Tuesday I went to the prison and met with a small group of the prisoners most dedicated to change.  Because the guys dig deeply into personal issues, I can say no more, except that I could not be any more proud of them.  When I returned home, having missed my afternoon sleep, I felt exhausted, ate and went to bed.  Yesterday I listened to the SOTU speech, caught up on comments, and prepared today’s articles.  I’m current with replies.  Today is another prison volunteer day, and I’ll be working with about one hundred prisoners.  I will get home late again and will be even more tired, so it is doubtful that I will have articles for tomorrow.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Yesterday it took me 4:03 (average 5:10).  To do it, click here.  Today it took me 3:27 (average 4:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: A new round of criminal charges is coming soon against at least a couple of Gov. Scott Walker’s former county staffers for doing extensive campaign activity while on the taxpayers’ dime, sources say.

The charges – which should be filed by District Attorney John Chisholm’s office in the next week or two – will be part of the long-running John Doe investigation of Walker’s aides and associates during his tenure as Milwaukee County executive.

Already, the probe has led to multiple felony charges against Walker’s onetime deputy chief of staff, Tim Russell, and former county veterans official Kevin Kavanaugh. They are accused of taking more than $60,000 in donations intended for Operation Freedom, an annual event at the county zoo for veterans and their families.

Goodie!!! 😀

From Business Week: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he would veto a bill to allow same-sex marriage, even as Democrats in the Senate said they have enough votes to pass it.

For Republican politicians hate trumps what America wants.

From The Hill: Senate Republicans slammed their Democratic colleagues on Tuesday for not passing a budget in exactly 1,000 days, accusing Democrats of shirking their duty in a period of soaring deficits.

How ironic!  These Republican liars are accusing Democrats for not passing bills that Republicans filibustered and blocked.

From SPLC: A Georgia administrative law judge has ordered President Obama to appear at a hearing on Thursday regarding a “birther” complaint challenging the president’s eligibility for office.

Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi issued his decision Friday, writing that the president’s legal team “failed to enlighten the court with any legal authority” to back up its argument that no U.S. president should be compelled to attend a court hearing. They also failed to prove that attending the hearing would be “unreasonable and oppressive” and that the president’s testimony would be “irrelevant, immaterial or cumulative,” he wrote.

Orly Taitz, who filed one of the complaints and has for years led the farcical battle to prove that the president is constitutionally unqualified for office, called Malihi’s decision a “major victory.”

Teabuggery most foul!

From MoveOn: About that liberal media.

This was immediately after Obama took office with a Democratic majority in both Houses, so by rights, there should have been more Democrats on TV that weekend.

Would you believe that the reason the unemployment rate is so high is that Senate Democrats have obstructed all the many Republican jobs bills that passed the House?  If you believe Speaker John Boehner, aka Agent Orange, that’s what has happened.  But believing Boehner is a very bad idea, because John Boehner is a liar, and here is the proof that he is lying.

BonerOrangeI keep hearing this ridiculous canard in Republican debates and now from John Boehner about the alleged jobs bills the Republicans have passed that the "Democrat Senate" refuses to act upon. Since I watched the better part of their activity in real time, I know this is a lie. But most people aren’t obsessive-compulsive about government and politics and might not realize just how much of a lie it is. So without further ado, let me debunk this claim made by the disingenuous Speaker of the House…

…To make sure they back up their public claims with what might appear to be "fact", they’ve built a page on the House of Representatives site with a list of their so-called jobs bills [GOP delinked], which number 27 and not 30 as the Speaker claims. What follows is a list and a brief explanation of why they are not jobs bills. Feel free to share it widely with your friends who might be inclined to believe Mr. Tobacco Lobbyist Check Distributor without questioning it.

HR 3630 – The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act of 2011 – This bill does indeed extend the "docfix" and unemployment insurance for a year, but with a hefty price [GOP delinked].

  • In addition to freezing federal workers’ pay for three years, it requires issuance of a permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline in advance of the proposed routing by Nebraska, suspends the newly-issued mercury regulations and extends 100% expensing of business equipment (including private jets). Another so-called "jobs bill", HR 1938 [GOP delinked], was passed giving a November 1, 2011 deadline for the Keystone pipeline.
  • With regard to unemployment insurance benefits, it cuts the 99-week maximum down to a 59-week maximum by mid-2012, allow states to drug-test UI recipients, and allow states to reduce state unemployment benefits and substitute federal funds. It also cuts funding for key provisions of the Affordable Care Act coming online, and adds the requirement to welfare payments that EBT cards cannot work in strip clubs, liquor stores and casinos.
  • Provisions were included to auction more broadband spectrum and reclassify the 700mhz D Block as public safety broadband use only, which would be a huge payoff to Verizon Wireless lobbyists, who won that block with requirements that it remain open, after Google challenged the auction process.
  • It would force Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to pay increased guarantee fees similar in scope to those due from large banks as a part of the Dodd-Frank Act, means-tests unemployment insurance benefits and food stamp programs and increases Federal employees’ contributions to their retirement system by 1.5% while freezing pay, so their pensions take a double-whammy.
  • Finally, it repeals the new timing rules for estimated corporate tax payments for companies with assets of $1 billion or more so that they can use payments of estimated taxes as a timing tool for fourth quarter profit declarations.

