Are you ready for Bush-Lite?

Mitt Romney introduced America to his foreign policy positions and advisors today.  It was a trip back into the “my way or the highway” cowboy diplomacy of GW Bush, indicating that Romney is making a play for the Neocon wing of the Republican Party, since the Theocon and InsaniTEA wings hate him.  He called for a “New American Century”, giving rise to memories of the Project for a New American Century (PNAC), now defunct because their analysis and predictions proved completely false, and their strategy, which was adopted whole by the Bush Regime, proved disastrous.  This must be what Romney intends, because many PNAC leaders are now in his foreign policy team.  When it comes to Romney, I agree with Seamus.

8RomneyBushCalling for a new “American century,” Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney laid out a muscular agenda for promoting U.S. interests abroad, saying here Friday that he would expand naval and missile defense systems and repair relationships with Israel, Mexico and other U.S. allies.

Romney said he immediately would review U.S. troop commitments in Afghanistan and would make a decision “free of politics” by surveying generals in the field, but he offered no detailed plan for withdrawing from the decade-long war there. The former Massachusetts governor sharply condemned the isolationist policies pushed by some Democrats and, increasingly, leaders of his own party.

Delivering his first major foreign policy address of his 2012 campaign, Romney said he would try to work in concert with multilateral institutions such as the United Nations. But too often, he said, they become “forums for the tantrums of tyrants.” Romney said his administration would act alone whenever necessary to protect national security interests.

This century must be an American century,” Romney said. “In an American century, America leads the free world and the free world leads the entire world… [emphasis added]

Neocons were responsible for the Bush Regime’s failed plan to conquer Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Libya.  Fortunately, Republican incompetence stopped it in it’s tracks.

If you think that Romney is the lesser evil among Republicans, think again.  To find the Republican who would damage America least, the only ones that come to mind have been forced out of the party because they would nlt goose-step in lock-step with the extremists, who have taken it over.

  1. I thought the last Bush was Bush-Lite.  Romney’s more like  “near-beer” that gives you a bad after taste but no bang for the buck!

  2. I’m beginning to think that most Americans want an “American Empire” that conquers the world and creates a corporate control – and that this will sonehow resolve the problems of not only US-contolled energy/oil, but also a “take-over”(take-back) of world finances – while the world is moving in a “global” direction for the most part and we are indeed more and more globally inter-dependent. This is complete self-sabotage in my estimation, but again – it appears to be what the country wants – I think between the fact that we’re such a society of “immediate gratification” – there isn’t any tolerance for the resolutions of problems taking time, and the fact that our over use of energy can never return to what it was, people are fearful of the price that it will cost – so rather than make the sacrifices that the times demand, the “easier” way to resolve this problem is world domination, and a desire to see the rich “making it” in this country – while totally elusive to the “99%” – it holds hope for middle America – stupidity reigns supreme! (of course god has blessed this country and hence – all will be o k!!)

    • Lee, that reminds me of people on both ends of the spectrum who throw temper tantrums, because they can’t have what they want right now.

  3. The entire western hemisphere is occupied land, while the rightful owners are denied justice.

    • Amber, I agree that the Native Americans have been treated abysmally here  and deserve better.  However, I know of very few places on earth where the original inhabitants of a place were not pushed aside by outside conquerors.  It would not be possible to restore the earth to “rightful owners”.

  4. OMG, Romney almost sounds like Polk and his 54 40 or fight campaign which became known as Manifest Destiny.

“We all recognize that America needs to economize, but I don’t believe that we can economize on securing our nation and protecting our citizens and ensuring that the world remains safe and free for us and for our children,” said Romney

Note, the world for us. Is this expansionist or what?  The world being a safe play ground for US interests is important.  But there is no mention of the peoples of other countries.  It’s as if their sovereignty is of no consequence compared to American interests.

“With a heavier and heavier hand, . . . it’s overwhelmed with taxation and regulation — with policies that don’t make America as competitive globally as we can be.”

This century must be an American century,” Romney said. “In an American century, America leads the free world and the free world leads the entire world. . . . “

“. . . would try to work in concert with multilateral institutions such as the United Nations. . . .  they become “forums for the tantrums of tyrants.” . . . act alone whenever necessary to protect national security interests.”

