RepublicansOnParade

Here is the eighty-second article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Texas Agricultural Commissioner, Sid Miller. He is so honored for his Republican approach to the season and other expressions of bigotry.

1217MillerTexas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller may be taking the so-called “war on Christmas” a little too literally.

In a Facebook post [Republican delinked] on Wednesday, the Republican official said that he would “slap” anyone who wished him “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.”

“If one more person says Happy Holidays to me I just might slap them. Either tell me Merry Christmas or just don’t say anything,” Miller wrote.

The message included a photo of a cowboy riding a bull in front of a sign that read: “We Will Never Take Christ Out Of Christmas.”

The post had been liked over 7,000 times by Thursday morning.

However, hundreds of people responded to Miller’s post by wishing him Happy Holidays, including a GIF from the Texas Democratic Party.

The Houston Chronicle pointed out that Miller had a history of posting controversial remarks on Facebook. In one post, he called for nuking the “Muslim world.” In another post, he compared Syrian refugees to “rattlesnakes.”… [emphasis added]

It’s hard to get more Republican than this.  In advance, I wish you a Merry Christmas, or whatever holiday greeting suits you.  I wish all Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians (the opposite of authentic Christians), like this bigot, Happy Holidays!

  1. Yep, another bigoted "Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian".

  2. OK, here's a laugh for you.  I live in Colorado Springs, one of the great Republican strongholds, dominated be "evangelical Christians" (actually mostly Christianists and Dominionists), including the airwaves.  In particular, there is an FM radio station called Q102 which is pretty aggressively "Christian."  I was grocery shopping last week, and as I left the store, I noticed someone was playing Q102 fairly loud – I forget what the announcer was saying, but it was between songs.  But as soon as the station went to music, this was the music it went to:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz7FYPQp7v0   Seriously.

    Republicans.  Ignoring consistency since 1980.

  3. as least he isn't threatening to shoot first

  4. Another fine specimen of the angry old white men joins the Parade. I don't think you can expect much more from a man who wants to nuke the Muslim world and comparing Syrian refugees to rattlesnakes than abusing Christmas to get one over on anyone not of his preferred faith. For a foreigner it al seems so silly because we also say Happy Holidays which is just short for Merry Christmas AND a happy New Year, as New Year's day is a holiday too. We've been saying that far longer than we've begun to take notice of possible sensitivities of other religions, as I suspect Americans did too. People who want to avoid any conflict just wish each other Happy New Year. The funny thing is that most people here, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Hindus and Buddhists have all started to celebrate those days in their own way, mostly without a religious connotation. Just a nice few days with family and friends. But this Republicans Scrooge would still call that a war on Christmas and Christianity.

  5. Well, this is so typical of these old, mean, nasty clown Texas cowboys to want to slap somebody for saying, "Happy Holidays" (to one and all, btw). Shame that beautiful Longhorn can't throw him off.

  6. Boy, you just can’t miss the power of Jesus’ love and forgiveness oozing out of this guy, now can you?

    </snark>

Anyone know how to say, “Happy Holidays!” in Aramaic?

That would REALLY piss him off, I bet.

  7. For the most part, anyone who would call an entire class of people "rattlesnakes" is most probably just simply one of those kinds of reptiles.

  8. TC, it must be a very tiring job, to decide which, out of the huge variety of idiocy these people put out, to feature in the thread.   It's a nasty job, and I'm glad you are up to it!

  9. OK, let's think this through. Someone wishes this person "happy holidays." In response, he slaps them. The person who wished him "happy holidays" happens to be a "good guy with a gun" who responds to this physical assault by taking the appropriate ( the NRA & fellow travelers have repeatedly told him what is right and proper and expected in a situation like this) action to respond to a perceived physical threat. He (or she or it) draws the weapon and fires.

OK, that's the scenario, you take it from here.

  10. TC, this is typical of what I have been hearing from right wing, evangelicals left and right.  They are so convinced there is a war on Christmas.

  11. WOW!!! I am so GLAD that my family ONLY lived there for a couple of years!!

He is the epitome of TEXASS!!!

  12. Is he looking to be investigated for irregularities of his office like so many other TX officials these days?  Seems he might be feeling left out of that kind of media coverage.
