The reason today’s articles are late is that Sunday is Wendy day.  She’s due in ten minutes.  One of her tasks today, other than buffing and stuffing the TomCat, is the complete cleaning of the area you know as the Cat Box:  my computer desk.

Wendy has not come and is not answering texts or phone.  I fear something is wrong, but had better get my articles up, in case she comes.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:40 (average 5:54).  To do it, click here. How did you do?

Short Takes:

From jacklinks.com (H/T JD): What has Lynn been up to?

Dang Squatch!!! Is that your physio?

From YouTube (MoveOn Channel): What Racism Has to Do with the High Cost of College

I could not agree more!

From NY Times: Huge vertical rulers are sprouting beside low spots in the streets here, so people can judge if the tidal floods that increasingly inundate their roads are too deep to drive through.

Five hundred miles down the Atlantic Coast, the only road to Tybee Island, Ga., is disappearing beneath the sea several times a year, cutting the town off from the mainland.

And another 500 miles on, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., increased tidal flooding is forcing the city to spend millions fixing battered roads and drains β€” and, at times, to send out giant vacuum trucks to suck saltwater off the streets.

For decades, as the global warming created by human emissions caused land ice to melt and ocean water to expand, scientists warned that the accelerating rise of the sea would eventually imperil the United States’ coastline.

Now, those warnings are no longer theoretical: The inundation of the coast has begun. The sea has crept up to the point that a high tide and a brisk wind are all it takes to send water pouring into streets and homes.

We might be able to make some money out of this. Lets market SCUBA gear with the GOP logo on the tanks and wetsuits captioned "Global Warming Is a Hoax!"

  1. Wendy made it.  She overslept and and had left her phone at work.

  2. glad Wendy made it, have a great rest of the weekend!

  3. Have a wonderful week and I hope you are better each day! Hugs to you, TC!

  4. 5:03 (4:54, maybe it's new)  More DYC salad.  I don't think that DYCs, most of them , are toxic.  I should look it up.

jacklinks – Wow, Squatch, no wonder you are a superhero!

MoveOn – A return of $7 for every $1 invested? – I know I sound like a broken record, but Republicans simply DON'T CARE about good government or balancing the budget or getting any kind of return on government funds.  To them the budget is just a tool to PUNISH people they think deserve punishment – which is almost everybody.

NY Times – But according to Rick Scott, it is now illegal to say "sea level rise" in Florida.  How can they justify spending any money t o fix something they aren't allowed to talk about?

Cartoon – That deja vu you get when misogyny replaces racism, and "Obama" is replaced with "Hillary" in all these memes.  (Shoot, it's even misogynist to make "Hillary" the term of choice.  It's only children and other inferiors who get clled by first names instead of surnames.  Generations of black "boys" could tell you that.)

Wendy – Glad she made it – oversleeping is certainly understandable.

  5. Much relieved that Wendy is fine!

(Doe everyone else think of "Peter Pan" whenever TC mentions Wendy?)

    • Well, actually, no – I have now known and known of too many other people with the name (such as Wendy Davis).

      • Guess I live a sheltered life, because other than “Peter Pan” I don’t know any other Wendy’s.

Well, other than the hamburger place – and I wouldn’t count that.

        • I wouldn't count the burger shop either.  I really only know Wendy Davis from her Texas Senate filibuster, and then her run for governor- I do know she is still active in the party, thank God.  But I had a supervisor at a temp job named Wendy, and though I can't remember details now (they say the memory goes first, and I forget what's next), I'd met or known of enough before that that I was already over Peter-Pan-Wendy.  Now, Tinkerbell – that's different!  A friend of hubby's had a Westie named Tinkerbell, and I always had to bite my tongue.  Cute little thing.

        • I'll ask her.  I'd count the burger shop, because I'd rather associate her with food than pirates.

  6. Jacklinks: Good workouts!!

MO: I agree, college tuition is downright expensive for everyone now. It's hard for those who want to get a degree, and then end up with lifelong payments like that.

