Yesterday I spent most of the day meditating on the mysteries of the Ellipsoid Orb, but I did spend a couple hours testing different smiley plugins.  Sadly, none worked so I’ll have to prepare a smiley reference page.  I slept longer than normal and am running behind again.  I’m current on replies.  Tomorrow I have volunteer work and housework to do.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:03 (average 4:21).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From USA Today: One day after the funeral in Savannah, Ga., of longtime death row inmate Troy Davis, whose Sept. 21 execution generated global attention, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo has published an opinion piece in the News in which he complains that death penalty supporters assume the criminal justice system cannot make a mistake.

He’s exactly right.

From News Hounds: Bill Maher is a comedian who whose political satire is equal opportunity. His show is on HBO which is a pay for view channel. Yet, Fox Nation seems to have an obsession about him that belies the Fox Nation mission statement about being "opposed to intolerance." But inquiring minds want to know how the nomenclature of Bill Maher as "Pig Maher" (Incuding the most recent example, five times) comports with their commitment to "observing the rules of civility and mutual respect."

I do the same thing.  Crawford Caligula, Potomac Pinocchio, Texas Torquemada, ChickenHawk Cheney, Agent Orange, Blood-libel Barbie, Christine, O’Dingbat, Obtuse Angle, Bought Bitch Mitch and more are all TC originals.  So what’s the difference?  Fox claims to be a news channel that reports “fair and balanced” news.  They claim to “observe the rules of civility and respect” at all times.  In truth they are the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, not news, unfair and unbalanced, factually inaccurate, and disrespectful to the left to the point of hate mongering.  I, on the other hand, am a commentator, not a reporter.  I wear my bias as a badge of honor, but fact check my articles faithfully.  When I’m wrong, I do not double down.  I admit it.  I do not demand respect for public figures, only for people who comment here and me, regardless of political persuasion, and enforce that rule fairly.  I have lost friends for deleting personal attacks against people who left right-wing comments here.  So the difference is simple.  They are hypocrites.  I am not.

From Washington Post: Speaking at an event hosted by a prominent gay advocacy group, President Obama on Saturday night chastised the his GOP presidential rivals for failing to speak up when some members of the audience at a debate last month booed a gay soldier.

Also, for the first time, he publically called for the end of DOMA.

  1. 3:53  Former Vice President Dracula, demands an apology!

  2. 3:48

I like your use of nicknames. I use them too. But, I am not a public figure and I am not on the news (yet).

Pres. Obama’s speech chastising the RepublicanT “contenders to the throne” was very good. I’m glad he called them on their insensitivity to the American soldier.

    • Not bad!

      Thanks!

      That was a stellar moment!

    • Patty, RepublicanT “contenders to the throne”, I’d call them “pretenders to the throne”.  The only throne they should by on is the one in the outhouse, splinters and all!

  3. 3:48  Patty and I tie.  Unfortunately for both of us, TomCat is much faster.  I am 89 out of 276 (322).

  4. Puzzle — well today was 4:50, just 29 seconds longer than average.

Mario Cuomo — ” . . . death penalty supporters assume the criminal justice system cannot make a mistake.”   How can the criminal justice system not make a mistake when it is run by fallible people.  I agree with Cuomo.  There is no room in a civil society for such barbaric practices that do not deter crime, that do not serve justice.  From USAToday.com :

Amnesty International, which worked for years to exonerateDavis, urged its supporters worldwide to remember him Saturday by wearing black armbands and “I am Troy Davis.”

The advocacy group’s U.S.director, Larry Cox,  spoke from the dais behindDavis’ casket Saturday urging those who fought to spare his life not to give up untilAmerica ends its use of the death penalty.

If you thought you saw us fighting to save Troy Davis, now that we’ve been inspired by Troy Davis, you ain’t seen nothing yet,” Cox said.

Bill Maher — Hey, it’s the “Do as I say, not as I do” Republican Department of Propaganda we’re talking about here!  . . . “opposed to intolerance.” and “observing the rules of civility and mutual respect.” have nothing in common with the Republican Department of Propaganda.  Please remember their golden rule : “Do as I say, not as I do” .  Even I have a favourite nickname for Cheney — Piece of Bilious Flotsam, Bilious Flotsam for short.  TomCat, BTW, when did the US start having ‘Ministries’?  You’re starting to think Canadian or British, Sir TomCat!  ROFLOL

Gay Rights — The GOP have to get past their homophobic beliefs.  As Mr Obama said, ” . . . You want to be Commander-in-Chief? You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient.”  The POTUS represents ALL the people of the nation, not just the ones that voted for him/her.  By sticking their heads in the sand like a bunch of ostriches will not make being LGBT go away.  And DOMA has to go as it represents more of the same old tired rhetoric.

Cartoon — SCOTUS eh!  They look like they’d be a barrel of laughs at a party!  NOT!  Injustice Thomas looks like he has a really bad case of gas.  Probably from his unjust rendering on the Troy Davis case.

  5. That’s good!

    Amen!

Actually  I shortened that from Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda.

    Amen again!

    Gee… I wonder what he’s full of… 🙄
