Republicans Get Recognition

I’ve certainly had no shortage of writing about one Republicans that the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, has praised and interviewed completely, Cliven Bundy.  He has found his way back into the news in an indirect sort of way.  According to a study of law enforcement professionals, Sovereign citizens are the greatest terrorist threat Americans face.

0806SovCitIn a new study conducted by researchers tasked with  studying of the root causes and consequences of terrorism in the U.S. and abroad, the sovereign citizen movement was perceived to be the gravest terrorist threat, rivaling Islamist extremists and militia/patriot groups.

According to National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism —better known as START— sovereign citizens were the top concern of law enforcement, even as a belief that some domestic groups including the KKK, Christian Identity, and neo-Nazis represent less of an actual terrorist threat when compared to a previous study.

The report, complied  by START researchers David Carter, Steven Chermak, Jeremy Carter and Jack Drew,  is drawn from surveys with  more than 364 officers representing 175 state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies. Those surveys  asked respondents to to gauge their perception on the threat of terrorism, the nature of information-sharing, and their belief as to whether their agencies are prepared to deal with terrorist attacks… [emphasis added]

Ed Schultz covered this story in two segments. In the first he discussed the upshot and blowback of Republican hero, Cliven Bundy, including how a Bundy follower, Jared Miller, murdered three people.

In the second Ed interviews SPLC expert Ryan Lenz and Nevada journalist John Ralston.

US Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) called these people patriots, so any attempt to deny the connection between them and the Republican Party is a lie.

I have been saying for years that Al Dubya is a greater threat to America than Al Qaeda ever was.  I was right.

  1. I believe that Homeland Security and the FBI also consider these groups to be a greater threat than Al Queda and others like them.

  2. Lona Goudswaard (Care2) asks a good question – if sovereign citizens are so dangerous, why are they not on our radar?  "Is that because there's such a large blind spot in the vision of these agencies or are they willfully ignored?"  I think it's more of a blind spot, but I think it's at least partly because, being sovereign, they don't do groups well.  And it's much easier to track, say, a KKK chapter than the same number of separate individuals.  Unless one puts in effect the kind of dragnet spying that none of us wants.  Even then, some show up without much warning of any kind.

I do, however, wish that someone would make sure that law enforcement nationwide gets the memo that the threat is from the right and the white, not from the left and the rainbow.  Arrest records, stop and frisk, chokeholds, etc. still do not reflect this, let alone prison population which just by its nature would take much longer to show the correction.

    • I think they are on the radar of security professionals.  They are not on the lips of security professionals, because the Republican Party backs these hate groups And Republican billionaires fund them.  Every time a security professional expresses their concern, Republicans throw a hissy fit and cut the organization's funding.

  4. Oops!  That was my little girl's assessment of the situation!  I don't think she likes sovereign citizens.

I would have thought that militia/patriot groups would be #2, and assuming the KKK is not classified in with them, the KKK and other white supremacists groups in #3 position.

I can see why they may have been "over looked" since they could be anybody and nobody . . . sort of like looking for a snowflake in an all white room.  They are likely to look like Libertarians (as I underestand them) generally and go unnoticed until something sets them off.  Then look out.  How much was known about Cliven Bundy before the fracas.  Certainly the BLM knew of him because they had been going up against him, but did the general public know about him?

With Islamist extremists, if the US had stayed out of some battles, like Iraq, maybe the extremists would not have been a problem.  Also some American corporations don't help matters either in their quest for profits..

  5. Nothing scares me worse than a person who says God has told him or her to do something.  They are always delusional, power hungry people who want every one else to believe they are superior in some way.  I think Bundy should have been arrested from the get go, and those who followed him and broke the law should have been, too.  We may still have another ruby ridge because these people are nuts.

  6. Thanks all.  Overslept!
