I’m writing for tomorrow, day 3.  I don’t know why but for the last 24 hours I’ve been unable to sleep.  After going out and getting my winter coat, I spent most of the afternoon lying in bed, feeling exhausted and wide awake.  I’ve had zero tike for research.  Back to bed.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:22 (average 5:27).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

  1. this picture is so cute!

Peppermint, our first but younger cat, would be saying "come and cuddle".  However, Lucy, newer/older, be careful…could mean come cuddle or could mean come and I'll attack……..

….since this is a political blog I'd like to see more Lucy in the Dems….

  2. It is called “depression”…

  3. 5:14 average unchanged.  Wow, you are zonked, TC.  Even though cats don't really dig sugar that  much.  (My Mom did have one who went bonkers for Jello pudding pops, only the banana flavor, and only until they "improved" the recipe.  I'm sure it was bad for him, but it was amusing to see him push his ears back as far as he could to get away from the cold and keep licking anyway.  Poster child for addiction LOL.)

I don't think 24 hours is enough to diagnose depression, although of course it's possible.  It could be, and I hope it is, just part of a natural stage of grief.  Time will tell.  DO get as much rest as you can.

    • Incidentally, you all may already know this, but People for the American Way is having a member call on Monday 11/10 on "Lame Duck Session Opportunities," specifically regarding judidial vacancies.  I can't do these calles – telephones trigger my PTSD – but if anyone didn't get an invitation and is interested,  you are welcome to my RSVP link:  http://site.pfaw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=lameduck_rsvp&autologin=true

It has my information but it's changeable.

    • JD, I can almost guarantee you that clinical depression can not be diagnosed on a one day turn around.  It takes a minimum of 30 days, unless there are threats of suicide.  Even then, a person would likely be hospitalised and watched, and be under psychiatric care.

I say this as someone who has major clinical depression and has had for years.  Fortunately, medication has helped me.  My dosage was doubled last December when I had another major episode (disappeared from the site for more than a month).

I agree with you when you say "It could be, and I hope it is, just part of a natural stage of grief. ", Midterms like those just past are enough to put a person into a funk, and someone who has worked so hard to educate on the progressive side would be grieving the losses.

      • Thanks Lynn.  I also have been on meds for depression for years.  So it puts me on edge when people say depression when they mean grief or sadness.  I appreciate the backup.

  4. Please make sure you are getting plenty of Vit D3 and Vit K2 (this combination is very good for keeping away chest infections and lots of other nasties and helps one avoid the winter blues, and is good for the circulatory system) – also make sure you have the occasional Vit A to help the first two work; also a nice amount of Magnesium, Vit C, Zinc, Selenium, Manganese, and a good Vit B complex.  We are complicated creatures and the modern diet can be lacking in all sorts of things and a lack of any of these things (and others) can make us run down and exhausted – if you can possible afford it please get yourself a few of these as even the most determined person has a body that needs the right items of fuel to keep going, and without them it is an even more uphill struggle!  (mercola.com and other places on the net have a lot of good info to do research).

Love your photo TC – have a good rest – prayers going up for you!

  5. Have you ever looked up adrenal exhaustion, TC?  The majority of doctors don't believe in it, they tend to believe only in the diseases caused by extremes of too much or too little – which those of us who suffer with adrenal exhaustion think is rather like mathematicians acknowledging that the numbers zero and one hundred exist, but nothing in between.  I can however confirm that adrenal exhaustion can cause a lot of exhaustion but also an inability to sleep – there are clinical signs, and Dr James Wilson's website is a good one to look at if you so choose – http://www.adrenalfatigue.org/  – there are of course others.

  6. 3:26 My sweet tooth took over my hands.

  7. Perhaps some good news will help the sleep issue–as of a little while ago, 9 of the 14 House races that were too close to call on election night have been called DEM–two of them CA formerly red discticts (and one where the loser had those allegations of men's room pecadillos).

  8. Well, there was ONE good thing that happened last Tuesday … I got Mom safely and completely moved in to her new Assisted Living apartment!

The unpacking is another story – but got enough done to make it functional.

AND I got the Auction folks to pack up the rest of her belongings on Thursday and haul them to the Auction place on Friday.  I'll be heading back up this coming weekend for the Auction on Sunday, 11/16/14.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL … AND IT'S NOT a TRAIN!

The Bonus is Mom seems very happy in her new apartment (at least so far).

    • That's great Nameless!  Transitions are not always easy, especially with our elderly parents.  I am very pleased that she appears to be adjusting well . . . probably has a lot to do with her making the decision and participating in the hunt for a place.

      Namaste

    • Congratulations on helping her make the move.  I wish my own Mother would do the same, not likely, though.

    • Congrats Nameless, and well done!!

  9. TC, I have been so exhausted a few times that I could not sleep, and I would have to go to work with zero sleep.  This could be what is causing your sleeplessness.  You are a very busy man, with this blog and all the work you do to give us pertinent info, and then your work at the prison, I don't know how you find time to do it all.  Maybe it is time to take a few days to just rest.  Your body will love you for it.

  10. Thanks all.  Rather than depression, as some thought, the problem turned out to be a mix between tiredness and Republicitis.  Sleep fixed the former, and thanks to Dulcolax, I'm no longer full of crap. 🙂