None of the provisions outlined above create jobs. They called it a jobs act, but it was really just an act… [emphasis original]

Here’s the video of Boehner lying.

Now, I included the author’s coverage of only one of the bills that Boehner has lied about.  The author goes on to debunk all the rest, s I encourage you to click through for the rest.

The truth here is that Republicans have blocked virtually every measure to help the economy, and with it, the availability of jobs.  What they have not blocked outright, they have watered down and directed resources to millionaires, billionaires, and corporate criminals, instead of jobs.  They have intentionally sabotaged the economy, because the better America does, the worse their chances of lying their way into power, a catastrophic fate for the US.

If you are on Medicare, about to go onto Medicare, or intending to go onto Medicare, even if you just got your very first after school job, it it critical that you understand that Democrats are fighting to preserve Medicare, while Republicans are fighting to destroy it.  Paul Ryan (R-Fitzwalkerstan) is back, and he is leading the charge to steal your benefits.

24RyanPathRepublicans in the House of Representatives will put forward a budget plan this year that will seek substantial reforms to health benefits for the elderly and make aggressive strides toward reducing deficits, a senior lawmaker said on Friday.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan said he wanted his budget plan to offer voters an alternative vision to the “cradle-to-grave welfare state” that he says Democratic President Barack Obama is promoting.

The House Republican budget resolution will contain reforms to Medicare, the healthcare program for Americans 62 and over, such as providing subsidies to help recipients pay for private insurance, based on their wealth and medical needs.

“We haven’t written it yet, but we’re not backing off on the kinds of reforms we’ve advocated,” Ryan told reporters at a retreat for House Republicans in Baltimore…

Republicans intend to replace your Medicare, for which you have paid through deductions from your pay, that guarantees care, with a coupon that does NOT guarantee care.  Because the face value of the coupon increases at a far slower rate then the increase in health care costs, the coupon will cover less and less every year.  This clearly demonstrates that people, who say that there is no difference between the parties, are wrong.  It is imperative that we put Democrats in the House, the Senate and the White House to protect our retirement years.

Republicans Murder Liberal Cat

I understand that Republicans carry a lot of hatred, inflamed as they are by disinformation from their candidates for office, and by even more extreme lies from the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, aka Fox.  However filled with hate they may be, there is absolutely no excuse for them to express it in a hate crime against a defenseless animal, just because the pet’s owner is the Campaign Manager for a Democrat.

24liberalcatThe campaign manager of Arkansas Democratic congressional candidate Ken Aden arrived home last night to find his child’s pet cat murdered on the front porch with the word “LIBERAL” scrawled across its lifeless body.

Aden’s campaign manager, Jake Burris, lives in central Arkansas with his four kids. Blue Arkansas has more on the scene at Burris’s home (emphases are ours):

Last night, Jake and his four kids had come back to their Russellville home. As they were getting out of the car, one of his children discovered their family cat dead on the front porch. One side of the animal’s head had been bashed in and an eyeball was hanging out of its socket. But there was something even more horrifying to be found on the corpse. Written across the animal’s fur in black marker was the word “LIBERAL“.

…Pope County, where Burris lives, is a highly-conservative area of Arkansas… [emphasis original]

Of course the Republican candidate running against Aden disavowed and denounced the act, to save face, but the tenor of Republican hatred building up ever since Obama and Biden defeated McConJob and Mooseolini fueled this act.

Yesterday I was out and about, walking to the mailbox, to the bank, and to the corner store.  I mailed my vote for Suzanne Bonamici.  There is a late breaking story that Newter has released his Freddie Mac contract, but it is so uninformative that the only thing worthy of note that it contains is that Newter was to report to their top lobbyist.  That disproves his claim that he was consulting as a historian, and not as a lobbyist.  The local NBC affiliate did not air the Republican debate, correctly realizing that sitcoms are more relevant.  I hear it was a yawner.  I’m current with replies.  Today I will be doing volunteer work in prison and will get home late, after missing a sleep cycle.  Therefore there may be no articles tomorrow, and, if there are, they will probably be late.

