12Debate

I enjoyed watching last night’s Vice Presidential debate, as much as I cringed during the first Presidential debate.  Uncle Joe was magnificent.  We could easily determine the winner from the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise.  They called Biden rude, unhinged, and a cranky old man.  Their whining, instead of crowing, is a dead giveaway.  Here are some of my observations of the debate, but first, in case you missed it, here is the complete video.

Or if you prefer, the debate transcript is here.

If Ryan won a point it was the segment on Benghazi.  Biden correctly refuted that the Administration was wrong in their initial reports, because that’s the information they were getting from the intelligence community.  He also nailed Ryan for accusing Obama of inadequate security when Republicans, under Ryan’s budgetary leadership, cut $300 million from embassy security.  But he was not prepared to explain the entire issue.

Ryan embarrassed himself on Afghanistan.  He just could not understand how Afghan troops are replacing US troops being withdrawn.

On domestic policy, Biden won going away.  The high point was rubbing Ryan’s nose in his own letters requesting stimulus funds, because they would ‘create jobs’.  He also pinned Ryan to his record on Social Security, Medicare, Taxes and women’s rights.

The process was so upsetting to Ryan that he actually said something true by mistake once or twice, but he lived up to his reputation as Lyin’ Ryan.

Here are a few of Ryan’s lies:

He said the US should apologize for troops burning Korans and urinating on Afghan corpses, but he and Romney have criticized Obama for doing so.

He accused Obama of watering sanctions against Iran, when what Obama had done was negotiate a set of sanctions the international community would support.

He said Romney is a ‘car guy’, who supports auto workers.

He repeated the thoroughly debunked $716 billion Medicare lie.

He repeated the thoroughly debunked death panel lie.

He said Obamacare will force one out of six hospitals out of business.

He said Obamacare will make 21,000 lose their health insurance.

He said that a Democratic Senator from Oregon supports his Medicare plan.

He said that ending Bush tax cuts for the top 2% would raise the taxes of over one million small businesses.

He said Obama called Assad a reformer during the Syria crisis.

He said the greatest personal trait he offers is complete honesty.

That last one is a real doozy!  Now Ryan did not rise to the standard of Lord Willard, but who could ever outdo the Lord of Lies.

Chris Matthews with Joy-Ann Reid and Martin O’Malley think there may be a post-debate bounce.

In the end, Biden had several advantages.  He is passionate about supporting the 99%.  The things, about which Ryan is passionate, are things he cannot afford to admit.  Biden is linked with Barack Obama.  Ryan is saddled with Willard Romney.  Ryan was outclassed by Biden’s skill.

Biden’s face was wonderfully animated, and will Ryan did well at keeping a silly grin pasted on his face, the way his beady eyes kept shifting left me with the image of Ryan in Eddie Munster mode at a time when Thing has escaped from his box, has worked his way up Ryan’s pants leg, and has struck pay dirt.

I do hope Obama follows suit.

  1. I love Joe Biden.  Great debate.  Cannot believe the lies that Ryan kept telling, they certainly think they the more they say something, people will believe it.  I don't think even the Republicans/Tea Party truly believe in R/R.  How can they, if they have any sense at all?
Ryan must have had something salty for dinner, he certainly was thirsty, wasn't he?
I sincerely hope that the President does a Biden and takes Romney to the woodshed, he should know by the outcome of the first debate that he needs to get lean and mean, nice doesn't work with R/R.
Fired up and ready to go?  Now if we can stop the ashats from stealing this election.

  2. This was the most enjoyable 90 minutes I have spent watching TV in a very long time.
I laughed as much as Joe di if not more.

  3. Two GREAT Tweets from Bill Maher:

Hello, 9-1-1? There's an old man beating a child on my TV.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Ryan … but it'd be cool if Biden actually made him cry.

    • Both are good Nameless, but the first had me cackling out loud!

"Hello, 9-1-1? There's an old man beating a child on my TV." — indeed!!!!!!!!!!

    • Thanks, SoINeedAName. I had only seen the first one and thought it hilarious.
I think it would have been better if Little Eddie Munster had cried too. He whines enough. Let's see the tears too. Or, would that be too much like the Bonehead?

  4. It was by far the most fun filled debate  I  have ever seen' ;  Ryan was no match for Joe Biden–he was  so far outclassed ,
Ryan kept that silly  i/2 assed smirk on his face – guzzled  water by the quart- beady blinking eyes kept shifting– The very image of  a Liar–
Biden took that  wimpy   whippersnapper to the woodshed !! !!

  5. I have read a number of posts, heard a news byte on the radio last evening, and watched the Faux Noise link above and all portrayed Joe Biden as rude, obnoxious, laughing inappropriately, condescending, interrupting etc etc.  What I saw was a passionate man, a man that cares for his country, a man that cares for people, a man that tells it like it is, and a man that did not act inappropriately nor was he condescending.  He was articulate and had specifics to back up his points.  I think Joe had to restrain himself and his probable desire to kick the shit out of this young upstart, Lyin' Ryan!  Lyin' Ryan on the other hand seemed to repeat all the lies and misinformation that he has been using  for months and was, in my opinion (humble or otherwise), purposefully vague and dodgey, even to the point of not answering a question but rather changing the question!  Thinking back to the first debate, Romney was a bully, rude, interrupting, and tried running the debate.  Yet Republicans were quick to downplay this behaviour.  In my mind, Joe Biden clearly won the debate on style, content, and passion!

And proof of Biden's even temperament can be seen in his light hearted response to Ryan's somewhat rude remark: "I think the Vice President knows that sometimes the words don't come out of your mouth the right way."  Biden laughed and replied :"But I always say what I mean."

Just the fact that Lyin' Ryan said that the best personal trait he offers is honesty, is worth five pinocchios out of four!

Ryan — "…we should stand up for peace, democracy and individual rights. …" — so why does the US have a war on women, war on the poor; so why does Romney/Ryan have such a Manifest Destiny approach and want to increase the military budget by more than $2 trillion more than the military wants.  So why are the Republicans pursuing voter suppression policies and election fraud?

    Get out the vote!!!!!

    Vote Democratic 2012!!!!!     Vote Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!

  6. I watched the debate and thoroughly enjoyed watching Uncle Joe put the squirt in his place.  Loved the Eddie Munster reference, just realized that is  who Ryan has been reminding me of, and hadn't been able to connect til now.