NYT: Wow, meanwhile, Congress say it's not so, while the coast lines are sinking. The Navy (I'm sure) has known about this for years, but the deniers say it's not real. ugh! *Chris, …Dallas, Texas!!!  felt the tremors from the OK earthquake, I say nay to the Frackers!!

Cartoon: Well, of course. Far be it for them to put the blame where it should lie now. Right??

Glad that Wendy showed up, and you are buffed like a cat should be. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

    • My daughter in law returned to get her degree after they had been married ten years. Now they have a sevenyear old daughter and he says he hopes his wife's student loans are paid off by the time Sarah Rose starts school.

  7. You go, Squatch!

Move-on-U-Tube: Before his ugly face graced the screen, I had already thought of St. Reagan as culpable!  His BS about "Welfare Queens," and the like, were a turning place for shifting wealth upwards.  He ruuined what was once the best MH treatment system in the country, as governor.

May I plead with you to read "Drift, The Unmooring of American Militry Power," by Rachel Maddow.  Much of the first part of the book is a blistering take-down of the S.O.B.!

NYT: We are now, officially in the Anthropocene Epoch of the Earth's history.  It is considered to have begun around/in 1950, and is ALL ABOUT the impact of humanity on the planet. THE BIGGEST HOAX IS JAMES INHOFE!

Cartoon: From the GOP: "Ain't nothing OUR fault, were just a bunch of good ol' boys, out on a lark."

    • I'm not, reading real well, but I just got the audible version for my Kindle.

Inhofe is not a hoax.  He a top candidate for political extinction anong with the rest of his ilk.

  8. Glad Wendy showed up.  Lynn will get you for the Sasquatch link. LOL>  I shared the cartoon on Facebook because I love it.

  9. Wendy not showing up and unreachable on her cell phone must have had you worried big time, TomCat. We've become very dependent on cell phones these days, maybe a bit too much. A lot of people don't have a landline these days and pay phones are something of the past unless you're in outback Australia, so there's nowhere to turn to when your phone is broken, stolen, left behind or simply out of power. If Wendy has a computer or tablet, show her how to set up Skype or something similar so she can get in touch with you when you're online, or send you an e-mail if that doesn't work.

Jacklinks: I knew Lynn did some teaching, but I assumed that was language education only. Now it turns out our Sasquatch's teaching how to workout too. Jeez, those Sasquatches are made of sturdy stuff; imagine doing all that with busted knees and feet. It must pay really well. πŸ˜‰

MO: Cuts to education in general and a tripling of student debts in one generation are the perfect example of wht this video is all about: "Racism as a political tool hurts everybody of every color and every background." It's about time the white middle class, or those that were middle class only a decade or so ago, realized that they are the victims of these right wing policies too, stop blaming those of different color or background and start voting for a party that has their interest at heart. In the immediate future (November) Blue would be their best option.

NYT: I'm sure a lot of money is spent on making sure that the mansions of the 1% remain high and dry along the imperiled coastlines of the world. The poor just have to fend for themselves. 'Global warming isn't happening so if they don't like being flooded they just have to move themselves elsewhere, right? If they just work hard enough they can all own a mansion on higher ground, right?
Could you expand your brilliant money making scheme to a trust fund for those poor, TomCat?

Cartoon: Then blame Hillary for both.

    • She had ways to get in touch, but her phone (which she has now found again) was the only place she had my number stored.  We fixed that.

  10. Puzzle — 3:42  It isn't edible Puddy Tat!

Jacklinks.com — Yup!  That is my physio exercise, one of the main ones.  I was however a little dismayed at the video . . . had I known you were going to publish the video, I would have shaved my legs first!

Youtube — Racists, racism and systemic racism are despicable and impoverish society as a whole, but the most vulnerable the most.

NY Times — "Lets market SCUBA gear with the GOP logo on the tanks and wetsuits captioned "Global Warming Is a Hoax!"" — I'd agree but I doubt those affected by the rising waters would see the humour.  The biggest hoax? . . . Republicans care about people.

Cartoon — Eight years worth!  Disgusting!

  11. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
