Monthly Report for July 2011

Posted by at 1:32 am  Blog News
Aug 022011

In July, Politics Plus performed poorly in every category.  Uniques, visits, page views, hits and bandwidth are all down from June’s record.  I consider page views most important, because to generate more than one page view on a visit, someone has to open other pages to actually read them.  There are several reasons for the decrease.  One of our biggest non-blog referrers received complaints from people who do not want this message heard.  We I was banned from posting our links.  When I finally learned what happened, I contacted their management, and we worked it out, but most of the month was gone. The other reason is the time I missed with health problems.

Here are our basic stats:

vv7-2011

Here is our most recent Clustrmap, last updated on August 1.

Clustrmap080111

Our Clustrmap reset the morning of 2/28, starting over from scratch. The largest circles represent over 1,000 visits.  The tiniest represent one to ten.

Our average durations were up from 219 seconds last month:

Number of visits: 35728 – Average: 240 s

That’s normal, because fewer visitors usually spend more time here individually.

Search engine referrals were down considerably.

Here’s some linkey-love in return  The best ways you can spread the message to others is to use the share button at the bottom of each article to list our articles on the the networking sites where you belong. Quote PP articles on your own blogs also helps.  The operative commandment here is β€œthou shalt steal.”  We’re on the same side here, and I encourage.  Even if you want to repost a whole article, that’s OK.  Just link back, please.  Also, feel free to swipe my graphics in the articles.  If they are labeled with our URL, they are my work.

Here are the top fifteen commenters for June.

The widget is in the right column.  I don’t count, as I’m the resident big mouth, and I try to reply to every comment.  Those who leave their URLs in their comments, get linkey love.

Technorati finally makes sense this month.  Our performance was off and so were our ratings.  We are now B list again.

This site’s authorities

across Technorati:

Technorati Authority: 464

Rank: 3783

We have 600,279 links on other websites, up from 485,496 from last month.

We have 2,603 articles and 21,341 comments, as of midnight 8/1.

We have new wacky avatars, and I rotate them each month, but I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use.  Whenever you comment under that e mail address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will be your avatar.

Your participation remains what makes this blog worth reading, not to mention worth writing.  Many people who visit here have told me  that they come here to read your comments in addition to my articles.  Politics Plus exists to help end right-wing insanity.  Thank you all for all you do, here and elsewhere, to help make that happen.

  1. My, My. You certainly have been busy.

  2. “Many people who visit here have told me that they come here to read your comments in addition to my articles.”

If you’ve attracted so many good commenters, it’s a sign that you’re doing something right with your blog.

  3. You’re the best! TomCat! πŸ˜€

  4. Okay, Tom – I’m still kinda new to the blogosphere, having done it for only about 9 months. and i’m jealous as hell. While I’m certainly building up, i still only hit 2027/2810 in visits/pageviews for last month. Of course, even though I’ve viewed Care2 for a couple of years, I didn’t know I could post there. And I never heard of jabberwonk before, either. (I contribute some to cheesy examiner.com – just for the chumpchange, mind you – but I did have one story recently break 2K reads in 3 days! That avenue is for direct traffic to the stories, though, and not for links to the site.) So, please – what am I to do to pick up traffic, and from where? (www.rob-servations.com/robs-blog.html) Help me out, and I’ll give you some tips in fantasy football πŸ˜›

    • Rob, the first thing is to add your URL in the header when you comment elsewhere. If people like what you have to say, they will follow you home. Keep posting your articles on Buzzflash. Care2 is excellent. Post your articles in news. Send me a link when you do, and I’ll plug you to over 100 followers there. Stumbleupon is also excellent. Tell Phyllis (Passatter you’re a friend of mine). Jabberwonk used to be excellent, but it’s gone downhill.

      Does that help?

      • Well, here’s the one I’m trying through care2 (but through the examiner.com version – it’s actually made about $15 being spread around from that one in about 3 days): http://www.care2.com/news/member/941748300/2891395

I assume need to be rather reserved in posting to new spots, under pretense they’d assume I’m just wallpapering their sites selfishly (and would wind up tossed from them).

I also get some through networkedblogs.com, which I hooked up w/ via fb, and from current.com (which I only use for entries that have gone other places first – it seems like links provided there get trapped, as in http://www.current.com/www.yoursite.com, although some users there do followup).

On StumbleUpon, I’ve added to it through the ‘add on’ i have …. just a smittance here and there, though. I suppose regularity in presence and contribution would be needed? And just how do I find this Phyllis?

Thanks for the tips – (and if I were you, I’d be leery of the Raiders backfield this year).

        • Hi Rob,

I started slow at care2, but people wanted more. The best way you can demonstrate that you aren’t just SPAMMING is to comment frequently to articles other than your own. I’ll put your article in my daily mail-out.

On SU, I’m TomCat1948. Find and follow me and look in my favorites. You’ll find Phyllis there. She goes by Passatter.

Gee, that’s almost as valuable as “Avoid Republicans” πŸ˜‰

  5. Memphis Johnny gave me a real run for my money – I had a hard time keeping up with him – and he’s a newbie!! His comments were great though!

    • Yes they were, as are yours.

    • Thank you, Lisa G.! I have enjoyed reading your’s and everybody’s comments here on PoliticsPlus. I learn a lot! I believe the most intelligent people come together to comment on TomCat’s most excellent blog. It, along with my morning coffee is the first thing I enjoy everyday! Every single one of you are interesting! πŸ˜€
