Obama’s Kenyan Upbringing

I often hear pundits refer to Mike Huckabee as the moral Republican, the honest compassionate conservative who would not stoop to playing the disinformation game that has become the hallmark of Republican campaigns.  I you actually believe that, it’s time to come up for air.  You won’t find any honest compassionate conservatives among the Republican presidential hopefuls, and Huckabee is a liar!

2huckabee"The Steve Malzberg Show" is the type of radio program that any Republican looking to run for president or sell books (or both) pretty much has to appear on.

So it wasn’t surprising that Mike Huckabee, who is peddling a new book while flirting with a White House bid, called in on Monday afternoon. Nor was it surprising that Malzberg,  who doubles [propaganda delinked]as a columnist for the far-right site Newsmax, eventually brought the conversation around to his doubts over whether President Obama is, in fact, legally qualified to serve as president.  What is surprising — maybe even shocking — is how Huckabee handled this.

After accusing Obama of failing to produce adequate records about his own education, health and birth, Malzberg asked Huckabee, "Don’t you think we deserve to know more about this man?" To which the former Arkansas governor replied:

I would love to know more. What I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American.

The information about Obama that Huckabee finds so "troubling," of course, is totally and completely baseless. The president did not grow up in Kenya, or anywhere near it. He spent most of his youth in Hawaii, with a four-year detour in Indonesia between 1967 and 1971. There was no correction from Malzberg. Huckabee then went on to deride Obama for returning a bust of Winston Churchill to Britain — an action, he noted, that makes perfect sense when you consider that Obama grew up in Kenya, "hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who, uh, persecuted his grandfather."… [emphasis added]

The excuse, delivered by a spokesman, because Huckabee lacks the integrity to face the issue himself, is that Huckabee simply misspoke.  Bull!  Huckabee’s use of the lie to support his positions exceeded simple misspeaking as this analysis by Lawrence O’Donnell demonstrates.

On the off chance that Huckabee was simply mistaken, he should not be President because he’s too stupid for the job.  Don’t forget what the last idiot in the White House did.  In the more likely scenario that Huckabee is just another hateful Republican liar, he should not be president for that reason.

  1. Nice job of unmasking the liar who poses as “the nice guy.” Have to wonder if it’s possible to succeed as a national leader and still maintain moral values.

  2. The disgusting thing is that Huck is/was, whatever, supposed to be a “Christian” minister. Well, so much for your Christians. Lies, hate and deceit.

    • Charles, that’s not true of authentic Christians. The Republican right are pseudo-Christians, blaspheming the name of God to justify hate, greed, violence and injustice.

  3. What an opportunistic lying bastard he is!

  4. Huck – Lying by say that Pres. Obama “grew up in Kenya” once is a flue; saying it twice is a coincidence – but saying it three times is a Pattern!

  5. I had actually seen him on a previous televised interview, where he grudgingly admitted Obama was a U.S. citizen. I think he thought he could get away with a radio interview without getting caught! His office says he meant to say Indonesia, no he didn’t. He said he had a Kenyan father, and a Kenyan grandfather and that he was obviously influenced by Mau Mau’s. Mau Mau origins are not Indonesian, but Kenyan. He was pandering to the Right Wing Crazies for their votes! You’ll never be a real President Pinocchio!

    • Welcome Sam. 🙂

Right. I doubt that he would bring it up, but when the host did, and knowing that the radio audience was a loony tunes collection, he could not resist pandering to their hatred.

  6. How lame is sending one of your lackeys out to say that you misspoke. If he does run, I’m gonna say “to to the tape” about him lying about where Obama grew up. He knows damn well it wasn’t Kenya. What an idiot. 🙄

  7. I yearn for the days when political conservatives displayed at least the modicum of integrity that the politicians on the other side of the aisle exhibit. Hence, I applaud George Will and others for denouncing this move.
