I’m writing for tomorrow, day 144.  I’m still quite tired after my prison trip and busy day yesterday, so I’m relaxing today and cooking a cross rib roast, before the heat sets in.  I thought I had PT tomorrow, but I was mistaken.  It’s not until next week. 🙂

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:37 (average 6:26).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Crooks and Liars: Shameless Sean is at it again. In these days of stress before the November midterms, he’s ramped up the hate and the tea party rhetoric to a dull roar. But you know what you can’t hear over the din? Sean’s voice telling viewers that he has a business relationship with folks he’s interviewing on his television show.

You may recall that Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing radio hosts (like Mark Levin) are beneficiaries of wingnut welfare. Organizations like FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity, and the Tea Party Patriots prop up Hannity et al in order to keep the messaging machine fed with plenty of fresh hate.

So be it. The problem is, you don’t get to receive wingnut welfare on the radio side and then interview your benefactor on the cable side without some disclosure of the business relationship, which Hannity ‘forgot’ to do, thereby making (even bigger) liars of Fox News…

Barf Bag Alert!!!

Making bigger liars of Faux Noise is like making infinity further away. This is Republican Propaganda at it’s worth, paid for by the 0.1%

From AlterNet: A Republican state senator in Georgia sparked a dispute with a pastor in his district after complaining about early voting being implemented in a predominantly African-American neighborhood,  the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“I would prefer more educated voters than a greater increase in the number of voters,” state Sen. Fran Millar (R) wrote  on his Facebook page. [GOPig delinked] “If you don’t believe this is an efort [sic] to maximize Democratic votes pure and simple, then you are not a realist. This is a partisan stunt and I hope it can be stopped.”

The exact opposite is true. This Republican wants to make it more difficult for informed voters to get to the polls, because they will vote against his party. Disenfranchising voters is the partisan stunt!  Get out the vote!!

From Right Wing Watch: One of the very first posts we ever wrote about the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer highlighted a column he wrote calling for Muslims to be banned from serving in the military. That was nearly five years ago and now Fischer is finally getting around to calling for atheists to be banned from serving in the U.S. armed forces as well.

Responding to a situation [pseudo-Christian delinked] in which an airman was denied his request to re-enlist in the Air Force because he refuses to take an oath containing the phrase "so help me God," Fischer asserts [pseudo-Christian delinked] that atheists should be prohibited from serving in all braches of the military because "there is no place in the United States military for those who do not believe in the Creator who is the source of every single one of our fundamental human and civil rights"…

If only Christians get to serve in the military, then Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians need not apply.

  1. 3:43 ~ Did I find the right key?

  2. Crooks & Liars ~ Yes. They are crooks and liars. They are shameess too. I heard this same rhetoric on my back deck the other night. I must admit that they have all their talking points down verbatim. Don't watch FAUX! You get brain washed. "All the lies that news casters won't air."

Alternet ~ He is a racist no matter how much he tries to deny it. If they had opened early registration in a predominatelly white neighborhood, I don't think he would have said a thing. What he fails to understand is that anyone can register there.

Right Wing Watch ~ Isn't that oath against the First Amendment to the Constitution?

Cartoon ~ The Hudson River and valley must have been really beautiful then.

  3. AlterNet – the utter joy of seeing a nasty Repuglicon calling (falsely) for more educated voters and not being able to spell – JOY!!!

  4. 6:58  I knew it would be tough when I looked at the times, and it was.  Do people still usr keys like those?  I guess they must, but it seems odd.

Crooks and Liars – What?  Just another day at Fox.  It's nice of Crooks and Liars to work up some indignation, but it will only reach those who are already indignant.  Does anyone really believe Fox watchers know there is such a thing as journalistic integrity, or have the faintest idea of what it would entail?

Alternet – I knew about this obviously racist rant, but I missed the part about the misspelling.  Fran Millar.  Is he another boy named Sue macho?  Look, Millar, true franchise means we all have to put up with people voting who may have less education than would be ideal.  I have to put up with you.  Get over it.

Right Wing Watch – It certainly is too bad that deprogramming doesn't work, because if ever anyone was crying out for it, it's Bryan Fischer.  I'll bet the nicest people he knows are really atheists, and he's not aware of it because they won't tell him.  Yes, the oath is unConstitutional, and there is no legal requirement for it.  The Army and Navy don't require it.  The Air Force used not to require it.  On Oct 30, 2013, they started making it mandatory.  The Pentagon says it is settled and the Air Force is wrong.  There is a lawsuit, by the way.

