It’s another busy day here in the CatBox as grocery shopping on Amazon Prime Now is very time consuming.  Wendy’s late arrival threw off my schedule, but I was more sorry she felt ill than inconvenienced.  She just texted me that she is feeling better today.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Inequality Media Channel): Trump’s Brand is Ayn Rand

Like I’ve said from the beginning, Rump Dump Trump is not an aberration from the Republican Reich. He’s a reflection of it. Our Reich (Robert) is better. RESIST!!

From NY Times: When Representative Daniel Lipinski, a conservative-leaning Democrat and scion of Chicago’s political machine, agreed to one joint appearance last month with his liberal primary challenger, the divide in the Democratic Party was evident in the audience that showed up.

Mr. Lipinski’s outnumbered supporters were the diminished lunch-pail Democrats that once dominated his Southside district. Those of his rival, Marie Newman, came from the party’s ascendant coalition — young progressives and women like Elizabeth Layden, a Patagonia-clad teacher who explained her opposition to Mr. Lipinski in blunt terms.

“Because he’s a dinosaur, ’cause he’s a phony, ’cause he’s a Republican who claims to be a Democrat,” said Ms. Layden, 49, who has been making phone calls and knocking on doors to help unseat Mr. Lipinski, a seven-term House member, in the primary race this month. “Hello, women’s rights, and hello, my reproductive rights. Get out of my uterus.”

As the midterm election season gets underway with races in Texas on Tuesday and Illinois on March 20, contests like this one illustrate the turmoil of the Trump-era Democratic Party. Democrats need to pick up 24 seats to take back control of the House and are hoping a surge of grass-roots energy, activism and fund-raising at levels unseen since the rise of Barack Obama can help play a crucial role.

Yet the backlash to President Trump’s divisive politics has also fueled a demand by the party’s progressive wing for ideological purity and more diverse representation, a tension that could reshape what it means to be a Democrat.

“This is part of the reason Donald Trump won,” Mr. Lipinski said in an interview, adding, “Democrats have chased people out of the party.”

Click through for an interesting read. I believe that the Democrats need to lean toward progressive ideological purity, but if Democratic voters choose a moderate, or even a DINO, over a progressive in the primaries, then we should support the voters’ choice.  The worst DINO is far better than the best Republican.  RESIST!!

From Alternet: Former MI6 spy Christopher Steele has reportedly told special counsel Robert Mueller that he believes the Russian government directly intervened to block President Donald Trump from appointing Mitt Romney as his secretary of state.

In a New Yorker profile of Steele published Monday, reporter Jane Mayer writes that Steele — who authored the infamous Fusion GPS dossier alleging deep ties between President Donald Trump and the Russian government — wrote a memo in late 2016 claiming that Russia worked to stop then-President elect Trump from making noted Russia hawk Romney his chief diplomat.

“This memo, which did not surface publicly with the others, is shorter than the rest, and is based on one source, described as ‘a senior Russian official,’” writes Mayer. “The official said that he was merely relaying talk circulating in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but what he’d heard was astonishing: people were saying that the Kremlin had intervened to block Trump’s initial choice for Secretary of State, Mitt Romney.”

He with the tiny hands, etc. would never disobey the man with the key to the pee tapes and a ton of other dirt. RESIST!!

A Pile of Crapo

Posted by at 8:55 am  Politics

Last week Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten met with legislators, listened to suggestion from both sides, and frequently encouraged and agreed with Democrats.  He promised full support for fast action to keep guns out of the wrong hands.  Of course none of it was real.  He know that his faithful allies, like Bought Bitch Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would take that common sense gun control, and substitute a pile of Crapo.

0304DoddFrank

Wouldn’t you think that after the “Valentine day massacre” at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, government officials would be chomping at the bit to discuss gun control? This would be true if we were talking about Australia, England, Germany or any other civilized country, and not the United States. Here, the Republican Party is being held hostage by the NRA and other lobbying groups.

As reported by CNN, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Thursday that the Senate will turn to a banking bill next week, dashing the hopes of many Senators in both parties that the Senate would be able to pass gun legislation quickly in the wake of the mass shooting. Asked if there will be a way forward on guns next week, McConnell replied, “No, we’re going to the Crapo bill next week.” He was referring to the proposal inked by the Idaho Senator Mike Crapo which would repeal the Dodd-Frank Act implemented by President Obama.

