New Obama Rule Supports Women

There can be no doubt that Republicans want to use their big intrusive government insert themselves between a woman and her doctor, when she is pregnant.  If that isn’t bad enough, they also want to insert themselves between husband and wife in bed, as shown by Republican opposition to birth control.  Fortunately for women, Barack Obama has stepped into the gap to support women.

21pillToday, in a huge victory for women’s health, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that most employers will be required to cover contraception in their health plans, along with other preventive services, with no cost-sharing such as co-pays or deductibles. This means that after years of trying to get birth control covered to the same extent that health plans cover Viagra, our country will finally have nearly universal coverage of contraception.

Opponents of contraception had lobbied hard [fanatics delinked] for a broad exemption that would have allowed any religiously-affiliated employer to opt out of providing such coverage. Fortunately, the Obama administration rejected that push and decided to maintain the narrow religious exemption that it initially proposed. Only houses of worship and other religious nonprofits that primarily employ and serve people of the same faith will be exempt. Religiously-affiliated employers who do not qualify for the exemption and are not currently offering contraceptive coverage may apply for transitional relief for a one-year period to give them time to determine how to comply with the rule.

Twenty-eight states already require employers, including most religiously affiliated institutions, to cover contraception in their health plans. The only change is that now they must cover the full cost… [emphasis added]

You can be certain that no Republican President would have done this, because Republicans do not support women’s rights.  Republicans do NOT represent you.

Thinking about the many criticisms of Obama coming from those, who would have us stay home or waste our votes on candidates who cannot win, thus helping the Republican, consider that in every case, a Republican would do the same things you are criticizing, if not worse.  In addition, the Republican would have made the wrong choice in the many decisions where Obama has done the right thing.  Therefore, the choice between Obama and a Republican is a no-brainer.  In January 2013, either Obama or a Republican will be President.  Wishful idealism will not change that fact.  There are no other possibilities.

  1. I  agree that this was a good move – especially in an election year when suddenly there seem to be more “good moves” coming from this president than he’s shown in the last 2 years – he’s still on my probation list, and I’ll still work on my “idealist” Justice Party to see if it can evolve into a realistic opposition to the current con parties that have been screwing the people for so many years – I agree I won’t allow a “full blown” fascist ascend the throne, and if I must settle for just a semi-corrupt whore – so be it – just sayin’

  2. Democrat and independent voters stayed home in dismayingly large numbers in 2010 and look what it got us in Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, etc. Not voting or wasting a vote on a candidate with no chance of winning will only give the nazi wannabes the opportunity to give us more of the same. Vote, dammit!

  3. VOTE_ DAMMIT ! VOTE–per JD

  4. The RepublicanTs will find a way to fight this tooth and nail.

  5. This was an excellent decision from a healthcare perspective!

  6. So, the Republican/Teabaggers have no problem covering Viagra, probably the drug of choice when Newty and Limbaugh were in multiple wife trouble.  And of course, their partners would have no difficulty affording the full cost of birth control.  But for so many others, especially in the working class and the poor, cost is a big factor.  And then there is, please correct me if I’m misinformed, the birth and post birth time when some companies do not offer maternity leave.  All of a sudden there are extra costs and a loss of income to boot.  It is one thing if a couple is planning this, quite another if they weren’t.

This is a great move, and the right thing to do Mr Obama.  To be sure, a Republican/Teabagger would not have made that decision and everybody, except the 1% would pay for it.

I suppose the Republican/Teabaggers are looking for more human fodder for their illegal wars, fodder so that they don’t have to send their heir apparents off to war.

    • Actually, the author of the piece I cit6ed was wrong about one thing.  While some plans support Viagra, most, including mine, do not. 😥

      Right!

      Right!

  7. Thankyou for a wise decision. Glad to see that our rights are being protected. Too many worked too hard to secure women’s rights to have the relgious kooks and Republicans rob us of our freedom.

  8. Let me get this straight. Liberals are happy because
The government has forced people to financially support something to which they are morally opposed.
    Aren’t you noble.

    • I am morally opposed to war, but am forced to support it.  What’s the difference?

    • Patrick.  Take care.  Insults directed at people here, including you, violate the rules of this blog.  We argue issues, but treat each other with respect.  You have been warned.

Jerry beat me to my reply.
