I screwed up.  I thought my grocery delivery this week was tomorrow.  Instead, it’s today, so I have to juggle my plans.  I’m getting Safeway.com, because I have an appointment on Wednesday that conflicts with my normal Store to Door delivery.  I’m in a rush.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:07 (average 4:54).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Godwin's Law officially suspended for the duration of the 2016 presidential cycle

0307trumpnazi

Godwin's Law – a common meme used by Republicans, other fascists, pseudo-intellectuals, and people with their heads in the sand or in smellier places, whenever anyone points out the verifiable commonalities between today's Republican Party and Germany's National Socialist Party, just before Hitler became dictator.

From NY Times: Peyton Manning, the Denver Broncos quarterback and Super Bowl 50 victor who amassed a passel of records and was among the N.F.L.’s most popular players in his 18 seasons in the league, will retire, hobbled by several career-threatening injuries.

Manning was to speak to the news media on Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern time at the Broncos’ facility south of Denver. ESPN was the first on Sunday to report the news of his retirement.

From TPM: An Idaho pastor was shot in the parking lot of his church on Sunday afternoon, one day after delivering a prayer at a campaign rally for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), NBC News reported.

Police told NBC that Rev. Tim Remington, the 55-year-old senior pastor of the Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene, was in critical but stable condition after suffering multiple gun shot wounds to the skull and back.

Couer d’Alene police identified the suspect as Kyle Andrew Odom, a white male in his mid-30s who they said was last seen driving a 2004 silver Honda Accord. In a press release posted to the department's Facebook page, police said they were working to obtain a warrant for Odom’s arrest and warned that he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

The associate pastor of Altar Church, John Padula, told NBC that surveillance video showed a man sitting in a silver car in the parking lot waiting for Remington to exit the building.

Police did not offer a motive for the shooting.

If I had to speculate, I'd say that Odom is a Republican who supports Hateful Hairball, but that's just an educated guess. If, God forbid, he's a lefty, I condemn his violence and ask him to defect to the Republican Party. There's no pace for such violence on the left.

  1. Don't Post my articles to C2NN.  It's broken.  I'll try again later.

  2. Is that pastor a Dominionist like Cruz?  I hope we hear what the investigation reveals as motive.

That picture at the rally is indeed chilling.

For those wanting a 1965 history refresher:

  3. 5:00  So – when someone says they "don't care two pins" – these are the actual pins?  I am awed by their famousness.

DKos – Sieg heil.  I suspect it's not just us but at least some of the GOP establishment that is starting to see the resemblance.  They are seeing it from the perspective of President von Hindenburg, who, with his cabinet (or whatever they called it), thought until too late that they could control Hitler.  Personally, as between Trum and Cruz, I think I prefer Trump – but – they are both scary.

NY Times – I know, but you don't want him getting any more hurt than he already has.  Keep remembering the SuperBowl.

TPM – Good Gad.  I cetainly hope you are right.  Certainly the odds go that way, although it might not be Trump, it might be some other Rethuglican.  Because if he is a lefty, or even can be presented as a lefty, this is one time the shooting, even by a white person, would NOT be chalked up to "mental illness" but would be directed straight at us.

Cartoon – I expect those troopers thought that what they were doing would be universally applauded.  Instead it brought some whites to the Civil Rights movement who had been indifferent.  Overreach.

  4. DK: Very, very scary indeed.

NYT: I wish Peyton well in his endeavors, and Good Luck to Brock Osweiler!

TPM: I hope that the police find Odom and bring him to justice, lots of hate going around..imo.

Cartoon: So tragic!! A stain in our history. "On March 7, 1965 around 600 people crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in an attempt to begin the Selma to Montgomery march. State troopers violently attacked the peaceful demonstrators in an attempt to stop the march for voting rights." *History     5 minute video.

Have a good rest of your day, Tom. Thanks!!

  5. Hairball couldn't of made a better comparison to Hitler than when he made people pledge to vote for him by having them raise their right arm!!! Unfrigginbelievable!!!

So ? ? ? to see The Great Peyton hang up his cleats!!! He will DEFINITELY BE MISSED!!! He is the best in the field!!! Broncos are STILL the best team there is!!!

Fitting that the shooter would be a teapublican!!! If it is one of ours, he needs to know that we don't need that kind of action to win the presidentcy this time! The RepukkklicanTs are in self-destruct mode now and are eating their own, daily!!! AND, if it is a dem, what the hell are ya doin? Tryin to kill a preacher?? That is just abhorrent and I hope you are caught SOON, dumbass!!!

  6. 2:50  Was there a point to this puzzle?

  7. Daily Kos:  Anyone who is paying attention should have all ready seen the correlation between Trump and Hitler.  Promises of nirvana, if you obey me!  Hell if you don't.

NY Times:  Even I know of the great Peyton.  Congrats to him, he deserves his retirement if that is what he chooses.

TPM: What ever his motives for the shooting were, this is a sad example of the level of violence we are seeing daily.

Cartoon:  This was and is a blot on our country.  I hope it will never happen again, but if Trump is elected, who knows?

  8. Puzzle — 2:50  Was there a point to this puzzle?

Daily Kos — Hitler would be so proud to know his legacy lives on . . . no less in one of the Allied countries that fought against him.

NY Times — I heard snippets of his retirement speech all afternoon.  He was in tears.  Quite a career.  Word has it that he bought 22 Papa John's restaurants . . . maybe he'll be throwing pizza dough instead of a football!

TPM — Whether Republican or Democrat, shooting someone is not political discourse.  No matter the motive, Odom has a screw loose.

Cartoon — As I recall, last year on the 50th anniversary, Obama, John Lewis and many others walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

  9. When you're all set to go with a certain schedule in your mind, having to reschedule is a hassle, isn't it. I hope things worked out in the end, TomCat.

DK: I don't think people in that hall understood the significance of their vow – they wouldn't have been there in the first place – nor did they know it would look like they were bringing the Nazi salute to Donald Drumpf. It was very apt though, as asking people to swear allegiance is the thing fascist dictators get off on, especially when they remind the dumb suckers that breaking their vow might have terrible consequences. Way to go, Führer Drumpf. Let's hope these "Sieg Heil"s are not indicative of his nomination and election battle.

TPM: Whether coming from the left or from the right, all violence is to be condemned. Having said that, considering how violent the US has become, how the right especially propagates violence and its champion, Drumpf has openly advocated hurting people that do not agree with him, it is tempting to speculate about the motive of the perpetrator. But at this point in time nothing more is known, Odom is still only a suspect and not been found yet and his motives are unknown. One can only hope that the shooting had nothing to do with Cruz or Drumpf, because if it does things might start to go ugly soon and it certainly doesn't bode well for the final leg of the presidential election.

Cartoon: As I've mentioned before, there have been a number of Bloody Sundays around the world, all bloody and devastating, all worth remembering. We all must work hard to prevent another Bloody Sunday, or any other day, to be added to the list.

  10. Thanks TC.

Daily Kos – yikes!!  I bet some of them were doing that salute on purpose – the bald guy at the back in the dark blue t-shirt looks like it from the photograph, and probably more.

TPM – the Far Right do love to encourage their supporters to perpetrate violence upon their opponents (of any and every type) – it wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last – most sadly.  As you say TC, heaven forfend it was someone on the left – but that would be unusual as statistics show.

  11. Thanks all.  Hugs!!  Exhausted!!
