The the come that Bernie needs more delegates than the remaining states have, so the only way he can now win the nomination is to convince Superdelegates to switch.  That is not likely, because they are almost all either DNC members, who Bernie has sued, or Democratic Senators, Reps, and Governors.  Hillary has raised funds for all their reelections, while Bernie has done so for only four.  You may think I’m saying Bernie has lost.  I know Bernie has won,  because he has moved the party to the left, and that even includes Hillary.

For months during the Democratic presidential nominating contest, Hillary Clinton has resisted calls from Senator Bernie Sanders to back a single-payer health system, arguing that the fight for government-run health care was a wrenching legislative battle that had already been lost.

But as she tries to clinch the nomination, Mrs. Clinton is moving to the left on health care and this week took a significant step in her opponent’s direction, suggesting she would like to give people the option to buy into Medicare.

“I’m also in favor of what’s called the public option, so that people can buy into Medicare at a certain age,” Mrs. Clinton said on Monday at a campaign event in Virginia.

Mr. Sanders calls his single-payer health care plan “Medicare for all.” What Mrs. Clinton proposed was a sort of Medicare for more.

The Medicare program covers Americans once they reach 65. Beneficiaries pay premiums to help cover the cost of their coverage, but the government pays the bulk of the bill. Mrs. Clinton’s suggestion was that perhaps younger Americans, “people 55 or 50 and up,” could voluntarily pay to join the program.

She made the remarks as she continues to face a determined challenge on the left from Mr. Sanders, forcing her to essentially fight a two-front war as she seeks to turn her attention to Donald J. Trump and the general election. While Mr. Sanders trails by a substantial number of delegates, his effect continues to be felt in the race as he pressures Mrs. Clinton to adopt more progressive positions… [emphasis added]

Thank you Bernie!

Bernie has also moved Hillary to the left on Social Security (making the rich pay on more of their income and raising benefits) and TPP (opposing it)

  1. And this is why, if he isn't President, we need him in the Senate.  But I'm preaching to the choir.

  2. I still don't trust Clinton to stay left with how the DNC is rigging the committees at the convention.

  3. SS and Medicare is very important for all of us.

    Good for Bernie!!

  4. Amen! Joanne?.

    Blue, Blue, Blue!

Thank you, Bernie! Thank you, Bernie!!!!

  5. I agree with jla. If Hillary is elected, she will return to her old stance, being pragmatic about it all.  She has moved to the left because Bernie has challenged her to do it.   I will vote Blue, no matter which gets the nominaton, but I prefer Bernie.

  6. Way to go, Bernie! Keep jabbing her to the left! But I agree with Edie and jla. She could be just putting on a front to get Bernie voters to come to her side. I don't know! This is so SCARY!

Just wanted to say howdy, TC. Take care!

  7. I expected Hillary to be forced to adopt more progressive positions by Bernie when he put in a bid for the Democratic nomination, but I never expected there would be so many points on het agenda she shifted on. Trevor Noah once said on the Daily Show that she was the candidate that ran a campaign entirely based on ideas stolen from someone else (Bernie). Now she's added two more. Bernie has been far more successful than she'd ever thought and she had to take on many of his ideas to stay ahead. In the end, If and when she wins the nomination, that will only have been a good thing to have happened provided she sticks to these adopted points. If she waters them down to much just to have them accepted by Republicans in Congress, she may end up with nothing but riots in the streets.

  8. It's true, Bernie has pulled Clinton to the left.  But I tend to agree with JL.  How long will she stay there?  Leopards don't change their spots.  It is up to progressives to hold her feet to the fire to bring lasting change.

    • I know you kind of already said this … but she will stay to the left just as long as Bernie in the Senate, and we his supporters all over the country, Push, push, push her to stay lefy.So be on the alert for petitions, and don't just sign them, but bring them here so we all can.  And start right out with petitions with suggestions for cabinet members.

BTW, what she has stated she opposes about the TPP is a "lame duck vote."  That is not NECESSARILY the same thing as opposing the TPP.  If we can turn the Senate blue and the house more bluish purple, it might be pretty much the same, but that is a large "if."  SO, sorry, there will be no rest for us.

  9. Thanks all.  The Squatch and JD beat me to my answer.  I agree the Hillary would love to return to her right-center roots.  We need to make her hold on power contingent on representing her progressive constituents.  And we need to make her owe her job to us.  If progressives stay home or write-in Bernie or Jill, we might get Trump, but even if Hillary beats Trump anyway, she will have no incentive to represent us.
