I did not pay attention to the Casey Anthony trial. I saw a rant from Nancy Grace a long while back, which I discounted, because she was fighting for a conviction before a jury had even been selected, as she always does. I have no opinion on the jury’s verdict, except that the jury rendered a verdict and that settles the issue. I’m not seeking opinions about the verdict. This article is about Nancy Grace and others, whose behavior demonstrates that they have no respect for the Constitutional presumption of innocence, and use their media access to try to sabotage it.
Nancy Grace’s reaction to the not guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony trial is one for the ages of cable TV.
You could not invent a character like Grace. You might think Grace would be somewhat more even-handed after the woman she characterized as a murderer was declared not guilty.
But not Grace. Take a look at this video.
After priming the emotional pump with a description of members of the defense team sitting in a bar drinking a champagne toast, Grace says, “You know what? I’m not a preacher. And I’m not a rabbi. But something is wrong with that, because Caylee is dead. … Somewhere out there tonight, the devil is dancing.”
I look at Grace on this video, and I have no problem understanding why so many hate the media so much… [emphasis added]

I cannot bring you the video, because it belongs to CNN, and they disabled the embed code, but they did post it for you here.
Frankly, Grace’s disrespect for the rule of law disgusts me. In the world of criminal justice she is no different than Glenn Beck in the world of politics. And she is not alone. The Dingbat Duo weighed in too.
…Sarah Palin
Once again we see, with our nation in crisis, President Obama stands by and does idly nothing while an injustice is committed here in this glorious nation of ours. It’s almost strange that the president has not yet made one statement on the issue of the death of young Caylee Anthony. Why the strange silence, Mr. President?
— Sarah Palin…
…Michele Bachmann
BACHMANN: Well, I’ve been visiting all the primary states, and I’ve been talking to people, and people all over the place are asking me, why, in Barack Obama’s America, someone who murders a baby who happens to be white doesn’t get punished. And Sean, I’ve been on the front lines, and I know people are afraid not just of the massive debt created by the Pelosi-Reid government, they’re worried about the Muslim Brotherhood, which has clear ties to terror groups dedicated to creating a worldwide Islamic caliphate, and they’re worried that Eric Holder’s Justice Department isn’t going to do anything about it if the Brotherhood or another group comes for their children… [emphasis original]

Blame Obama! Blame Holder! Blame Muslims! Ladies, and I use the term most loosely, where are your Constitutions?
Correction: The Salon article was a satirical spoof, and I missed it. Palin and Bachmann did not actually make those comments, however representative of their thinking the comments are. Apologies. When I’m wrong, I say so.

…Sarah Palin
Grace is just a 4 foot 11 twerp with a Napoleon complex who, as a former prosecutor, always presumes guilt before innocence. Palin and Bachmann are both batshit crazy loudmouths who will say or do anything to get attention.F_ck all of ’em!
Amen, Pope Jack!
One would hope that Michele “Right-Town-Wrong-John-Wayne” Bachmann would just keep her mouth shut when it comes to commenting on murderers.
You may recall this past week when she launched her presidential campaign in her hometown of Waterloo, IA she erroneously claimed: “John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.”
Except that John Wayne was born in Winterset, IA. But Waterloo does have an infamous “John Wayne” – it’s serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
And this ditz wants to be our President?!? *sigh*
fjaskld
I did a post on that one. 🙂
Jack, you pretty much summed it up. I haven’t followed the Anthony case myself, although a friend of mine filled me in on it for about an hour a week or two ago. She is addicted to watching this stuff, was watching it all day and evening. Big Nancy Grace fan. In looking at all the FB postings after the verdict came in,it seems everyone has the opinion that justice was not served. I have no idea one way or another. But I totally agree that if someone wasn’t on the jury they shouldn’t presume to know the answer. I’ve served on juries and jurors are usually very careful to stick to the law and the truth as they have been presented it. If they were unable to convict and the woman was guilty then it means there was not enough evidence or the case was not made beyond a reasonable doubt. I have faith in the justice system. It’s better to let off a few guilty people than to ever convict an innocent one.
Mimi, I completely agree. When the jury system fails, the most common reason is that they were not allowed to hear all the evidence.
The whole mess is right up MB’s alley and Palin has had plenty of time to take it all in! What else are they to do between soaps? However Florida isn’t a far shot from Alaska or Minnesota – once again they complain about themselves.
Lee, please note my correction.
Look more closely at the Salon piece. It’s a spoof. Those comments by Palin, Bachmann and the others in the piece aren’t real, although it’s scary that reasonable people could think they were.
Thank you Rick. As soon as I saw youe comment, I reread the article and posted a correction.
The case was not proved ; Case over; Nancy Grace is more and more shrew like — Palin and Bachmann are both satirical pieces themselves-
Time to move on
Good description.
Good idea.
That woman reminds me of my first three ex-wives! (the things I didn’t like about them) 👿
No wonder you’re still not all there. 😉
I didnt’ follow it because of the horror of any child being hurt like that. I don’t understand people who hang on every detail of such a gruesome case. It gives me nightmares and makes me deeply sad for society that people would even watch such a thing. Another thing people don’t understand is that these trials being televised in detail and with copious commentary also give people with similar predilections a play by play book for copycat crimes. Just because we can televise the gore and the intrigue doesn’t mean we should. Freedom of speech should at least include discretion and common decency.
Blue, I agree. I believe that all information relating to criminal trials should be gagged until after the verdict is in.
Just because DINO Obama and the rest of the DINOs in Congress don’t act like total loons, doesn’t mean they are reasonable people. The DINOs are just as bad for America because they only represent their Gilded Fascist Elite leaders, and not “We the People”.
Next year during the Democratic Primaries, vote out all DINOs, especially DINO Obama.
Vote only for Progressives, because voting for the lesser of the two loons (DINO vs. Republican), still makes you a loon too!
Kevin, your comment has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion.
The Republican party appreciates your support.
You all do realize that the author of the Salon.com piece states in the article that he totally made up these quotes – that you insert here as fact about Palin/Bachmann.
Losers.
Read the rules Aaron. The next time you insult anyone here, you are done here.
Also, had you actually taken the time to read, you would see that I corrected my mistake hours before you posted your comment. Thanks for nothing.
They don’t have any. But that verdict was a sin. 😯
I can’t comment on that.
