Yesterday, the remaining snow got down to under an inch where it remained, but my back yard still looked blanketed. Today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week and sunny, and I really wasn’t expecting it to be gone before today anyway. I can’t keep my fingers crossed because it’s too hard to type that way, but I’m hoping. Also, I apologize to Dr. Keith Knight for including only the last third of his cartoon. But I do feel it stands alone just fine. Finally, I have managed to find a poem by Renee Nicole Good which won a prize. Here’s the link.

The Root newsletter was really hot yesterday. I bumped one until tomorrow. This one is most remarkable for the amount of truth revealed to Pastor Callaghan (who has the kind of courage every decent person should have.) This is far more revealing than their constant, and utterly transparent, lies. It probably won’t get the attention it deserves because no blood was spilled – but everyone in the US should know it.

Robert Reich is not in Minneapolis, but he quotes in full a letter from a former student who is. Don’t write Minneapolis off. There are too many people there who have “miles and miles and miles of heart” (quote from the musical Damn Yankees.)

I might refer to adding insult to injury – but this – from The New Republic – is bigger than that. It’s more like “We might not be able to take your life, but we can definitely ruin it.”

Granted that this is 17 minutes long. But it should be seen by every American over the age of 18 – and maybe younger (And there are more where this came from.)

Yesterday was the first Monday in October, and that means it was the beginning of the current term for the Supreme Court of the United States. If, like most of us,you pay attention to this Court when it makes a decision which will affect you or someone you care about (and I admit that describes me), this may be a good time to dig a little deeper. Jotce Vance is not on the Supreme Court (more’s the pity for us, though she is probably happy she isn’t), but she knows more about it than most people do.) You can if you wishm read he “The Week Ahead” column for this week I guarantee you will learn something.

People who love horses will be interested in these two companion stories. I can’t speak for other states, but, at least in Colorado, no horses are being killed in the interest of reducing equine crowding. And I can’t say what the horses are thinking, but the girls in this program must feel like they are in heaven. I haven’t been on the back of a horse for at least 50 years now, and I know myself better than to try it now, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling.

I don’t know what else one would expect from a Trump** nominee. But I also don’t know what the process is to fire an Inspector General. If it’s as hard as it is to fire a Postmaster General, that would explain why he hasn’t been fired. We can at least hope that this report from POGO will generate some action.

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
