Here is the one hundred twelfth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Republican Representative for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, Martha McSally She is so honored for her Republican bigotry and hatred.

0417McSally

Before she was a U.S. Representative for Arizona and a U.S. Senate candidate, Martha McSally made her name as an Air Force pilot from Rhode Island who sued the Department of Defense in 2002 to avoid having to wear an abaya off-base while stationed in Saudi Arabia. But a year later, in a commencement speech at Rhode Island College (in which she says Rhode Island is her home state), she told an Islamophobic and tasteless joke that foreshadowed her anti-immigrant, xenophobic political career.

As the recipient of an honorary degree from Rhode Island College, a public institution located in Providence, McSally told graduates that she was thankful to be “home from Saudi Arabia.” After mispronouncing the name of the college’s president, she began her address noting that she’d spent roughly 500 days deployed there over the previous two-plus years. Affecting a mocking Saudi accent, she joked that she’d been there so often that, on her last trip there, a Saudi officer had seen her and said, “Ah, welcome home.”

“I said ‘I gotta find another line of work. This is not good,” she quipped.  It went downhill from there… [emphasis added]

Barf Bag Alert!!

Since then, McSally has remained a Muslim hating bigot, and a strong opponent of DACA, while claiming to be “moderate”.  Perhaps her fellow Republicans will goose step moderately during her parade.

Yesterday’s meeting was most enjoyable, but everyone thought George looked quite funny with his foot angled out to the side.  I have scheduled an appointment for George repair on Friday morning.  Today is special day in the relations between the great nation, Canada, and Politics Plus.  I intend to celebrate the occasion by having a huge plate of my special chili for supper, and I shall send a colorful green cloud north shortly afterward.

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Melania Trump said on Monday that she did not understand the controversy swirling around James Comey’s new memoir, because the book she is writing is “so much meaner.”

Speaking to reporters at the White House, she said that she had obtained an advance copy of Comey’s book because she “couldn’t wait to read it,” but said that she found its tone and contents disappointingly mild.

“It felt like he was pulling his punches,” she said. “No one will say that when they read my book.”

Dang, Andy! Will she tear him a new sphincter, or what? RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): President Trump Attorney Michael Cohen’s Secret ‘Client #3’ Is Sean Hannity

I wish I had a pair of X-Ray eyes so I could see all the redacted stuff. Do you think Hannity hired Cohen to pay hush money to James Gluckert, aka Jeff Gannon? RESIST!!

New Comey Book

In the last few days, two things have had Donald Trump, aka Putin’s puppet so engaged that he is apparently beside himself and constantly spewing rage.  The first is the FBI raids on his personal shyster, bag man and strong-arm man, Michael Cohen.  And the second is the contents of James Comey’s new book, A Higher Loyalty.

0415peepee

President Donald Trump’s decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey last May might prove to have been one of the most consequential of his presidency. It certainly has given him a powerful enemy, one whose new book, "A Higher Loyalty," contains explosive accusations about the current White House occupant.

Given that Comey has an obvious bias against the man who terminated him, it is fair to say that the claims in the book should be taken with a grain of salt. Of course, considering that Trump himself lies so often that uttered more than 2,000 falsehoods during the first 355 days of his presidency, it’s hardly like the president has the credibility to persuasively rebut anything that Comey has written.

Here are some highlights.

1. Comey continues the legend of the "pee tape"

As The Washington Post reports:

According to Comey’s account in a new memoir, Trump “strongly denied the allegations, asking — rhetorically, I assumed — whether he seemed like a guy who needed the service of prostitutes. He then began discussing cases where women had accused him of sexual assault, a subject I had not raised. He mentioned a number of women, and seemed to have memorized their allegations.”

The January 2017 conversation at Trump Tower in Manhattan “teetered toward disaster” — until “I pulled the tool from my bag: ‘We are not investigating you, sir.’ That seemed to quiet him,” Comey writes.

Trump did not stay quiet for long. Comey describes Trump as having been obsessed with the portion dealing with prostitutes in the infamous dossier compiled by British former intelligence officer Christopher Steele, raising it at least four times with the FBI director. The document claimed that Trump had watched the prostitutes urinate on themselves in the same Moscow suite that President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama had stayed in “as a way of soiling the bed,” Comey writes.

Comey writes that Trump asked him to have the FBI investigate the allegations to prove they were not true, and offered varying explanations to convince him why. “I’m a germaphobe,” Trump told him in a follow-up call on Jan. 11, 2017, according to Comey’s account. “There’s no way I would let people pee on each other around me. No way.”

Comey also noted that the president’s explanation as to why this couldn’t have happened — namely that he had only stayed in the hotel room in question in order to change his clothes — didn’t actually make sense.

"I decided not to tell him that the activity alleged did not seem to require either an overnight stay or even being in proximity to the participants. In fact, though I didn’t know for sure, I imagined the presidential suite of the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow was large enough for a germaphobe to be at a safe distance from the activity," Comey wrote in his book…

Yesterday I twisted George’s foot, when I hit a snag crossing a street.  I shall have to go in for emergency repairs.  Pardon my rush.  Wendy is coming, and I overslept.  It’s later, and Wendy overslept too.  Tomorrow I’m meeting two prison volunteers and a former prisoner for a working lunch, so please e3xpect no more than a Personal Update or an Open Thread.