Cartoon – More imperialism.  No offense intended to his country of origin.  We claim him.

    • Yes, I know I already posted, but this email from Sal pace, a candidate for County Commissioner in Pueblo County, CO, touched me so deeply I had to share.  We aren't all wingnuts:

"On Wednesday I walked into the debate with my opponent feeling positive and hopeful for a constructive discussion on issues that affect Pueblo County. Instead what I witnessed was one of the most disappointing moments in my career- a nominee from a major political party casting doubt on the facts surrounding a national tragedy- the murder of 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.   His comments have been called out by media across the country.

"My opponent said, “There’s still questions about whether (the Sandy Hook Massacre) really happened, Sal.” He added that pictures of one parent of a deceased child “was caught smiling and joking and all of a sudden had tears in his eyes. Why?”

"I just got off the phone with my cousin Richie, who's a firefighter from Newtown, Connecticut.  He said that he'd like to invite Dr. Ready to Newtown to see the graves of the children firsthand.  Richie would know, he was one of firefighters who participated in a ritual firfighter funeral for seven year old boy who dreamed of growing up to be a firefighter.

"The tragedy was especially brutal because of the young, innocent lives taken. It’s a tragedy that left grieving parents and grandparents behind to contemplate it for the rest of their lives. As a father of three young children, I can’t begin to imaging how such a tragedy would impact my family. Yet my opponent, Dr. Tom Ready, wants to have an “open discussion” on whether or not the incident actually occurred.

"My opponent's comments and feelings on the matter are reprehensible, disgusting, and extremely sad.

"Before Wednesday’s debate, I had planned on asking you today for a financial contribution to my campaign. I’m grateful for all the support you’ve given and hope you’ll continue to do so. Today, however, in light of my opponent’s espousal of a warped conspiracy theory, I’m asking that you donate any amount to the Newtown Memorial Fund.   (Note: Emphasis mine)

"The Newtown Memorial Fund is a non-political organization whose mission includes providing immediate needs of the families of the 26 victims, those who were wounded, and the 12 children who were first-hand witnesses of the tragedy. The Newtown Memorial Fund is also charged with the construction and maintenance of a physical memorial for those that tragically died on December 14th, 2012.

"Please click here* to make a donation of any amount to the Newtown Memorial fund to help heal the wounds Dr. Ready has opened.  *http://newtownmemorialfund.org/

      "Thank you,

      "Sal Pace

  5. Cartoon: How lucky can a guy get to travel on a beautiful river with the same name as his… lol.

  6. Puzzle — 3:55  Patty changed the locks and I couldn't find the right key!

Crooks and Liars — What a bunch of androgynous mouthpieces spewing the same swill!  A wonder they don't get hoof and mouth disease or a significant case of Montezuma's Revenge.

Oh, JD, using Fox and journalistic integrity in the same sentence is truly an oxymoron, heavy on the moron!

Alternet — Either Millar is a racist, or he is . . . never mind, he's a racist!  Dump him on his ass at the ballot box.

Right Wing Watch — "…now Fischer is finally getting around to calling for atheists to be banned from serving in the U.S. armed forces as well."

What part of the 1st amendment does this pseudo Christian hate patriot not understand?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Seems quite clear to me whether atheist, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, Hindu or Christian, or other for that matter.  I'd like to see Fischer take the oath and then go to Iraq and fight ISIL.  I wonder how long he would last?

Cartoon — The Hudson Valley in Henry Hudson's time was beautiful but old Henry was the beginning of the end of that valley.  I wonder how the First Nations peoples felt about Henry plying the river.

  7. Glad you have another week before the PT to rest. Hope the roast was good.

Croooks and Liars:  Shameless Sean indeed.  He should be forced to acknowledge publicly all his benefactors that he is giving free airtime. I went to my Mom's early this morning.  Her caretaker had Fox news on the tv, that stopped pretty soon. Mom has mild dementia, but she thanked me when I got rid of "those Republicans"/  Bless her heart, the apple didn't fall far from the tree, thankfully.

Alternet:  The only way we can get rid of idiots like Millar is to get out the vote.  So glad he spells his last name with an a instead of an e as my family does. Would not want to be connected to him.

Right Wing Watch:  Have none of these idiots ever read the Constitution?  Your religion, or lack of, is your right.  I had to fill out pre admission forms for a minor test at our local hospital today, and it asked my religion. I hesitated before completing it, because that is really none of their business.

You are right, TC, the pseudo Christians who want to control everyone else need not apply.

  8. Thal all.  I'm pooping out fast!
