I’m waiting for Amazon Prime Now to deliver groceries between 8:00 and 9:00 this morning.  Tomorrow I have an appointment that will tie me up all morning, so please expect no more than a Personal Update or an Open Thread.

The groceries came, and I have put them away, so I’ll publish early and try to enjoy a restful afternoon.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 7:29 (average 8:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): The real story about ICE

Isn’t it time to put ICE on ice? RESIST!!

From CNN: North Korea is willing to talk to the United States about giving up its nuclear weapons, South Korea said Tuesday, in a remarkable development that followed unprecedented meetings in Pyongyang.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has also agreed to refrain from conducting nuclear and missile tests while engaging in dialogue with South Korea, Seoul’s national security chief Chung Eui-yong said after returning from talks with Kim.

Chung said Pyongyang expressed willingness to talk to the United States "in an open-ended dialogue to discuss the issue of denuclearization and to normalize relations with North Korea."

North Korea clarified that it had no reason to retain nuclear weapons if "the military threat to North Korea is resolved" and the country’s security can be guaranteed, Chung said.

It’s a startling statement from a nation that only months ago declared it could wipe the United States off the face of the Earth.

Poor widdle Donnie Tiny Hands, etc.! If the peace efforts he and his Republican Reich tried to prevent bear fruit, he may not get to play with his button and make the world go BOOM. RESIST!!

From DC Report: When our children are massacred we get “thoughts and prayers” from members of Congress instead of action to save lives.

But when it comes to their own safety, lawmakers act swiftly–and at our expense.

The House passed a resolution allowing them to use our tax dollars to buy bulletproof vests. And that’s not all. They can use their expense accounts to pay for security guards at official events or just to hang out in their district offices.

They can even use the money to install bulletproof glass in their district offices, although that has to be embedded in the rent, not paid for separately. One might read that provision as the first move on a slippery slope toward hiding security expenses.

So, is there a pressing need for this use of taxpayer dollars to protect our lawmakers from people with guns hell-bent on murder?

David Cay Johnston is spot on. Click through for more. Frankly, I think anywhere a Republican Politician is appearing should be an Open Carry zone, until they protect the children. RESIST!!

  1. ICE: Inhuman, Cold-hearted, Evil

North Korea willing to talk No Nukes? Somebody pinch me! I admit that I am wary, but if this leads to better relations between not just the USA and North Korea, but also the two Koreas, let us all hope for the best. Dare I hope to live to see the Koreas reunited like Germany?

Congress feeling a need for armed guards and bulletproof windows and vests? That speaks volumes.

    Cartoon: Ain’t that the truth.

  2. MM: Horrible, horrible, and horrible!!! ICE should go to jail for these atrocities!!!

CNN: Very encouraging news from N & S Korea. 2 leaders turning the discord from negative to positive. dt would have crossed his arms, and pouted about it.

DCR: Oh yeah. Forget those children who died, and thinking of the families who cherish their memory every single day for the rest of their lives. Which by the way…. the taxpayer money should have gone to those families, not to these asshats. They don’t deserve them!!

Cartoon: Have mercy on us all !!!

It’s a gorgeous day here, I did my early voting by mail, however, I did honk for BETO at the courthouse, and got a text from him (reminding me to vote..). I’m for turning TX blue too!!! Hope that you have a good rest of your day, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 6:57 Well, I’m not surprised the average is so high, when all the pieces look alike!

New Republican strategy to win elections: don’t hold them (petition)

ICE – When you use a patriarchal hierarchy instead of having moral standards, this is what happens. Anyone below you on the ladder is less human than you. If you go down more than a step, they start to be not human at all. That is how they see people, and that is how they treat people. And that, my friends, is the Republican way.

CNN – Well, South Korea can certainly show us how it’s done. Diplomacy, I mean. Boss Tweet probably can’t even pronounce it, let alone understand what it means. Bur don’t count him out yet – he could still mess it up.

DCR – “So, is there a pressing need for this use of taxpayer dollars to protect our lawmakers from people with guns hell-bent on murder?” I suspect, if their consciences are so heavy they think this is necessary, that a pressing need may surface as they get found out. But it’s still not justified. No protection for children, no protection for lawmakers, I say.

    Cartoon – Yup.

  4. MMC: This is the heart of the GOPIGS!  I can just see Hitler smiling in the wings!
CNN: This sounds truly remarkable, but we’ll have to wait to see what develops; wait to see how Donny tries to sabotage the talks;  wait to see how he takes credit for scaring N.K. into the talks…if they go well.
DC Report: So, what else is new?  Bunch of scum!

  5. MM: Drumpf of course lied when he said that only illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds would be targeted by ICE. This clip show that couldn’t be further from the truth. Many working as ICE agents do not seem to be driven by a personal need to do a job well, but by hatred and bias and a chance to act out at defenceless people. The way they inhumanly treat the weakest of these harmless people shows what type of people they are and is all too reminiscent of The Gestapo. Drumpf has given the worst of the worst carte blanche to work under the cover of a federal agency.

CNN: The negotiating between North and South Korea has been carried out without interference of the USA and has reached a point that has never been reached before. This must have been such a terrible slap in the face of Drumpf and Pence, who thought they could hold the upper hand by rudely ignoring North Korea at the Olympics. I hate to think what the Whit House will come up with to make these North-South talks go off the rail again, but I’m sure they’ll do anything to have talks fail and keep their scapegoat in North Korea while Drumpf still has allies who promised to stand by him there.

DCR: What are you complaining about? Those same legislators first offered all teachers to arm themselves in class so they could protect their students, so why can’t they have “a little protection” too? In their minds they are just as innocent as any of those students, but of course need far better protection because their lives are so much worth more and therefore much more in need to have militia with the right to bear an AK-15 prevented from having a lot of shots at them. And I’m sure those who are NRA members get a discount on their bulletproof vests. Next step is of course the bill that allows them concealed carry in Congress.

Cartoon: Against better judgement I still hope this won’t come true.