Short Takes:

From Think Progress: “I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today a child was sexually assaulted that was left at home because there was nobody there to watch them,” Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin (R) said to a reporter Friday. He claimed “hundreds of thousands” of children were left home alone as the result of statewide teacher walkouts, and that predators would have used this knowledge to attack unattended children.

He also “guaranteed” that a child ingested poison because their teachers were attending a protest and the child’s parent wouldn’t have enough money to take care of them. Bevin, who offered no evidence for his claims, said he was offended that caretakers would so “cavalierly… skip work” to attend the protest.

It is considerably more likely that children were assaulted, because they had the misfortune to be born to Republican perverts. RESIST!!

Everyday Erinyes #119

Posted by at 10:50 am  Politics

Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage. These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that. As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. These roughly translate as “unceasing,” “grudging,” and “vengeful destruction.”

Those working in the pharmaceutical industry have known (and the rest of us have suspected) for some time that the industry has no interest in people being well. But it is still surprising when someone in the loop (in this case Goldman Sachs, representing major investors) comes out and admits it.

A report released by Goldman Sachs April 10 titled “The Human Genome” contains this:

The potential to deliver ‘one shot cures’ is one of the most attractive aspects of gene therapy, genetically-engineered cell therapy and gene editing. However, such treatments offer a very different outlook with regard to recurring revenue versus chronic therapies…. While this proposition carries tremendous value for patients and society, it could represent a challenge for genome medicine developers looking for sustained cash flow.

Look at Hepatitis C, the report continues. It is now possible to cure hepatitis C. But the poor, persecuted pharma company that owns that cure has not only “exhausted the available pool of treatable patients,” but even (gasp![gasp mine]) “also decrease[d] the number of carriers able to transmit the virus to new patients….”

Who in the world thinks like that? No, don’t answer, I know the answer.

This issue is all bound up with the issue of who does scientific research, and particularly in the medical field. We all know that Democrats want the government doing medical research, because government’s purpose is the welfare of its citizens. And Republicans want private industry doing medical research, because private industry’s purpose is the payoff to its stockholders. In fact, the cuts proposed by the current regime last year to government research were so paralyzing that even Republicans could not stomach them.

You might think that if government scientists were to concentrate on research leading to cures, that private industry might be happy doing research which would lead to more and better maintenance and palliative medications and treatments, which certainly do have a place in medicine … as I’m sure everyone in my age group will agree. But you would be wrong. Republicans are never happy unless they (by which of course I mean their donors) own EVERYTHING.

I am too exhausted (and too angry) to go on very long today. But I hope readers will click through and check out the comment section. Some very witty people post there. One commenter, “Thoman A Paine,” says –

Doc gave me a prescription for Viagra, 30 tabs, went to CVS, pharmacist says “That will be $1,000.” I says, “What? That’s crazy.” I thought she was kidding, but, checked it out online, she wasn’t, the major pharmacies charge $28-$32 per tab and most insurance doesn’t cover it.

So, being of sound mind, I googled “cheap viagra” and got it on line for $1 per tab, ships from London, it’s OTC and cheap in the UK, but the FDA rules give Pfizer and one other company a near-monopoly in the US so they can charge 30 times as much as the Brits pay.

Farther down the page, after a lengthy discussion of ownership, generics, what the drug may be prescribed for (besides what you’re thinking), insurance, capitalism, fascism, socialism, corporate welfare, and trickledown, there is a response from “ghost7”:

That`s a stiff price, they have a real hard on for profits.

Alecto, Megaera, Tisiphone, there is no point in going after Big Pharma here, unless perhaps in the persons of their lobbyists. They are carrying out their mission of enrichment. The people who are NOT carrying out their mission of public welfare are the people of the current regime. Putting the fear of – well, anything except big donors actually – is probably not possible. Focus on getting them diselected and replaced with human beings. Thanks, ladies.

The Furies and I will be back.

It’s that time of week again, and I’m happy to share four fine video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: Operation Desert Stormy

Supreme Court Justice Stormy? She’s be better than Whoresuch!

Sen. Brian Schatz

I agree with him. In addition to our core principles, Democrats need to do things, just because they are the right thing to do.

Sinclair TV Shows

I don’t know about Sinclair, but the fake news shows sure have a Faux Noise look!

New Rule: The ‘What Were You Thinking’ Generation

Bill makes a valid point. I used to love Jack Benny and Rochester, and I still laugh without thinking at politically incorrect humor from times past as long as it was presented in good fun and not hatefully.

Bill was more funny than average this week.

From The New Yorker: Calling it a “regrettable accident,” Amazon apologized on Thursday for shipping ten thousand advance copies of James Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty,” to the White House.

Cartons of the book arrived early Thursday morning and kept coming throughout the day, until stacks of the book clogged virtually every hallway and office in the building.

Reportedly, Donald J. Trump was so incensed by the book situation that he screamed at Mike Pence while the Vice-President was in the middle of praising him, one source said.

The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, called any speculation that Trump had ordered Comey’s book “absurd,” adding, “The President does not order reading material.”

Uh Oh!  Andy is doing news again. RESIST!!
