A gathering of vultures

Last night, Republican candidates for president faced off in a debate on the economy.  They were long on blame, but offered absolutely nothing new to help create jobs.  Instead they backed the well-worn and thoroughly debunked supply side nonsense and plans to raise taxes on the poor to provide more benefits for the rich.

12vulturesThe government is the problem. That was the message Tuesday night as the eight Republican presidential hopefuls clamored to blame Washington for the nation’s economic ills. In turn, they pointed fingers at President Obama, the Federal Reserve and the government generally as the cause of the nation’s economic collapse…

…Asked what his plan would be to jump-start the economy and reverse Washington’s paralysis, Perry said he would focus on domestic energy resources…

…Meanwhile, Cain — who for the first time took the stage as a serious contender for the party’s nomination — talked about his “9-9-9” plan to gut the federal tax code and said he would reduce the federal debt…

…Romney cast himself as the most authoritative candidate on the economy, citing his business know-how and 25 years of experience in the private sector to say he will make the difficult decisions necessary to revive the economy…

…Some second-tier hopefuls seeking to break out of the pack, namely Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and former House speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), were the most critical of the government’s size and role…

…Former senator Rick Santorum (Pa.) said he would repeal “every regulation” the Obama administration has put into law…

…The debate’s opening hour was notable for the lack of sniping between the candidates, although former Utah governor Jon Huntsman Jr. took a swipe at Cain, a former chief executive of Godfather’s Pizza. Of his “9-9-9” plan, Huntsman said: “I thought it was a catchy phrase when I first heard it. I thought it was the price of a pizza.”…

There was another candidate, but he never mattered and never will.

Ed Schultz agreed that it was all talk and no substance.

I think they gave Cain more attention than he deserves, but one thing remained clear.  Republicans do NOT represent you.

  1. They are all grasping at straws to save them from the quicksand into which they are sinking.

  2. I wish they would all just go to hell instead of making it on earth where real people have to live.

  3. Herman Cain’s “999 Plan” is in trouble when even Michele “A-Few-Fries-Short-of-a-Happy-Meal” Bachmann notes that by turning it upside down “The devil’s in the details.”

    • Bingo, Nameless ❗

    • I’d be willing to bet that Bachmann did not come up with” The Devil’s in the Details”.  She’s not sharp enough to come up with a remark like that one.  I could in a New York minute she’s doesn’t have a sense of humor.

I think there is two side’s to Herman Cain when he’s addressing the Republican’s. He’s tapping into the Street Smart working family kind of values it kind of sounds like rapper or ghetto talk. He almost sounds like a thug.

Then, when he talk with the RICH republican’s he talk’s Slang only when his putting the Working Class down.  It’s really strange. It’s like the guy is talking out of both sides of his mouth. It’s really weird I think.  I’m glad I’m a DEMOCRAT!

      • Welcome Ray. 🙂

Those are interesting observations.  You have Batshit B dead to rights.  I said something similar about Cain.  He adopts mannerisms that are non-threatening to white racists.

  4. Great summary, TomCat! You’re right—these idiots only represent millionaires. Huntsman, the only one with any foreign policy experience, doesn’t stand a chance, and Romney, the true front runner, has now surrounded himself with Bush-era neocons for his foreign policy experts. And they’re ALL bankrupt when it comes to practical solutions for the economy!

  5. The frightening thing is that one of these idiots will get the nomination.

  6. “The devil’s in the details.”

    Right said. It’s true.

  7. Since they all agree that govt. is the problem and should be smaller, I’m surprised that any of them would want the job. They should do their patriotic duty and not run….n’est pas?

  8. The title of the article is so apt.  The Republican candidates are acting like vultures, circling their pray, the American people, ready to drop down and pick their bones clean.  In the parts of the debate I heard, they did nothing to articulate their economic plans except maybe Perry who spoke only of oil as if nothing else mattered, and Cain who is still spouting his 999 plan even though it has been shown to be drivel.  And Bachmann, what an airhead with her fundamentalist Christian retort to Cain’s 999 plan — just turn it upside down “The devil’s in the details.”  Somebody please help that woman off the stage!

I’m not American so I can’t vote.  But if I could, I’d be running in the other direction from these vultures.

  9. Revelation 18:23,  And the light of a lamp shall never shine in you any longer.  And the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall never be heard in you any more.  For your merchants were the great ones of the earth, for by your magic arts all the nations were led astray.   Cain’s 999 plan is a failure for lack of resources.  Why then muse with it other than to clown around with  666?   Am I the only one who sees republicans as well as democrats as wolves in sheep’s clothing?

    • Welcome Jerry. 🙂

I have to disagree with you, because making Republicans and Democrats is false.  It is true of all the Republicans, but not all the Democrats.  Look at the CPC.