America is not destined to be one of several equally balanced global powers. America must lead the world, or someone else will. Without American leadership, without clarity of American purpose and resolve, the world becomes a far more dangerous place, and liberty and prosperity would surely be among the first casualties.” . . . adding that the nation must maintain military supremacy.

In reading the articles, I get the impression that Romney believes that the US can take whatever it wants and impose whatever dictates it wants on any part of the world.  Is he for real?  With an arrogant attitude like that, the US will have few true allies.  And everything reeks of expansionism, but how will he pay for the military if he cuts taxes?  On the backs of the elderly, the poor and the sick by doing away with Social Security, Medicare, education funding.

This man is dangerous.  He doesn’t care about anything other than his corporate and industrial war machine bed mates.  Anyone who takes on a large number of Baby Bush’s advisors, some who have been shown to lie, hasn’t got enough gray matter to start a fire.

God help the US because Romney certainly won’t.

You’re exactly right. This is a man to be feared greatly. He has the charm to carry him to Pennsylvania Avenue because most Americans are so busy trying to make a living, look after their families and “do the right thing” for God and country that they forced to form most of their political beliefs based on the 3 minute sound bites on the 6:30 and 11:00 news. Romney reminds me of 2 different images: 1.) is the character played by Martin Sheen in “The Dead Zone” (remember the clip when the main character had the vision of Sheen forcing the VP of the US to approve the missiles, red phone beside him as they pushed the all-to-famous button that would “Let ’em fly!!” and 2.) a short little man with a German/Austrian accent, tiny mustache, slicked back coal-black hair and a piercing look in his crazed eyes ~ one who spoke of world domination as he rallied his minions to support the Fatherland.

This guy is scary because he charms the people of the United States with talk of “protecting” us, keeping us safe from terrorists. What he will deliver is a country that will be the worst terrorists the world has ever contemplated, much less seen.  He promises us a nation that will fear no one because he will see to it that we rule all others. He speaks of America as a “leader” and tells us that our ultimate global power must be established to the point that all other countries are afraid to challenge us. What he is describing is a nation that will be feared and hated worldwide, a country that threatens and bullies in order to get what it wants. A country that annihilates any and all challengers.

He’s planning on playing on our leftover fears post 9/11. He will say anything to make sure he taps into whatever we think is wrong in our country and offer us a quick-fix so he can pat us on our collective little heads as he shushes our fears and sends us to bed with a warm glass of milk. Daddy will take care of everything, just trust him and he’ll make all the bad, scary terrorist boogie men go away. He wants to ride our anxieties into the White House and if those of us who are ON to him don’t stand up and expose him for the lying, war-mongering narcissistic self-appointed demi-God that he is, we’re in for far worse than anything George W. ever thought of. This man is dangerous. And when I say this, I’ll probably have the Fibbies on my doorstep this afternoon but what the hell, free speech, right? He is probably more dangerous in many ways than Bin Ladin ever thought of being.

Peace Out, folks. And if you don’t hear from me again, please call my mom?

    • And that is exactly the way Bush was.

  5. TomCat, I love that picture of Baby Bush and Romney, but until now I didn’t know why.

It looks like Romney is saying to Baby Bush in a devious aside (looks like he is talking out of the side of his mouth) “Watch George, I’m going to show you how to really screw the American people, and do so with impunity!”  And Baby Bush just laughs at the thought of the American people getting screwed.

Watch it Baby Bush because you are an every day American citizen now, albeit with a past. But I wouldn’t put too much into that since you played your own games with the country and screwed over everybody royally.

  6. You have put into words much of what I was trying to do– Romney  scares me more than any other– He has inherited all the principles , and ideals of  the old Manifest Destiny   ;  ” reading the articles, I get the impression that Romney believes that the US can take whatever it wants and impose whatever dictates it wants on any part of the world.  Is he for real?  With an arrogant attitude like that, the US will have few true allies.  And everything reeks of expansionism, but how will he pay for the military if he cuts taxes?  On the backs of the elderly, the poor and the sick by doing away with Social Security, Medicare, education funding.ny way of thinking–” Lynn Squance

    • Another thing about him is that, whatever group he addresses,he takes their side, placing him firmly on both sides of every issue with duped fools in his wake.
