If Comcast gets NBC, what would happen to the few rational voices remaining in broadcast news, like Maddow, Olbermann and Shultz?  Here we may have a hint of what will be:

comcast-nbc Comcast is fighting its way through a battle to acquire NBC and related assets (including MSNBC) without being deemed a monopoly (which they are, and should be barred from owning NBC). For a preview of how dangerous it is to have one corporation control access to the Internet and cable TV, have a look at their new joint venture: RightNetwork. [Teabuggery delinked]

Check out the slick ads, the Kelsey Grammer intro, and please have a look at their debut reality series called "Running".

What isn’t apparent at first blush becomes apparent while watching the promo. They call it a reality show, but it’s really just a big teabagger campaign ad wrapped up in a half-hour broadcast and packaged for the web, mobile and cable broadcast.

They have a slick little "lookbook" you can download (PDF) for an overview of what they’re about. Nice piece of marketing literature. They’re marketing themselves as the "anywhere, anytime" network for "engaged people".

On television, through partners including Comcast, RightNetwork delivers programming on demand that enables our audience to watch what they want, when they want. Everything Right, at the click of a remote. the lineup focuses on entertainment with pro-America, pro-business, pro-military sensibilities — compelling content that inspires action, invites a response, and influences the national conversation.

There’s this quote from Ed Snider, Chairman of Comcast-Spectacor:

We’re creating a welcome place for millions and millions of Americans who’ve been looking for an entertainment network and media channel that reflects their point-of-view. Rightnetwork will be the perfect platform to entertain, inform and Connect with the American majority about what’s right in the world.

When they launch, they’ll have lots of content, since they’ve been embedded with the Tea Party Express for its tour across the country. The YouTube channel has video from key tea party locations… [emphasis original]

Here’s a brief clip of what we can expect.

How would you like to get this Teabuggery instead of Rachel, Keith or Ed?

  1. I have a bad feeling about this. Bad because there’s no doubt in my mind that Comcast will get what they want. I have Basic Cable which means I can get Fox (what a thrill) and local news but I can’t get MSNBC or something comparable. It’s all about control.

  2. OMG – that is scary. I am soooo glad I dumped Comcrap so I’m not feeding this monster. Isn’t Faux News enough?

    • In my building, it’s Comcast or nothing. A boycott would not get enough support to be effective. Our only hope is Congress.

  3. Don’t let anybody bull shit you. This ploy is for all the marbles and after getting raped for years by the Right I’m beginning to get pissed off at our side for not seeing the obvious.

This is probably going to happen as we have lost what little control there may have been. They get this game over that’s all there is to it.

You just watch-it may take a while but Grayson will be taken to the back room just like Kuccinch was and given the “or else” treatment.

This will be a summer filled with even worse lies from the mouths of extreme right wing haters who are running for office across the country fueled by unlimited contributions.

    Just watch.

  4. This is a very ominous development for lovers of sanity, truth, and non-corporate free speech. Fox is bad enough, but the idea of a sister network that is even worse gobbling up MSNBC? It is a terrifyingly horrendous thought!

  5. Thanks for the info, Tomcat. I didn’t realize it was this bad….my husband knew something about it, though. We are moving to Knoxville, TN and it’s Comcast city. We’ll go back to Dish or some combination. I’m so sick and tired of the Right bitching about THEIR rights being taken away…what about the OTHER majority’s rights?

  6. I too and sick of them whining about their rats. Here in Ol’Virginny, our illustrious guvahnah is about to cut state funding to local PBS affiliates. What a bunch of used douchebags.

  7. Of course, they’ll need a corporate logo for their new venture.

I’ll suggest a “Chicken Hawk, in honor of Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck,Cheney, Kelsey Grammar, and all other s willing to cheer lead while everyday more American servicemen and women return to America wounded or dead.

That video’s view of the REAL America was about as accurate as Oliver Stone’s version of the Kennedy assassination (a GREAT movie, but total BS).

  8. At first when I heard Comcast was coming I thought,Good maybe they’ll have enough money to compete with Murdoch aka Fox. I was so wrong. Sounds like a bigger, badder, lunacy network. I’ve been saying for years to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. As many of you know it was killed under Reagan. Even Fox would have to balance out their programs. Somebody who is a somebody has to work this idea. What’s are choices?

    • Tim, I wish I knew of a choice. MSNBC is fair. They range from conservative to progressive viewpoints. They are alone in that… and endangred.

  9. TC….check out Olbermann’s WORST PERSONS from April 19. Leading off is the RIGHT NETWORK-COMCAST “connection”.

I used quotations because KO said (his words) Comcast “doesn’t have a damn thing to do” with Right Network. A COMCAST spokesperson said “we have no partnership with this venture”.
