I have a second article today, but I’m still feeling pretty weak.  As time goes on, this should get better.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:51 (average 4:53).  To do it, click here. How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Media Matters: On May 10, ABC News reported what it characterized as a major "exclusive" on the consulate attacks in Benghazi, Libya.  Claiming to have "obtained" key administration e-mails, the report appeared to illustrate White House and State Department aides editing out references to terrorism in talking points for political reasons.

The story seemed to vindicate conservatives, who for months had been screaming about a cover-up.  But when the e-mails in question were released to the public, they differed substantially from those ABC News "exclusively unearthed" in the scoop.  Soon after, the truth came out:  the reporter, ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, was quoting not the actual e-mails, but rather summaries of the e-mails provided by a Republican source.  Despite repeated on-air claims, ABC News had never "obtained" the e-mails, and the damning "quotes" that triggered the "exclusive" turned out to be misleading.

To Tell ABC to correct their disinformation, sign this letter.

From Daily Kos: I’m not sure how he managed to get past the network’s thought police, but Bob Dole went on Fox News Sunday and said this about the party that nominated him for president in 1996:

“I think they ought to put a sign on the national committee doors that says ‘closed for repairs’ until New Year’s Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas,” Dole said when asked about the state of today’s Republicans.

Dole also said he doubted he could make it in today’s party.

“I doubt it,” Dole said. “Reagan couldn’t have made it. Certainly Nixon could not have made it because he had ideas. We might have made it, but I doubt it.”

Okay, first, the obvious point: Can you imagine a former Democratic presidential nominee saying that Franklin Delano Roosevelt couldn’t make it in today’s Democratic Party?

I found the video:

It is also amazing that it was put on the air by the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise.

From MSNBC: Chris Hayes covered the D.C. Circuit.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I touched on this yesterday. Hayes and his panel did an excellent job fleshing it out. To Republicans, ‘appointed by Obama’ constitutes an exceptional circumstance. Nuke the filibastards!

  1. TomCat – so sorry you are still so poorly – please could you take it a little more easily?  We need you for the long haul and you have had such a terrible six months and more – you need rest!

Having said that the Bob Dole tape is priceless!  How did they get that past Faux News?  An angel must have been involved in that  I think!

Rachel Maddow is as always marvelous – as for the mythical emails 'found' by ABC – we should all email them and tell them to resign for lying!  They could then take up careers as novelists – they have already done the groundwork and practiced after all!

  2. 4:00 Your tractor beat mine! I couldn't get out of first gear today.

  3. Media Matters ~ Truth be damned! We don't need no stinking facts. Signed the letter, definitely!

Daily Kos ~  Can't you see Reince Priebus runnin around like a chicken without a head now? I never would have thought Bob Dole would say that. But, the party is an embarrassment to most of its members.

MSNBC ~ Maybe Pres. Obama's strategy will work. I hope.

    Cartoon ~ An exceptional anniversary.

  4. ABC’s Jonathan Karl said that he had seen the actual emails and did NOT represent that they were “summaries” – but was quoting from them firsthand.  Karl lied.

Karl did NOT reveal that his source was a Repubican, and yet he presented these clear fabrications as factual.  Karl lied.

Then again, Karl has a long history of promoting right-wing causes.  In fact he wrote a book defending right-wing militias: “The Right to Bear Arms: The Rise of America’s New Militias”

I have never trusted Jonathan Karl – and he proves me right.

On a lighter note, today would be Pres. John F. Kennedy's 96th Birhtday.  (How's that for making you feel old?)

    • You know Nameless, I still remember the day JFK was assassinated, what I was wearing and my emotional reaction.  This year is the 50 year anniversary.  WOW!

      • Pretty much, me too.

I was a sophomore in High School, in my English class.  It was taught by a former All-State basketball player who was 6' 4" of solid muscle.  The announcement came over the intercom (do they even still have those?), and this hulk of a man just put his head on his desk and wept uncontrollably.

Stunned doesn't do justice to what the class felt. (Although I have NO idea what I was wearing … and probably doesn't matter much.)

        • What we wore at the time doesn't matter as far as I am concerned.  The memory of it is more an indication of the indelible mark that moment made, frozen in our time line forever.  I was in Mr Daughn's grade 6-7 class and was wearing a medium blue jumper.

    • The bias was clearly obvious.

If only he had had a chance to finish.

  5. Puzzle — 3:55  I stripped the gears getting it out of first into 2nd!

Media Matters — Jonathan Karl should be fired from ABC News.  He fits in better with Faux Noise sensibilities — it makes up the details when it suits.  He is not a TV journalist.  He is a fiction writer, and not a very good one either.  Letter signed.

Daily Kos — My guess is that Faux Noise didn't feel it necessary to run Dole by the thought police.  Let's face it — he's old guard; he's 89 years old; and when it came to ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, despite him being on the Senate floor, ratification was denied even though the Convention was largely based on US legislation.  Who listens to Bob Dole anymore?  Personally, I hope that a lot of the sheeple listened because maybe then they will get a wake-up call and vote the Republican/Teabaggers out of office!

MCNBC — May the Force be with Obama!

Cartoon — And on May 2, 2013, Rhode Island became the 10th U.S. state to embrace marriage equality!  RI might have been last to ratify the Constitutionm, but it is in the first states to approve marriage equality.

  6. Puzzle – 6:22

     ‘closed for repairs’

    Should be permanent…. 💡
