I’m writing for tomorrow, day 102.  It’s chilly enough that I have to wear long sleeves, and I’m loving it.  Reasonably cool weather is forecast through the rest of the month.  Dang!!  I survived summer!!  Tonight I shall be meditating on the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb worship between my Broncos and the Raiders.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:29 (average 5:53).  No birdie lunch for TC!! :-(  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In a poll taken over the weekend about the looming debt-ceiling crisis and government shutdown, most Americans said that they were totally excited about the new iPhone 5s.

When asked about the prospect of a debt-ceiling logjam leading to a downgrade of the U.S. economy, seventy-two per cent of those surveyed said that the new iPhone looks like the most awesome iPhone yet.

Questioned about the disastrous impact of the U.S. government defaulting on the nation’s debt, sixty-five per cent agreed with the statement, “I can’t believe I waited on line all Friday for the 5s and they told me they’re sold out until October.”…

Sadly, Andy has given us a snapshot of the soul of the American electorate.

From PR Watch: A former Corrections Corporation of America “senior director of business development” and lobbyist is planning to run for the office of Arizona’s top law enforcement officer, Attorney General.

On September 3, Arizona Department of Gaming Director Mark Brnovich sent a letter to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, declaring his intention to resign his post, effective September 20. Although Brnovich has yet to file any formal campaign/committee registration documents with the Office of the Arizona Secretary of State Division of Elections, the Capitol Times reported on September 4, that Brnovich had reserved the website address, "mark4ag.com," on August 23…

The Theocratic Totalitarian Plutocracy of Brewerstan is already in bed with CCA. If they make a CCA man Attorney General, guilt or innocence will no longer factor in to whether an individual is charged with a crime. The bottom line will be CCA’s bottom line. I know several prisoners, who have been in CCA prisons. To a man they tell the same story: warehousing without adequate food, medical care, exercise, and programming to assist rehabilitation.

From Washington Post: Another poll shows Americans are strongly opposed to potentially shutting down the government if Congress doesn’t defund Obamacare.

The CNBC poll shows 59 percent oppose the idea, compared to 19 percent who would shut down government before funding President Obama’s signature health care law…

Nevertheless, Republicans keep claiming that their tactic is the will of the American people. In fact, it is anti-American sedition!

  1. 3:38 Gull(p) I always gag on the feathers. Will Lynn stomp on these birds or Jerry crunch their hollow bones?

  2. New Yorker ~ Sad, but true. Most Americans were too busy watching the Emmys and the new Fall TV line-up to pay attention to the tragedy that is Washington, D.C politics.

PR Watch ~ The Wicked Witch of the West is laughing in pure glee!  Politics does indeed breed strange bedfellows.

Washington Post & CNBC Poll ~ This seems to be the general consensus of the US populace. Too bad the Media doesn't tell the truth anymore. That is unless they watch FAUX NOISE or listen to LimBarf.

Cartoon ~ You were right! I do love today's cartoon.

  3. OUCH!!  Andy Borowitz has tapped into the zeitgeist, hasn't he – and drawn blood with his pen!

Re PR Watch – its that old revolving door again isn't it that has ruined so many govt agencies with people transferring from jobs there to private industry and back again!

I do so agree TC!  (And God protect the present Pope – who actually seems to have read and understood the Gospels!).

  4. Puzzle — 3:40  Didn't want to spoil your fun so I backed off.  Not to mention that I didn't want to get "gull goo" on me when you mashed them.  They are green on the inside!  We dissected a dead gull at camp when I was about 8.  I use the pins of the feathers os floss, the same as mouse tails! That way I don't gag.

The New Yorker — Boy, do AB and the i5 marketers have the populace pegged right.  Consumerism run rampant!  And when that consumerism is impacted by their ill informed political choices and lack of attention, the people will bitch and then forget, yet again.

PR Watch — Now isn't that just a disaster in the making!  Talk about your gross conflicts of interest and with the political nut jobs in Brewerstan, you know he won't get called out on it.

Washington Post — If Sen Lee is correct in his assessment below, then why all the parlour tricks and rhetoric against funding Obamacare?  All that does is serve to make global markets jittery without cause.  Not that the Republicanus/Teabaggers give a rat's ass about that or what the majority of the people want. For them, it is all about "blacktracking".

"No. We all know that the government is going to be funded. The questions is whether it will be funded with Obamacare or without," [Sen Mike] Lee [R-Utah] said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday.

Cartoon — Amen!!!!!  Oh, that elephant appears to be wearing Scalia's glasses.  I wonder how his executive search for a new Pope is going?  Has Scalia skipped to the short list with his name the only one on the list yet?

  5. RepubliKKKans have a long and ignominious history of conflating food stamps with racism.

It at least goes back to St. Ronnie Raygun who shared his anger with shoppers who saw a "strapping young buck" buy steaks using food stamps.  And now we have Rand Paul equating food stamps with slavery.

  6. I think think it's nice there's a CHRISTian Pope for the RepubliCONs to hate!:) The Media is finally admitting RepubliCONs are anti-American will!;)

  7. 8:04

To a man they tell the same story: warehousing without adequate food, medical care, exercise, and programming to assist rehabilitation.

I'm glad I don't live in Arizona wait, I live in Florida with Tea-Bag Governor Rick Scott who would do the same….

  8. I'm not Catholic (a born, baptized & confirmed Lutheran – but now a Deist) – but I'm really starting to LIKE this Pope!

    • I'm closer to Deist than Theist, and ditto liking this Pope.  I disagree with his personal belief on the subject, but at least he isn't leading with hate.

  9. Andy is soo right.  The new Iphone and Miley Cyrus are all the public are really watching, except of course for the devotees of faux news.

Adding Arizona to another state I don't want to live.

The Republicans don't give a rat's rear end what the American public want. They vote the way their contributors tell them.

I am not Catholic, either, but really like this Pope.
