Luke 18:16 (KJV)

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Please meet 5 y/o Sophia Cruz from La Señora Reina de Los Angeles Church in Los Angeles.  Sophie was blessed to have a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with Pope Francis yesterday – and carried a letter to him that will resonate with all of us.

[NOTE: Keep Kleenex Handy Alert …]

Although she says she doesn’t remember exactly what she wrote, she does know it made her feel “Happy”.

And no matter who wrote the message, it is assuredly worth sharing:

"Quiero contarte que mi corazon esta triste por el odio y la discriminacion haicia los immigrantes de este pais."

"I want to tell you that my heart is sad about the discrimination of the immigrants in this country."

"[Immigrants] are good people, they work hard in the fields…like my dad, who I barely get to see.  I ask that they stop deporting our parents because we need them to grow and be happy."

"I have hope that this pain will come to peace."

She also drew a picture for Pope Francis with the caption, "My friends and I love each other and the color of our skin is not important."

What a moment for Sophie … and what a pope!

  1. A really plucky little girl and an awesome Pope… with a heartfelt message…

  2. "Of such is the kingdom of God."  Yes.  Posted to Care2 at http://www.care2.com/news/member/101612212/3912199

  3. Such a beautiful moment and beautiful child! Best Pope EVER! And I'm certainly not Catholic. And not religious!

  4. How absolutely wonderful. Hope her note resonates with polititans. This little girl and her letter will be remembered for a lifetime!

Thank you, Nameless and Joanne for getting this out here.

  5. What Vivian said!!

  6. Where's my hanky…a beautiful story exemplifying my understanding of the gospel–thanks Nameless

  7. Thank goodness for long sleeves (my cats destroyed the kleenex box and contents!)!!  What a great moment, one I am sure she will never forget.

I am not Roman Catholic.  But this pope, Pope Francis, seems to have his head screwed on fairly straight.  As the young girl tries to approach the motorcade, she is turned away.  But the Pope beckons her to come forward. The motorcade stops and a security officer lifts her up and she gives the Pope a big hug, along with her letter.

Now that is LIVING the Gospels.  I don't agree with the Pope on everything, and I don't expect to.  But this is faith in action and the right wing pseudo Christians of the US should pay attention . . . REALLY PAY ATTENTION!!!

  8. What a wonderful letter little Sophia Cruz gave to Pope Francis – God bless her.  Pope Francis is undoubtedly the best Pope for decades!

  9. I so enjoyed his unorthodox motorcade and his speech in Congress yesterday. The service at the World Trade Center Memorial was striking too.

  10. thanks

  11. This is the first Jesuit Pope.  Their entire philosophy is to be for and of the people.  For anyone to truly live their faith is a rare and beautiful thing, and Papa Francisco is a shining example.

    • Thanks for helping us all better understand what the differences are within the Catholic Church Beth–Jesuits are indeed different from Benedictine and others.

  12. Thanks for sharing this video.   This little girl embodies the spirit of what used to be the American spirit.

  13. You can definitely see your skills in the work you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers like you who are not afraid to say how they believe. Always go after your heart.