Today it took me 5:05 (average 5:50).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From MoveOn: SHOCKING: How One Bank Gets Big-Time Profits From Food Stamps

The filthy Banksters have their fingers in EVERYTHING!

From Reuters: Republican Senator Rand Paul was stopped at an airport on Monday for setting off an alarm and refusing a patdown, prompting his father, U.S. presidential candidate Ron Paul, to accuse security officials of being part of an "out of control" police state.

In a harshly worded attack on the Transportation Security Administration, which handles security screenings at U.S. airports, Ron Paul, known for his strident libertarian views, said the TSA "gropes and grabs our kids and our seniors and does nothing to keep us safe."

I actually agree that it was inappropriate for the TSA to try to pat down Rand Paul.  That extremist should be strip searched instead.

From TPM: A super PAC supporting Paul, Revolution PAC, is selling action figures of the candidate to raise money for their efforts. There are two options seen on the website [InsaniTEA delinked] — the “Commander-in-chief Ron Paul” model, complete with a snug fitting black suit and a rolled up copy of the US Constitution in his hand, and “Super-hero Ron Paul,” in which the congressman wears a blue and red suit like Superman.

Now the acolytes of the Paul cult can have an icon of their deity to put on their dashboards next to their KKK cross and Supply-side Jesus (not the real one).

Farewell Gabby!

Gabrielle Giffords is a Blue Dog.  I did not always agree with her votes, but I have to admire her courage, and any Republican would have been far worse.  A little over a year ago, Sarah “Bullseye Barbie” Palin, former Republican candidate for Vice President, turned professional liar for Faux Noise, targeted Gabby with cross-hairs, and a madman, Jared Lee Loughner, pulled the trigger, killing six and wounding thirteen, including Gabby.  Yesterday Gabby announced her retirement.

23gabbyJust over a year after being shot in the head by a crazed constituent at a Congress-on-your-corner event at a Tuscon [sic] super market, Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Sunday announced via Facebook that she is resigning her office.

“I have more work to do on my recovery so to do what is best for Arizona I will step down this week,” she said in a video statement posted on Facebook. The two-minute clip was overlaid with images of Giffords before and after the shooting, working with constituents and recovering. “I’m getting better every day,” she said. “My spirit is high.”

Giffords spent much of this month honoring the victims of the shooting, which wounded 13 and left six dead. The shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, is schizophrenic and courts are still trying to decide if he is competent to stand trial. He pleaded not guilty in March…

Farewell Gabby.  Thank you for your service and for your courage. I wish you and yours every happiness.

I certainly hope a Democrat wins Gabby’s seat.  Under the circumstances it would be most unjust for it to fall to the Party of Death.

Mitt Romney, just like all the other Republican candidates for President, is a comedian’s wet dream, and Bill Maher has a field day with Multiple Mitt.  He is sometimes offensive, and sometimes misguided, but usually quite hilarious.

MaherComedian Bill Maher blasted former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on his show Friday night for claiming that people did not like him because they envied his wealth.

“Mitt Romney has to start understanding why people don’t like him. It’s not because he’s rich. It’s how he got rich,” Maher said.

Romney has taken heat for his time spent at Bain Capital, a private equity firm he founded. His critics have portrayed him as a man who made millions of dollars by being a corporate buyout specialist. In response, Romney has claimed his detractors are criticizing free enterprise and capitalism…

Yesterday I meditated upon the Ellipsoid Orb, and although my congregation has been retired, I enjoyed both meetings.  Kudos to the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.  I’m current with replies.  Today I need to run errands and prepare for volunteer work on Tuesday.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:35 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Huffington Post: President Barack Obama’s appointments to two key agencies during the Senate’s year-end break ensures that GOP senators will return to work Monday in an angry and fighting mood.

Less clear is what those furious Republicans will do to retaliate against Obama’s “bring it on” end run around the Senate’s role in confirming nominees to major jobs.

The buzz is that they will retaliate by blocking Obama’s appointments.  That is an empty threat, because that is what they are already doing.

From Crooks and Liars: Huckabee Plays the Birther Card on Obama While Defending Romney on Tax Returns

Once upon a time the Huckster had a reputation for some integrity, however slight. No more. O’Lielly, on the other hand, never has.

From Mother Jones: While the network news shows spend this Sunday marveling over Newtmentum in South Carolina, Rick Santorum will quietly make his first stop in Florida, site of the next primary on January 31. He’ll be dropping in to see the honorary chairman of his state campaign—a Bush-connected Islamophobic pastor who says gays “make God want to vomit.”

Republican Supply-side Jesus (not the real one) would be devastated if Newter had monopoly on hateful bigotry, so the Frothmeister is stepping up.
