I slept well again last night in the cool weather we’re having.  I have a nurse, a social worker, and a trainee visiting me this morning from the Providence Elder at Home Program.  Megan referred them, as she thinks they might have some services for me, like, if I catch the flu, I could see a nurse or PA here rather than suffering long Lift waits when I’m sick.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:55 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From KP Daily Funnies: Dany Targaryen’s first political speech

We may be hearing from Rump Dump’s next wife.

From Daily Kos: Tell me you are conservative.  Tell me you are Christian. Tell me you are Republican. Tell me any of these things, and I won’t make too many assumptions about you. Sure, I may assume you go to church every Sunday, eat red meat, and get most of your news from Fox and Friends, but beyond that, I will withhold judgment on the kind of person you are until I get to know you. In fact, as a Southern white male veteran who lives in a very rural area, most of the people in my circles are of the right-leaning variety. I can attest that most people are fairly decent when you get to know them.

This equation changes when you tell me unequivocally that you are voting for Trump. Instantly, I know there are certain things about you and your character that I can assume that I wouldn’t if you told me you supported any other GOP candidate. Ain’t none of them good.

Tell me you are a strong Trump supporter, then you are telling me:

1.  You want to be ruled, not governed.

The single trait that predicts the Trump supporter has nothing to do with race, income, or education. A researcher at the University of Massachusetts found that the top predictor of whether a voter supports Trump is his or her proclivity towards authoritarianism.

Authoritarians obey. They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened. From pledging to “make America great again” by building a wall on the border to promising to close mosques and ban Muslims from visiting the United States, Trump is playing directly to authoritarian inclinations.

So spare me your lectures about market freedoms or any constitutional rights you claim to hold dear. You want a dictator in the style of Putin, which pretty much makes you anti-American.

I shared one of the seven things and, and it’s quite astute. The other six are spot-on defining traits that are just as deplorable. Click through.

From NY Times: Outlining a timetable for Britain to leave the European Union in the spring of 2019, Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday put immigration at the center of her strategy for withdrawal, suggesting that Britain could be headed for a “hard Brexit,” or clean break, from the bloc.

In a speech at the start of the Conservative Party’s annual convention here, Mrs. May said Britain would formally begin exit negotiations by the end of March. Those talks will be governed by a two-year deadline unless all members of the bloc agree to prolong them.

Previously, Mrs. May had said only that the talks, under Article 50 of a European Union treaty, would not begin before the end of this year — a delay designed to buy time for the government to work out its negotiating stance.

On Sunday, Mrs. May also began to lay down her priorities for a deal on withdrawal, known as Brexit, including the power to control immigration and reject European Union rules that allow people to move and settle across national frontiers.

I hope that the sane people in UK can get the xenophobic, Republican-equivalent BRIDIOTS out of power, before they do irreparable damage to both the UK and the EU.

  1. 4:32  What kind of filter (or what kind of reflections) makes water look so pink?

Megan sounds like a real jewel.  Yes, lift waits are never good, but especially when you are sick.  Happy for the religious ecstasy!

KPDF – I don't watch GoT, not getting cable, but apparently it's very popular behind bars, so hubby does, and I've read a little.  This appears to be almost too true to be funny.

DKos – Yes indeed.  After reading this, do you want to revisit the last poll?

NYT – I wish Britain all the luck in the world.  They are between a rock and a hard place.  It's really too bad there aren't enough Justin Trudeaus to go around!  Britain could use one, and I gather so could Australia.  Heaven knows how many other countries.  I'd love to have one here.  Or a bunch.

Cartoon – Yup, that's it.  Did you also see how Obama has revealed that every time he has talked privately with McTurtle (apologies to turtles), the amphibian said, "You ought to give me everything I want, just because every time I talk with you I lose support"?  Barf!

Has everyone signed the Obamas' Anniversary card?  http://action.dccc.org/card/obama-anniversary-16

  2. OMG! That video was HILARIOUS! I loved it! Although my husband has got a bit of a crush on Dany, he still found it so much of a timeline of our election as of today that I actually got a laugh out of him!

Just TOO funny.! Thanks for the belly laughs, TC! Now, on to the rest of the post!

Daily Kos is RIGHT ON the MONEY with that one thing you can learn from someone telling you they are a Rump Dumpster! They are TOTALLY brainwwashed and you can't get a word in edgewise when they start their rants! Case in point: On the Bill Maher show was one SCREAMING example of how out of touch and out of control they get when they are put on the spot and asked to explain some of Rump Dump's views! I almost turned off the show listening to that #WhinyLittleBitch!

I hope the people that voted for Brexit get their shit together and CALL for a re-vote or something along that line before there is damage to ALL the countries involved!

Great post, TC! The cartoon is SO spot on!!!

