Yesterday catching up the blog took my entire day, as it has so far today.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow I have a grocery delivery coming, and it will take hours to unpack and store it.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:04 (average 5:06).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Former Vice President Dick Cheney had a heart transplant on Saturday after 20 months on a waiting list, and was recovering in a Virginia hospital, a statement from his office said.

I can think of nobody who deserves it less.

From LA Times: White House senior adviser David Plouffe stepped up the administration’s public embrace of its healthcare law, saying he would “guarantee” that by the end of the decade “we’re going to be glad the Republicans called it Obamacare.”

I think Plouffe is right.

From Common Dreams: Shaima Alawadi, 32 and a mother of five, has died after being taken off life support Saturday at a hospital in San Diego County, various media report today. She had be discovered severely beaten in her home by her daughter, 17 year old …, on Wednesday. A note was discovered nearby that said “go back to your country”.

Shaima Alawadi, 32 and a mother of five, has died after being taken off life support Saturday at a hospital in San Diego County. Alawadi was an Iraqi who had emigrated to the United States in the mid-nineties, but only recently relocated to the town of El Cajon in the San Diego area.

I consider this crime a direct result of efforts by the Republican Party to foment hatred against Muslims.

  1. So someone who truly deserved a heart didn’t get it because the oil pump pumping the black gold through Cheney’s (pipe lines) veins died and needed replacement.

Hope their getting him healthy so he can participate in his War Crimes Trial at the Hague where he will be hung for his crimes when found guilty.

  2. ” Most patients stay in the hospital for about a month after surgery, and recent studies estimate that first-year costs for a heart transplant and follow-up care are close to $1 million. ”

More expense that it’s worth although, it would be nice if he took a visit overseas….

  3. Chickenhawk Cheney — When I heard this on the radio, my Christian values took a side step as I couldn’t think of anyone less deserving.  Now I have heard some people say that they retain some feeling of the donor, so I sure as hell hope that the donor was a saint (not like Santorum as some refer to him as a saint!) and that some goodness will rub off.

My thoughts are with the donor’s family as they morn the loss of their loved one.  I wonder if they will ever know who received their loved one’s heart?

Obamacare — LA TIMES — “He cited three areas frequently raised by Obama’s team: the law’s requirement that all health plans provide free preventive care, including mammograms for women; the rule allowing parents to keep children in their early 20s on their health plans; and reduced prices for some drugs for senior citizens.”   Well we know where the GOP stand on this — they launched a war on women; they are against anything that makes sense; and they are attacking programmes that directly benefit the elderly.

As to Mr Flip-Flop, he changes his mind more often than most people change their shorts!  He’d change his mind if he thought it would get him more money, more press or more power.

Shaima Alawadi — Craig Anderson murdered by 3 young men when they ran over him with their Ford F250 pickup truck all because he was black (and I don’t buy the sincerity of the statement of remorse made by one of his murders!); Trayvon Martin murdered in Florida by Zimmerman, in my opinion a racist thug; and now Shaima Alawadi dead as a result of a beating by persons unknown at this point, the only clue a note on which a hate message was written.

In my opinion, hate crimes are too often the result of low education levels and very low self esteem.  Some might say that the GOP politicians are not ‘low education’ people, but I say they are adept at manipulating others to promote their own agenda.  And that is what the GOP do well — playing on the foibles and insecurities of vulnerable segments of society.

Cartoon — Never have truer words been uttered, unfortunately!  After this, I don’t know if I’ll want to wear my hoodies.  What a picture!

I know of no institution that doesn’t at least offer that potential.  Although it varies from institution to institution, they all follow guidelines very similar to the National Communication Guidelines set down by the Kidney Foundation.

Typically if – and ONLY if –  BOTH the donor family and recipient agree (and with variation) usually there’s a six month or so period of written communication between the parties monitored by the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) that was involved in the transplant.  And by monitor I mean the OPO literally reads the letters to be sure that no inappropriate information or phrasing is passed on.
Then if things have proceeded smoothly and BOTH parties want to meet, after signing waivers of privacy, a meeting will be arranged by the OPO with assistance from them both prior to and following the meeting.

    • If he got my heart, I’d haunt him.

  4. I don’t expect to see Cheney’s heart grow any warmer as a result of that transplant…he is still one of the most cold-hearted ieologues this country has ever seen!

  5. 3:26

A new heart will do nothing to change Cheney. I do hope he is healthy enough to travel abroad so he can finally be arrested and tried for his war crimes though. Hang ’em High!

The RepublicanTs will probably regret their nickname of ObamaCare in the future.

Hate crimes are encouraged by the Right-Wing nuts. What the hell makes them think they are Right anyway?

    Downright scary cartoon!

  6. 3:38  Patty’s the winner today (actually yesterday, now).

I didn’t know that Cheney had a heart.

  7. I just love the cartoon and yes Plouffe i think he is too.  Obama has decided to call out the GOP on all the disrespect of the Healthcare Bill and embracing ObamaCare.  He has started his own line of hats and such  Obamacare
