28US-Citizenship-Test

Because it’s a slow-news holiday weekend, I can bring you another plus that would normally fall through the cracks, due to more pressing news.  To pass the test to become a US citizen, applicants must answer at least six of ten questions, chosen at random from a base of 96 questions.  I’m, confident that few, if any, of the Republican candidates for President could pass. Here are the 64 questions.  Taking the test will take a while, because it explains the correct answer after each question.  I took it and answered 95 correctly.  Have fun!!

You can take the test at Christian Science Monitor.

On that 96th question, I actually knew the answer, but chose that Canadians, not Africans, were the group enslaved prior to the Civil War.  I couldn’t help myself.  I’ve always wanted to own a Canadian. 😉

  1. Outstanding post Tom! We should all pass this with flying colors before commenting on this country or its politics.

  2. I passed fine– !! but I sure had to think  a couple of times–lol

  3. Boy, you were fortunate, because my test had 96 Questions – and the site was slow!  I got lucky on a couple of guesses to get 100%, but was disappointed when you click on the “How Does Your Score Compare?” option at the end, it doesn’t show you anything.  (But I will say when they asked “Name one reason Colonialists came to this country” for those that answered “For the adventure of crossing the ocean” they should count that as correct )

Now if the Bible were the Law of the Land, according to Leviticus 25:44-46 you WOULD be able to own a Canuck.  (Please Note: “Canuck” is NOT a derogatory term)

    • Hi Nameless!

You’re right — Canuck is not a derogatory term but exactly the opposite and I should know, I’m a Canuck, and proudly so.  The Johnny Canuck that I knew was a WWII soldier ready to jump in and help anyone in the cause.  Here’s what Wikipedia has to say:

Johnny Canuck was a Canadian cartoon hero and superhero who was created as a political cartoon in 1869 and was later re-invented, most notably as a Second World War action hero in 1942. . . . Johnny Canuck was created as a lumberjack national personification of Canada. He first appeared in early political cartoons dating to 1869 where he was portrayed as a younger cousin of the United States’ Uncle Sam and Britain’s John Bull. Dressed as a habitant farmer, logger, rancher or soldier, he was characterized as wholesome and simple-minded and was often depicted resisting the bullying of John Bull or Uncle Sam. He appeared regularly in editorial cartoons for 30 years before declining in usage in the early twentieth century.

Here’s one of the cartoons circa 1910:

  4. There were 96 questions on my test, too. Unfortunately, my internet connection crapped out after question #86 and when I got it back, the Monitor didn’t remember where I was in the test. You’re right, it is annoyingly slow; so slow that I didn’t care to wade through it again to get back to where I was. Had 85 out of 86 when it crashed, so I’m gonna say I passed. Would love to require all of our candidates for office to take this test – in public!

  5. Dammit….I got to 69 and it kicked me off!!!! Got 69 out of 69 though before it decided to oust me. I really hate that!!!!! Went back and it started all over again, I don’t have the time to do it all over again. 🙁

  6. You answered 92 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 96%.

The site was really slow too.

  7. slow site..got 95 out of 96 (I refuse to admit Boehner is the Seaker of the House!;)

I was glad it said Terrorists (not Islamic Terrorists) attacked the USA on 9/11/11 – I believe Bu$h Leaguers were behind the whole thing & they’re certainly Terrorists!

  8. Crap, should’ve been 9/11/01 – sorry!

  9. TC — “On that 96th question, I actually knew the answer, but chose that Canadians, not Africans, were the group enslaved prior to the Civil War.  I couldn’t help myself.  I’ve always wanted to own a Canadian.”

I’ll send you a dozen.  I hear that one is so much better than all the Americans together!  🙂  The site and the net was so slow that it took me 3 hours to do 1/3 of the test but I did get 94%.  I refuse to go back and do it again with the performance issues. Can I still flap my jaws about US politics etc?

  10. I got 100% and found the questions rather easy.

I can understand people who were not educated in America, or did not grow up in America, not knowing all the answers.

  11. No wonder Republicans would have such a hard time with it—those questions were a cinch. Way too easy.