    • I am SO GLAD that you have an excellent care-giver!

And the game was REALLY GOOD! LOVED IT!

  3. KTDT: I can relate to this, as I'm a die hard GOT fan. Well done!! Yep, DT's next wife, or GF…either one. LOL.

DK: Excellent article, passing on too.

    Cartoon: Sadly, it's the truth.

Glad that you have Megan. I believe that she has your best interests and concerns first and foremost. I hope that all goes through for you, so that you don't have to travel so much, and can stay home when you're sick. It's been a good week for your guys & min too. 😉 . Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. KPDF: Not all that fuuny!

DK: So true.  Those who support Fascism would appear to like fawning docility before The Leader, who will happliy excuse them from using the pre-frontal lobes of their brains-reasoning, executive decision making…ha!  Who the hell needs them, when The Leader does all that exhausting work for you?  All he has to do is tickle your jingoist fear response, and you are his, literally thoughtlessly!

    NYT: How sad is that?

  5. Megan sounding more and more like a gem!

Based on my Mom's having several Home Healthcare Aides when she was still at home, there always seem to be a bit of a transition period.  And they all brought different skills and perspectives, but she was always (eventually) very pleased with each and every one.

Sounds like Megan fits that category, too.

  6. Megan is being very helpful, this is a great idea, glad she referred you.  Much better to have them come to you when you are ill.

KP Daily Funnies:  That was hilarious, and I gladly shared it.

Daily Kos: Okay,my house may be burned down tomorrow, because I shared this one on Facebook.  I am so sick of hearing he is great because he is a successful businessman, or you can trust him because he says what he thinks, or we need to protect the constitution and the Supreme Court. I am going to lose friends over this election, but I cannot abide this attitude anymore.  This article best describes Trump supporters out of any others I have read.

NY Times:  She sounds like a female Donald Trump.  Too bad England is suffering this, hope we don't too.  Vote Blue!

Cartoon:  Is that Mitch McConnell's hand?

  7. Puzzle — 3:39  Beautiful animal for a dawg!  No dawg fricassée today Puddy Tat!

KP Daily Funnies — That sounds much too much like He Who Should Not Be Named ( . . . and never seen or heard!).  Not funny IMO.

Daily Kos — Excellent piece!  As I said yesterday, I daily run into anti Drumpf sentiment and I don't even live in the US.  Drumpf is a toxic waste dump and anyone who supports him is in the toxic soup too!

NY Times — On the news the other day, May's government said they would have to repeal the 1973 law that authorised going into the EU and re-do a whole host of other laws to remove EU wording and provisions.  Can you say chaos?!  Starting at immigration is just giving into fears.  I am not convinced that Britons will show some intelligence and dump the Tories.

Cartoon — McTurtle's hand Edie?  I love it.  That is just how he has acted with Obama since 2009.

I'm glad you have a great PCP in Megan.  It makes life so much easier.  I am now 7 days from my fall and 6 days with the cold.  The shoulder is doing quite well, but the cold feels like it is getting worse.  When I cough, it feels like raser wire in my lungs.  Tried to get an appointment with my PCP but he is on holidays . . . wouldn't you know it.  So now I have to drop into the walk-in clinic to see one of the other doctors after a wait that could be 5 hours or more.  A good bottle of CC or Scotch would be easier!

  8. You must be happy that fall has finally reached Portland, TomCat, with those cooler nights finally allowing you to get some sleep. Your GP Megan is an absolute treasure. She really understands your needs and the transport problems you face every time you need to make a visit for health reasons. I'm sure these people she referred you to will be of service in the future.

KPDF: Even in another "reality" (about as real as the reality show Drumpf was in) Drumpfian leaders aren't very appealing (or truthful) to anyone except to a wild horde.

DK: spot on. SemDem puts his finger exactly on the sore spot (Dutch proverb) when he states: "You know. You just don't care." He's referring to all the classless acts of Drumpf, but it could be says about anything Drumpf does, says or lies about. Drumpf voters couldn't care less that it's abhorrent, sickening and abject, they simply choose to ignore all that, because " Trump supporters don't really believe in anything". That is true of many followers of populist leaders all over the world. The one thing that unites them is that they are "against everything" without having or needing reasonable alternatives. They seem to be stuck in perpetual adolescence.

NYT: It'll be a hard Brexit all right, the EU leaders are furious to be kept waiting for that long and have already refused to begin any pre-negotiations to smooth the way for Britain and certainly won't budge a centimeter (no more inches in the EU) in the coming months. The Britons are not doing themselves any favors by again delaying putting Article 50 forward, but May may be either hoping that the Brexiteers will change their mind in the meantime or waiting to see if Drumpf will come to power in America?

  9. Thanks all!!  Hugs!
