preserve the last bit of democracy.

    RESIST!

  8. Thanks and Amen to all!

  9. Oh, one day closer.
