Yesterday was cooler.  I slept all day, so I’m writing without toothpicks supporting my eyelids.  I’m current on replies and plan to rest today to finish recovering from the mini heat wave.

jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me  3:49 (5:13 average).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Huffington Post: During Thursday’s talks between the president’s team and congressional leadership, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner reportedly revealed that he believed the administration did not have the constitutional authority under the 14th Amendment to simply ignore the debt ceiling and continue borrowing money.

ARGH!  Timmy the Tool has to GO!  I suspect that, if it comes down to a default crisis or a Constitutional crisis, Obama would choose the latter.

From Bend Bulletin: Georgia investigators have found evidence of cheating at close to 80 percent of the Atlanta schools where they examined the 2009 administration of state tests.

The result was inflated test scores that led to thousands of children being denied the remedial education they were entitled to, state officials said Tuesday in announcing the results of the investigation. More than 80 educators have so far confessed to misconduct. Investigators said the cheating dated back to at least 2001.

This is the Republican approach to education.

From Politico:

Former President Bill Clinton Wednesday compared GOP efforts to limit same-day voter registration and block some convicted felons from voting to Jim Crow laws and poll taxes.

In a speech to liberal youth activists Wednesday, the former president called out proposals in battleground states like Florida and Ohio that could limit the voter rolls.

Willie got this one right!

  1. Tmmeh doesn’t know shit from shinola, as they used to say. He can use the 14th amendment and as I vociferously noted above, he should should be farming in Iowa (plants, not animals, so he could fuck up the poor animals worse than the Treasury) instead of being Treasury Secretary. What a dumass. πŸ™„

No, that is the result of Every Child being left behind. If you had to choose cheating over having your school closed, what would you do? They pass over the kids education either way, GA just took a shortcut. No wonder those people vote R for everything. πŸ™„

Willie better start getting some right – he’s been in the doghouse for years. He’s a really smart guy, but sometimes he’s way off on things. I’d like to see him speak out more, but only in a progressive voice. πŸ™ πŸ™

You should have put Boner and Cantor on that pledge board as well. When his state is bankrupt, who’s he going to cry too? πŸ˜†

    • Amen!

That exactly what Bush did in Texas to make it appear viable.

      LOL! Yes!

They both signed it, but I don’t have thge pic.

  2. Get the toothpicks out of your eyes, TomCat. It’s not good for you.

It seems as though “no child left behind” was a big failure for Georgia. They treated education like a production line. Just move ’em out so we can get funding.

  3. 4:36 Well, I beat the average today, at least. I am 60 out of 189 (317).

  4. Dude! (TomCat) You need me to send an air-conditioner and some fans up there??? 😎

” Former President Bill Clinton Wednesday compared GOP efforts to limit same-day voter registration and block some convicted felons from voting to Jim Crow laws and poll taxes.”~~~in summary.

Also, I have thought for a long time that the GOP is trying to bring back “Jim Crow” and expand it to ALL poor people, not just any one race of people, as before. There’s all kinds of marginalization going on these days, it seems to me. πŸ‘Ώ

    • There’s a “Donate” button at the very bottom of the left column under “Lisa Made Me Do It” that I’ve used before – and was tempted to use again – but I got the feeling since the site is a *.org I doubt it can be used for personal funding.

I’d again be willing to chip in some money if TC can give us some instructions on how to do it without compromising him or the site.

Some useful info from my July, 2011 Consumer Reports magazine on window air conditioners (and I’ll only include what they consider a “CR Best Buy”):
      A. Small (Cools ~100 – 300 sq. ft.)
      Kenmore 70051 ($150)
      Frigidaire LRA074AT7 ($165)
      B. Mid-Sized (Cools ~ 250 – 400 sq. ft.)
Sharp AF-S85RX ($180 – Available only at Costco)
      LG LW8011ER ($200)
      C. Large (Cools ~ 350 – 650 sq. ft. NOTE: This class had NO “CR Best Buys”)
      Frigidaire LRA107BuU1 (Lowe’s carries it as FRA106CT1) ($250)
      Kenmore 70101 ($275)

I just bought and installed the Sharp one for my 94 y/o Mom. She has an older one, but she recently fell and broke her hip (she’s doing fine), but it took both her and I together (yep, last year at 93 y/o she helped) to install the older one, whereas I was able to put the Sharp one in by myself. She uses it to cool her entire downstairs, and says it’s working great!

So TC, give us some directions.

      • I’m in! ❗

        • Thanks guys, but here is the deal. My building has old single phase wiring with 1/4 the capacity of modern construction. Any one of those nice units would run for almost two seconds before the circuit breaker went. I have the money to go out and buy one today, but it won’t help. Thank you for caring.

  5. On a lighter note, TalkingPointsMemo has an eye-witness report of Paul “Let-Them-Eat-Cake” Ryan enjoying two bottles of $392 wine w/ two lobbyists. TPM interviewed him about it, and Ryan showed his receipt for the purchase of one of the bottles – and TPM took a picture of it!
The fun thing is that when Ryan added $392 and his $80 tip – he first comes up with $372!
Ahhhh … Repubican math at its finest!
