In the 2011 disastrous budget negotiations, Republican duplicity focused attention more on abortion than on budget, and nobody fully knows what’s actually in it.  It was a cave-in of monumental proportions slashing $6.5 billion more (over time) than the Republicans’ original starting point, $32 billion.  At the risk of making your eyes roll back in your heads, here’s what we know so far about the departments taking the biggest hits.

14budget2011Lawmakers and the White House have come to an agreement on the federal budget for fiscal 2011. The bill, which contains roughly $38 billion in cuts, means slashes in spending for a number of government departments and agencies…

…The House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) has released a summary of the continuing resolution that would keep the budget funded through September 2011, as well as a list of the key cuts that would be implemented. The original bill text has also been released

What I’ve done here is listed the departments only.  For even more mind numbing detail, go to the four links at the begging, or click through to the original article, where the author has detailed the cuts in each department.

Also, almost all of the $38.5 billion in cuts are spread over many years.  What this monstrosity will actually save in the remainder of fiscal 2011 is $352 million.

  1. My understanding is that the total amount of cuts this Republican president agreed to over the past 7 months was closer to 80 billion???

    • It is mark, but it’s the combined value over several years. I was ahead of the crowd with the actual figure, but mow it’s all over the press,

  2. The last sentence may be a clue…while the total amount sounds like a lot, what ill ACTUALLY get slashed when the time comes may be a different number. I don’t expect a lot of Republicans to be re elected next go around! Hope I’m right! Grandma can’t live well on Tea alone!

  3. The cuts in these programs was merely a power play which doesn’t sit well with most Americans.

  4. Ok, I heard $39 billion, but if it is spread over a number of years, that’s not too bad. Thank you TC for posting this – I have not heard what’s in and what’s out. $352M is a drop in the bucket for fiscal 2011. The government deals in billions, and Boner promised a $100B in cuts for this year. And I think everyone was equally hit. There will be some layoffs but not a lot. So Boner lost and he lost big. I’m waiting for what Congress will accept and how much Reid will give away, because frankly, I don’t trust that man.
