Yesterday, I was overly tired for some reason.  I went to the building community meeting.  They are outlawing window air conditioning Un its, because one fell from a window and barely missed a passer by.  I will have to get a free standing A/C with a tube that vents through a window kit.  ARGH!  Today I have PT, OT and the bath-aide all coming. so I have another busy day on tap.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:46 (Average 5:28).  Top do it click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From HRC: Following the publication this week of a commentary by Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, in which he boasts of being “proud” to lead an institution that sought a waiver from the government so that it could discriminate against transgender people, Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality, released the following statement:

“Mr. Piper’s assertions are despicable, but, sadly, not surprising, given his track record of working with anti-LGBT organizations like the World Congress of Families [GOP Hate delinked]. Piper should be ashamed. Imagine what it feels like to be a young LGBT student at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and hearing the president of your school publicly disparage you in this way. His astonishingly callous response to revelations that he sought the right to discriminate against his own students is not only stomach-turning, but anathema to the role of an educational leader.”

In his piece defending the university’s decision to request an exemption to existing civil rights law in order to discriminate against LGBT students on religious grounds, Piper used the same bigoted and hateful language that is his stock-in-trade: referring to transgender people as a “human fabrication,” and non-discrimination efforts as “misogyny.”

I fully agree with Chad Griffin. All people deserve equal rights.

From Daily Kos: In an explosive new piece, the New York Times reports that Republican Sen.Ted Cruz failed to disclose a six-figure loan from Goldman Sachs, the Wall Street investment bank where his wife Heidi works, that he used to support his successful upset bid for Senate back in 2012. Cruz was required to report the loan (and another similar one from Citibank)—which may have been worth as much as $500,000—in filings with the Federal Elections Commission but never did so.

Instead, he reported putting some $1.2 million in unspecified "personal funds” into his campaign, claiming to the Times several years ago that he and his wife had “liquidated our entire net worth” to support his quest for public office. This turns out to have been a deception, uncovered because Cruz later filed personal financial disclosures with the Senate that detailed the two low-interest loans.

In the face of such blatant criminal activity, Uranus Inspector should be deported to his birth country,

From YouTube (H/T MoveOn):

The Reich on the Right, Ryan’s Republican Reich, is wrong. And as always, the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. Those seven ideas are the core of the Republican Party’s economic agenda.

  1. 4:55 (5:28)  I've heard of Stonewall Jackson, but …

The A/C thing is a pain, but one can understand the reasoning.

HRC – Perhaps this should be read in tandem with Nameless's Friday Fun.  Those all look like "human fabrcations," but all but six of them are for real.  Some people do seem to think they know everything, don't they?

DKos – But – if we deport him – we won't be able to lock him up – and I think I would rather do that.  Permanently.

YouTube – Not all of those ideas are original to Ryan, but he does push them  "Turn Medicaid into block grants" is like the Alabama governor spending $1.8M if Deeowater Horizon recovery money on renovating his beach house.  Give me a break.

  2. HRC: This is wrong on so many levels, he's 'proud' of his discrimination and hatred??? At a religious college too! This man needs to be fired, NOW!!!

DK: So…will there be a upcoming federal investigation for Cruz?? Seems like it should be to me!

Cartoon: This Sunday, NFC Divisional playoff game between the Packers and Cardinals, I will be at church, praying fervently.

Busy, busy day for you, TC. After all is done, you can relax, and breath a sigh of relief!! Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 4:52  Boring puzzle.  I fell asleep while solving it.

  4. Sorry your to-do list got longer, yet can understand the revised rule.  Nice that they communicated about it in a meeting instead of a poorly worded notice slipped under the door.

Piper dishonors his profession and I'm glad the HRC is ensuring it won't be swept under the rug.

And Cruz went to Harvard…seems he should know how to read and follow the rules better than this.  Also should be Congressional ethics investigation besides DOJ.

I thought you'd use Reich.  Ryan seems to believe that if you keep repeating myths somehow they'll miraculously become true.

Thanks for the reminder about the Superbowl coming up.

