I’m writing for tomorrow, and it has been a difficult day.  I hate to give you Midwesterners and Easterners bad news, but polar weather is on the way.  I know, because it froze my butt, when I went to the doctors, and it’s gong to be frigid here for the rest of the week.  Temperature extremes set off my COPD.  The doctor had to do extra digging in my foot, but the pain was no worse than walking on it already was, and when it heals, it won’t hurt for a while.  So it was already a bad air day, but right after I returned there was another fire in the building.  Someone must have thrown a lit cigarette down the garbage chute.  I was never in any danger, as firefighters responded in less than five minutes.  They did not even need to evacuate me, but there was just enough smoke in the hallway, where I waited by the stairs, that it set off my COPD even worse.  Therefore, I’m afraid I don’t even have Short Takes for you today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:00 (average 4:03).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

  1. 2:42 I hurried because I couldn't wait to relax by the lake.

  2. Cartoon ~ Too bad he only spent 5 years in jail because he died in 2001. And, he was free for 30 years after killing Medgar Evers.

  3. 4:51  "Innsbruck ich muß dich lassen /  ich far dohin mein strassen /  in fremde landt dohin / mein freud ist mir genomen /  die ich nit weiß bekummen /  wo ich im elend bin."

Please rest and breathe extra oxygen or whatever it takes.  Nothing is happening anyway except that the Senate passed the House's Farm Bill which not only screws the poor, but screws the Democratic poor tighter than the Republican poor.  And no one is talking about that except Alan Grayson.

Cartoon – On the one hand, justice delayed is justice denied.  On the other hand better late than never.  I'd rather he spent 5 years in prison (I think it must have been prison, not jail, right?) than none at all.

  4. Hope you start feeling well soon.  If it makes you feel any better, here in the KCMO Metro we got 10+" of snow and single digit real temp with wind chills in the MINUS 20-30 range.  (At least it's sunny now, so it's quite pretty – but WAY too fricking cold!)

Going to fire up the snowblower (I opted for the convenient electric start) this afternoon to dig out, after a nice bowl of homemade split pea soup and a nap.

  5. Good grief TC, I thought you'd have a much more peaceful time in your new place – now you have idiots who aren't safe with cigarettes (or possibly to cross the road unaided) destroying your peace and upsetting your poor lungs!  Poor TC –  I hope your feet and lungs get better soon!

  6. Time 3:28 – thought that was a bit hard.

Are there fire extinguishers (and alarms) in your apartment or in the building?  I hope so, and you might want to check the date on the one you have.

I would repeat what Joanne said – they got him.  He never thought he would serve a day in jail.

Feel better, and stay warm – Take care of yourself TC, all good wishes sent your way.

  7. 4:35 – This weather has set off problems with my health in conjunction with old age… 😥

  8. Just take care of yourself for a few days, stay home, rest, eat good food.   We will wait for you.

  9. Thanks everyone.  The fire alarm system here is super sensitive.  There are multiple fire extringuishers on every floor.  Staff checks them weekly.  Thed spot where I wait to be evacuated id right under one.  I have checked all six on my floor and all were good.  In addition, I have my own fire extinguisher in my apartment.   I think the timing was a fluke, smf the building does an excellent job seeing we are safeguarded.

  10. Sounds like a good building where they actually look after the people – it's just been a weird and wicked year full of cold, snow and lots of crap like fires and Republicans.  We may have to dance naked under a full moon to turn things around (snort)….. sending be-well's, Tom!

  11. Fires and Republicans – I love that.  Or rather, I hate it, but I love the phrase.  Snerk.  It had better warm up some before we consider dancing sky-clad under the full moon, though.

  12. Arielle, I trusew we shall get pics? 😉