The Dodd-Frank Act is the federal law that places regulations on the financial industry in the hands of the government. This process would limit risk by enforcing transparency and accountability. This would decrease the risk of another recession like we experienced during the Bush presidency. Republican critics say the 2010 Dodd-Frank law went too far and curbs banks’ ability to lend, while many Democrats say it provides critical protections for consumers and taxpayers. Crapo’s bill would ease restrictions on small banks and credit unions, but also includes a number of provisions beneficial to all but the largest U.S. banks… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <The Palmer Report>

Dodd Frank makes sure Banksters carry enough reserves.  It outlaws Bankster Gambling by banning speculation with our money for their own profit. It empowers the SEC to regulate risky derivatives.  It requires Hedge funds to reveal all trades to the SEC.  It oversees credit rating agencies.  It regulates credit cards, loans, and mortgages.  It increases supervision of insurance companies.  And it reforms the Federal Reserve.

In other words, Dodd-Frank addresses the abuses by corporate criminals that caused the Republican Collapse and Recession of 2008.  Allowed to resume those abuses, Banksters could steal more profit, but the end result would probably be another economic collapse and recession.

Allowing Banksters and other corporate criminals to do this is the pile of Crapo that Republicans consider so necessary that they are willing to pay for it with the blood of more murdered students.

It’s a WWWendy w/wings day here at the CatBox, and in addition to fumigating the stinky TomCat, we have several chores, including the dreaded task.   I miss my beloved Orb! Sad smile

I just heard from Wendy, who isn’t feeling well and will be late, so I’m rushing to finish, before she gets here.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

From YouTube (SNL Channel): Presidential Address Cold Open

No wonder Melania likes Alec better, but Alec gave it away. He held up large hands. RESIST!!

From Newsweek: President Donald Trump has made no secret of his admiration for strongmen leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte.

And, according to a tape of closed door remarks Trump made at his Mar-a-Lago estate obtained by CNN, he supports President Xi Xinping of China’s move to extend his power indefinitely. “He’s now president for life,” Trump told Republican donors, after the Chinese Communist party last week moved to alter the constitution to allow Xi to remain in power beyond the two-term limit.

“President for life. And he’s great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll give that a shot some day.” [emphasis added]

Both the Fuhrer and the Republican Party would love that. But they only admit it when they think nobody is listening.  RESIST!!

From NY Times: President Trump warned on Saturday that he would apply higher taxes on imported European cars if the European Union carried through on its threat to retaliate against his proposed stiff new tariffs on steel and aluminum.

“If the E.U. wants to further increase their already massive tariffs and barriers on U.S. companies doing business there, we will simply apply a Tax on their Cars which freely pour into the U.S.,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter [Fool delinked] from Florida, where he was spending part of the weekend. “They make it impossible for our cars (and more) to sell there. Big trade imbalance!”

It was the latest indication that Mr. Trump, despite pressure from foreign allies and American business leaders, is standing by his decision to impose a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum imports from all countries. The action is likely to be signed this coming week.

The fool claimed this measure would target China, but he appears to be after the EU and Canada. RESIST!!

It’s that time of week again, and I’m happy to share four fine video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: Giving Hicks Hope

I sure hope Hope never mates with Jared Palin.  The progeny would be hideous!

Never Again MSD

Kudos to David Hogg, Cameron Kasky, and all the MSD kids, who are working so hard to transform their tragedy into a blessing for the rest of us.

Notes to Self

Do you think that any of those walking rectums can actually follow their note, except for Melania lying about Tiny?

New Rule: That’s Not News

Amen Bill! As a blogger, reporting on the pearls is easy. The hard part is finding them among the tons of shit in which they are buried.

I’ve missed Bill in recent weeks.

I’m relieved that I have the start of the month routine behind me, because I have a busy week coming up.  I have an appointment on Wednesday that will interfere with delivery from Store to Door, so I’ll have to use Amazon Prime Now instead.  That’s always complicated.  Then on Friday, I have semi-annual fasting labs for Megan, my PCP.  I better get as much rest as I can over the weekend.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Are Jared Kushner’s Businesses Tied To President Donald Trump Policies?

They’re doing it to pay for 666 5th Ave. And I looked, and behold an orange horse: and his name that sat on him was Trump, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Washington Post Channel): President Trump’s top 5 claims, updated

Barf Bag Alert!!

When Trump is awake and not lying, the Pope is not Catholic, and no bears, anywhere, are shitting in the woods. RESIST!!

From Think Progress: President Donald Trump proposed a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum imports on Thursday. On Friday he further claimed [Fuhrer delinked] that “trade wars are good.”

What the president seemingly fails to understand, of course, is that tariffs are not taxes, and Trump’s attempt to protect American industries in this manner is much more likely to harm American consumers than anything else.

Trump reportedly made his tariff proposal public without first alerting his advisers at the Treasury, State, or Defense Departments. His chief economic adviser, Gary Cohn, adamantly opposes tariff increases and trade wars, complicating things even further.

