Yesterday, I was still ill and spent most of the day in bed.  Nevertheless, I have a full slate of articles, and all deserve to be the lead article.  I’m current with replies,  Today depends on how I feel.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:57 (average 4:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From San Francisco Chronicle: Newt Gingrich’s network of businesses and policy groups that laid the groundwork for his presidential bid harken back to those that got him into ethics trouble and led to the biggest monetary penalty imposed on a U.S. House speaker.

The charges raised more than a decade ago revolved around allegations that the former speaker improperly used tax-exempt charitable and education organizations to advance partisan political purposes. Today, government ethics advocates say the former speaker used a tax-exempt public policy group to promote his candidacy.

Could it be more clear that Newt’s ethics have not changed a bit since he was drummed out of the House in disgrace?

From Bonamici for Congress:

From Alternet: On Wednesday night, Republican presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich held a fundraiser at the posh Willard InterContinental hotel in downtown Washington, DC. Waiting there for Gingrich were a few dozen protesters. Around 7 p.m., they snuck through an unlocked back door to the candlelit ballroom hosting the Gingrich affair and caused a ruckus.

Hurrah!

  1. Newt Gingrich — With the rise and fall of each Republican/Teabagger presidential wannabe, there has always been something.  Bachmann is a dingbat (sorry Edith Bunker!); Perry is plain nuts and in self destruct mode; Cain has his women; and Newt, the current front runner, could this be the smoking gun that will bring him down?  I agree that he appears to be up to his old tricks, but last time he was a member of Congress and could be held accountable there.  But was there anything criminal going on then that might also apply now?  I am assuming, because he is no longer a member of Congress, that the Congress cannot investigate for ethics violations again, and hence my question about criminal actions.  Elephants are supposed to have long memories so perhaps the fact that this is coming up again will stir some memories.  On the other hand, if, as stated in the story, the Republican/Teabaggers really don’t care about it, then I doubt anything will happen.  If that is the case, just goes to show that the whole party is without a moral and ethical foundation and should be no where near the seat of power.

Suzanne Bonamici —- Liked the add and it hit the tax of the 1%, corporate subsidies, and priorities.  Simple and understandable.

Newt’s Fundraiser — Well, I don’t know what the food was like but I’ll bet that the attendees thought the entertainment left something to be desired.  Kudos to the protesters for interrupting Newt’s lies with truth!

Cartoon — Trust me!  Yeh, right.  I’d trust a hungry python before I would trust this lizard, and I hate snakes!

    • Lynn, it may well be that his n crimes at that time are not beyond the statute of limitations.

      I agree!

      Amen to that!

      Now you’ve insulted lizards! 😈

  2. First – get better TC!!!!!!!!!   I loved the “occupation” of the eft’s fundraiser! A genius move and almost as insidious as the newt himself! Newt is no different, when you have arrogance of his kind it’s too difficult to change! I couldn’t believe that he actually entered the race to begin with – that takes chutzpah! Is it any wonder the republicans get away with as much as they do! It would be like running Corzine for president in 2016! Maybe elephants have no memory, but this dem does and the grich stinks to high heaven! I never took him seriously and I still don’t – but beware – I don’t put anything past the dumbness of this country, and the corporate money that backs it! Bonamici is aptly named! (good friend, for those unversed in Italian) – hope she gets in!

  3. Newt Gingrich carries more baggage than United Airlines.

  4. 3:53

    Occupy Newt was brilliant!

I’m sure Newt’s ex-wives trust him. Callista won’t let him out of her sight. We know how much she trusts him. Once a cheat…

  5. TomCat,

Speaking for all, we are sorry you’re still sick and want you to regain your strength ASAP, and we admire your relentless pursuit of truth, justice, and the true American way! You are a true SUPERMAN to all of us!

  6. 4:01  So close yet so far.  I thought I had you today, but , you know what, it doesn’t matter because Patty beat both of us.  She is becoming a serious puzzler.  Well done, Patty!

    • You get another good shot.

Yeah, I remember when she used to whine that she would never even bear the average, let alone us. 🙁

      😉

  7. If I was a republican, I would really be embarrassed.  They have no serious candidate.  They bounce from one crazy to another crazy.  Now, Newt?  They can’t be serious!  The Democrats must be laughing their asses off.  This election will be a huge waste of money and time.

    They have no serious candidate!
