Reich on the Pending Tyranny

Of course we’ve covered how the Reich on the left, Robert Reich is always right, and the Reich on the right, the Republican Reich is always wrong.  However, the Republican Reich is now it’s worst ever, and barring unexpected actions, we are about to descend into a level of tyranny reminiscent of 1930s Germany.  To help us, Robert has detailed "The 4 Syndromes of Passivity in the Face of Pending Tyranny."

As the era of Trump approaches, some of you are succumbing to the follow four syndromes:

1. Normalizer Syndrome

2. Outrage Numbness Syndrome

3. Cynical Syndrome

4. Helpless Syndrome

…If you find yourself falling into one or more of these syndromes, that’s understandable. Normalizing, numbing, becoming cynical, and feeling powerless are natural human responses to the gross absurdity and genuine peril posed by Trump.

But I urge you to pull yourself out. We need you in the peaceful resistance army, starting January 20.

From <Robert Reich>

I have not shared the detail under any of the headers, so you need to click through for the bulk of what he has to say, and it’s assuredly worth the read.

Although I have not submitted to any of them, I nave to admit that number 4 has been a temptation to me, but I have seen all of them in people that I know, so please take care.

  1. All good points.  And I won't say it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do SOMETHING, or that it doesn't matter what you say, as long as you say SOMETHING.  Because it does matter.  But I will say it is batter to say something, anything, of resistance, than to sit around and wait for the "perfect thing to say" to come to you.  Because it won't.  You are doing the right thing, TC, and I am trying to.

It also might be a good idea (broken record again) to read Reich in tandem with Masha Gessen's Autocracy: Rules for survival.  Both stress the critical importance of NOT getting paralyzed.  http://www.nybooks.com/daily/2016/11/10/trump-election-autocracy-rules-for-survival/  Yes, I bookmarked that.  In fact I have made a file folder for resistance advice so I can get to it handily.  This Reich article is now in there too.

    RESIST !!!

  2. All good points! RESIST!!

    Thanks, Tom

  3. Yep. #4 is me. I see my SS slipping away, along with my husband's! I don't know what we will do if they cut that off! And Medicare! What would we all do without Medicare?

I'm gonna just sit here and stew. Thanks, TC!

  4. 1. Drumpf a rational person?  Now THAT is an oxymoron if ever I heard one. Anyone who believes that is delusional and in serious need of help!  Drumpf "a clear and present danger to America and the world." is spot on.

    2.  I was getting sick of the Drumpf this and Drumpf that during the campaign, and since, his antics (I'm trying to keep my BP down) are just escalating more and more.  I refuse to let this thin-skinned, narcissistic sorry excuse for a human being dictate my life.  Outrage is a cyclical response, but when you are frozen in outrage, you are no longer able to respond positively.

    3. It certainly would be easy to be cynical what with all the Republican BS that has happened these past 8 years, and the seemingly weak response from many Democrats.  Of course, some voters should not remain blameless either.

    4. I think what is needed is a very strong leader and a plan that can be seen, understood and followed, acknowledging that any plan is not static and must change when needed.

I find myself skirting #4 however that may be inpart because I am not an American and so removed from the direct onslaught.  I will however do what I can from this side of the border, and I will certainly be watching to stop any of Drumpf's barbarism from crossing the border.

    RESIST!!!!!

  5. First I suffered #2, outrage and numbness, now I am on #4, feeling helpless.  I live in a red state, the majority of my friends voted for Trump, some of these people have been friends for over fifty years.  I made my talking points before the election, now, since I have no money to donate to a cause, and neither the health or time to march in a demonstration, I don't know what to do.

  6. Join the peaceful resistance army!

  7. Just saw this and it is very apt here:

"That light must continue to burn, because it is the light of reason and it is nothing less than the flame of our culture that we are nurturing.  We must keep the warmth and the light going; no matter what the forces of darkness do. Our fire must blaze on. We have no choice."

  8. Thanks and Hugs!!