So Trump is relying, it appears, mainly on his own knowledge to make major shifts in his administration’s economic and infrastructure policies, despite the fact that his understanding of the subject is relatively thin. When Trump talks about the economy, for instance, he touts stock market gains but neglects to mention slower-than-normal job growth, corporations spending very little on bonuses, and stagnant wages, among other problems.

Trump has made plenty of other comments in the past to buff up his own credentials — all of which sound more than a bit awkward now, given his hasty announcement on Friday.

1. He’s a financial genius

“I agree [that I am a financial genius],” Trump tweeted in November 2014, quoting one of his Twitter followers.

I shared one absurd boast from Resident Idiot. Click through for the other fourteen. RESIST!!

Twitler, in his oft-used attempt at distracting us from another God-awful week, took to his Twitter Tweeting – this time putting Alec Baldwin (whose “Saturday Night Live” impersonation of Trump has not only revived his career, but is also spot-on!) in his crosshairs:

But you can’t see that one anymore because Donnie (after someone got around to informing him that’s NOT how you spell “dying” AND it’s A-L-E-C … NOT Alex, you twit) 25-minutes later put up a corrected one.

And Baldwin, relishing the low-hanging fruit offered by Twitler, starts right in:

And like a dog with a bone, won’t let go:

And closes with a nice zinger …

And speaking of Melania – has anyone ever seen her truly happier than when she was with Baldwin?  Look at that smile!  It’s genuine!

Everyday Erinyes #113

Posted by at 12:21 am  Politics

Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage. These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that. Even though there are many more which I can’t include. As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. These roughly translate as “unceasing,” “grudging,” and “vengeful destruction.”

I really could not find anything I wanted to write about this week. In addition to finding issues on which we really need the Furies to inject some sanity, I have also been trying to educate – or at least to find issues that are little known about. Now, there was one thing that happened which would be perfect for that – and that would be Boss Tweet’s unilateral decision to impose tariffs on imports of aluminum and steel. The only problem there is, I would need to educate myself first. I know it’s a terrible idea, and if I didn’t know that I would still get a clue from the fact that every other country in the world is furious at him for it, starting with but not limited to Canada and Mexico, who are correct in seeing it as a violation of NAFTA. But I don’t know that much about international trade, and I’m not really a fan of NAFTA, so I can’t really discuss it. Yet.

But ignorance on one subject doesn’t have to keep me from finding a different project for the Furies. The thing is, so many people, including quite high level staffers, have now left the White House that they must be getting kind of desperate. So I think it would be a great idea for Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone to apply for some of those vacancies.

Thankfully, our friends in The Resistance who put out the daily Trump Dump newsletter have come up with a (somewhat satirical) blanket “help wanted” ad for all the unfilled positions, and sent it in an email so I can simply “forward” it to everyone through this site without getting us in trouble.

Help!

A turbulent course of events involving pesky prosecutors snooping around has created something of a crisis.

Any normal work environment like this one requires pathologically devoted employees with a level of adaptability necessary for absorbing the unfortunate impacts of a broad-based criminal investigation. Of course, if the pressure mounts too much for one to handle and too little for one to resign, our esteemed Press Secretary will roll up her sleeves and divert attention toward nothing, with all of her might. As a member of our globally-recognized team, you will have the opportunity to play a role in determining the legitimacy of the United States on the world stage for years to come — or impeachment, whichever comes first.

The unfortunate terminations and resignations of Flynn, Reid, Comey, Dubke, Schaub, Spicer, Short, Priebus, Scaramucci, Bannon, Gorka, Price, Powell, Omarosa, Porter, Raffel, and Hicks have created a perpetual challenge within this Administration, so urgency to fill these positions is high.

The post most desperately in need of filling is Communications Director.

Prospective Communications Directors:

– Must have flexibility in schedule, morals.
– Fluency in Russian a plus.
– Grasp of Constitutional principles optional.
– Sycophancy required!

NOTE: If seeking a position on the National Security Council, less is more in terms of foreign policy experience and knowledge. If you can find France on a map, you are overqualified. Freedom fries!

Sincerely,

The Executive Office of the President of the United States

Communications Director, for instance – I realize none of the ladies can (or would in their wildest dreams) produce the level of Sycophancy the position requires, I think Tisiphone might well be able to fake it long enough to get hired, and then be in a position to raise holy hell.

Alecto and Megaera might both apply to the National Security Council. Lord knows our national security now is a disaster. I’m sure they could do better.

And, after all, the three names we have are just the only names we know. That doesn’t mean they don’t have thousands or millions of sisters who could easily cover all the vacancies. It would surely be nice to have some staff in there who would represent us.

The Furies and I will be back.