  5. Before you decide on your free standing A/C unit, please be sure to check the reviews or better yet, talk to someone with actual experience with the unit you are looking at.  I'm thinking this is probably what we call a portable A/C. We have a few around the house, but decided that we would need to learn to appreciate the Texas summer heat when my husband was laid off a number of years ago. They really ran up our electric bill but probably not any worse than a window unit. We just had to find places to cut back when we went from 2 incomes to 1.

The hose that vents out the window vents out heat. Ours is similar to a dryer hose as it is flexible and accordion like where you can pull it out longer or scrunch it up to make it shorter. I recommend keeping it as short as possible as it radiates heat.  The more surface area the more heat.  There is also a bucket that collects condensation inside the unit.  That bucket has to be emptied when full. Otherwise the unit stops working.  Ours are more than 6 years old and maybe some of the problems have been resolved since then but we have had a problem with the units leaking. Meaning, wet floor/ carpet.

Other than that, it's kind of like living with R2D2. Well, not as big and not as talkative.

I really don't want to be a wet blanket about it but I do want you to look at it with your eyes open so that you get one that doesn't have the leakage problem. I really hope it works out for you and your neighbors.

  6. HRC: Watch this clown wind up being outed as just the newest version of J. Edgar Hoover, gay-basher; Jackass!

DK: Cruz is self-destructing, his Karma catching up to him.  See my new posting on Teddy boy, at C2: http://www.care2.com/news/member/565542931/3946112

  7. Bittersweet WRT Super Bowl …

Bitter: Because I'm old enough to remember Super Bowl I (Of course back then they weren'tn using Roman  numerals)

Sweet: Because I'm old enough to remember Super Bowl I

(Full Disclosre: Back then – and still now – I was pretty much a Chicago Bears fan, but in that game I rooted for the Chiefs because of family in KCMO … who knew, I was just a lad of 18 years)

  8. I hope the new AC unit isn't really expensive.

HRC:  Isn't this a Methodist school?  I thought they were more liberal than some of the other churches.  I know they have women pastors.  However, which ever religion owns it, they should not be given an exemption from civil rights laws, and this man has no business being its President.  Trans genders have enough discrimination all ready, they should at least expect fairness at a university.

Daily Kos:  Cruz should probably be find or prosecuted for false reports.  I doubt Lynn wants him back in her country.

Reich:  Of course Ryan is wrong, but he is in lockstep with the current Republican Ideology.  Didn't he rely on Social Security benefits as a child?  Guess it was different for him to have help.

Cartoon:  I vaguely remember the first Super Bowl.  I thought it was a flash in the pan.  Shows how much I know about football.

Glad to have you back, TC.

  9. No wonder the winds are bringing a seet smell northward . . . you had another bath!  Congratulations!  I know a shower makes me feel human, even more alert, so I assume it does the same for you.  Don't forget to keep up with your exercises.  They really help.

Puzzle — 2:49  No meat in this one Puddy Tat, and those poppy seeds . . .

HRC — There's that GMO Christianity again!  These GMO Christians cry foul because they believe they are being discriminated against, or persecuted as they call it, but are totally fine with discriminating against the LGBTQ community.  Hypocrites!

Daily Kos — 1st, since he has failed to disclose the debts to the FEC, he should be fully investigated and criminally charged.  2nd, he should be declared ineligible to run for POTUS, or even dog catcher.  3rd, the US has already accepted him as a full US citizen so the POS is all yours!  He is ineligible for deportation to Canada.

YouTube — Another Republican POS!  Isn't it interesting that Ryan had social benefits after his father died.  Ayn Rand, his goddess, relied on social benefits as did Ben Carson.  A bunch of hypocrites . . . I've got mine, screw you!

Cartoon — Although I was 15 and in grade 10, my stepfather was not into football nor was I (other than to play with the neighbourhood boys — I was quarterback) so it meant nothing.  Even now I don't watch it . . . mind, I don't have television anyway.

  10. Thanks all.  Hugs!!

  11. Too late for me to make a serious comment on the AC policy – wouldn't having them properly secured by a professional and accredited company be the less costlier and less wasteful option? – so I guess you'll have to spend extra money and time on the replacement. What a shame.
