Where was I fifty years ago today?  I was sitting on the ground in a farm in upstate NY, snuggling with an assortment of lovely ladies, partaking of an assortment of …um… herbs, and listening to the finest music that ever was.  After Woodstock, I never attended another rock concert.  Having seen the best, anything else would suffer by comparison. Here is a video Diary of Day Two to give you a taste of what it was like for an hour.

Ah… the memories!

It’s another muggy day here in the tiny old CatBox, but I’m feeling somewhat better, and I should be in the saddle both today and tomorrow.  WWWendy and I go to sign the lease in the shiny new CatBox late tomorrow afternoon, so I will be showering, eating, and getting to bed late.  I may need to take Thursday off to recover.

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Racist Trump Spectacle Distracts From Other Damaging Trump News

Rachel makes perfect sense. The rabid Republican Sheeple love their Fuhrer’s racist diatribes. At the same time, he angers people, who point others to what they already knew instead of what could inspire more to oppose him, such as the absolute proof that criminal bastard, Julian Assange, worked hand in glove with Russia and the Republican Reich. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The immigration raid early Monday morning at the El Paraiso Apartments in Houston was not exactly a major victory for law enforcement. It was foiled, in part, by 19-year-old Kaylin Garcia.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, Ms. Garcia was sitting in her car near her family’s apartment, in a largely Hispanic section of southwest Houston about 15 miles from downtown. She saw four Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents walk by — one dressed in camouflage fatigues and the others wearing black T-shirts and bulletproof vests. They were knocking on apartment doors. She took a picture of the agents with her phone, posted it to her Facebook page and notified some of her neighbors.

At least one of her neighbors saw Ms. Garcia’s picture and heard about her warnings — the family slid the chain closed on their door. When the agents knocked on the door, the family — an undocumented Honduran man and his wife, along with their American-born children and another relative — kept silent and never opened it. After a minute or two, the agents left.

“I wasn’t scared,” Ms. Garcia said. “I was scared for my neighbors.” She added, “Nobody opened the door.”

The anticipated large-scale ICE raids aimed at rounding up at least 2,000 migrant parents and children appear to have run into similar problems in other parts of the country. With widespread publicity about the raids, many undocumented migrants have been counseled to avoid opening their doors.

Finally! A win for the good guys (gals too)! RESIST!!

I felt exhausted yesterday morning, because I came down with a bug.  Except foe destinking, I spent the day in bed, and my fever broke last night.  Because I have such a busy day on Wednesday, I don’t want to push myself today.  I’m returning to bed, so this is my only article with no links messages on Care2.  OGIM Hugs!

I have to disagree on this one. To refer to the Fuhrer, his Republican Reich, and their hate-filled Sheeple as “human garbage” is an insult to human garbage. They are inhuman garbage. RESIST!!

[EDITOR’S NOTE: You would think by now I would know about changing horses in mid-stream – but you’d be wrong! But since this just developed in the past 12 hours (and the one I had ready is “timeless”), I changed course again.]

I usually don’t watch tennis. – but when I do, I watch Woody Harrelson watching tennis!

Yep, “Cheers” own beloved-but-wacky bartender, Woodrow Huckleberry Tiberius “Woody” Boyd, became a Meme at Wimbledon’s men’s doubles championship with his “lubricated” Emmy-Award winning antics – unbeknownst to him.

Harrelson eagerly watched the grueling match between partners Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah against Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The TV camera crews quickly realized what a treasure trove they had in Harrelson’s expressions (not to mention his frequent trips to the refreshment area) that were as entertaining as the match itself.

It all began when Mahut was unable to avoid a rocket-fired shot that struck him right on his forehead.

But it only got worse for Mahut – a whole lot worse. Later he was injured in a very vulnerable area … and dropped in agony. And Harrelson’s stunned look captured the universal male commiserating response of “OMG!”

And since this Tweet comes with sound, I’ll let you experience the crowd’s groin-groan (at least from the males) that I’m sure accompanied it.  So be sure to turn on the sound – and let me know if they groaned.

Let’s go to the replay of Harrelson’s stunned OMG! look.

Is it any wonder that Woody decided he was in dire need of some liquid refreshment to settle him down? While Woody is an open admirer of the effects of THC, unfortunately for him the only grass available at Wimbledon was on Centre Court. So he made do with wine.

Judging from his difficulty navigating the steps, it looks like Woody stayed in the concession area for more than a few refills. When he returns to his seat the match had restarted, so he’s denied access. Making the best of it, Woody works on his wine.

Let’s enjoy that from a different angle focusing on the ever so subtle look of British disapproval.

I won’t cover every trip to the concession area, but you can see he’s gotten very friendly with the usher – and also treated himself to a fine fedora.

While those libation visits took their toll, at least it looks like that wine was lip-licking good!

And as Wimbledon is closing down for the day, we find Woody has just discovered he became the Meme du Jour and is seen enjoying the many Twitter Tweets featuring him! (Or maybe just nodding off. It’s hard to tell.)

Netroots Nation Candidates

My comments well be brief.  Elizabeth Warren was the star.  The editor of Philadelphia’s main newspaper agrees, as you shall see.  I am  including a complete video of all the candidates.

She had them at “hello.”

No, seriously. After applauding performatively for anti-Trump red meat tossed out by New York Sen. Kirsten Gillbrand (“We all have a responsibility to fight as hard as we can against this president!”) and former Cabinet secretary Julian Castro (“Instead of breaking up families, we should break up ICE!”), more than 3,000 politically left activists at the Convention Center went wild the instant that Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren took her first stride onto the Netroots Nation stage.

People at the confab’s 2020 presidential candidates forum leaped to their feet. Some chanted, “Warren, Warren.” One woman loudly blurted out, “We love you, Liz!” at the senator, briefly blushing to match her red blazer.

Then for the next 25 or so minutes, Warren loved the American progressive movement back.

You find praise much higher than that.  Here’s that video.

Almost all are superior candidates.

My main purpose here is to share the complete (90 min. plus) video of yesterday afternoon’s session, although I will include a couple of my own comments.

0713Netroots

In the early stages of a 2020 Democratic primary brimming with presidential candidates seeking to outflank each other from the left, some in the field jockeying for the progressive mantle will test their bold ideas before an eager left-leaning base at the NetRoots Nation annual conference this weekend.

Along with Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a top-tier candidate in recent polling, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee are converging on Philadelphia for the gathering of liberal activists, which has a reputation for channeling progressive energy while pushing lawmakers and candidates to the left on a range of issues.

The last time presidential candidates descended on the annual conference was during the 2016 presidential contest, when runner-up Bernie Sanders’ status as the lone outsider of the progressive wing elevated his populist platform as a foil against the ultimate nominee, Hillary Clinton. Despite moving the party leftward four years ago, the Vermont senator is no longer the progressive standard-bearer in 2020, but instead standing among a parade of contenders, including his friendly rival, Warren, who broadly shares his vision for economic equality…

Here’s that video:

Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley shares remarks starting just after 1:00:00 and 1:28:00.

Markos Moulitsas of Daily Kos commented that Bernie’s campaigning needed to progress from four years ago, but it has not.  Bernie took umbrage at that and retaliated by depriving Netroots Nation of his presence.  I think that was a self defeating move on his part.  If Markos is wrong, Bernie should take his rightful place on the stage today with the other progressive presidential hopefuls and prove him wrong.  Bernie’s display of pique will make his campaign seem far less relevant than it is.

Are you ready for the candidates tomorrow?

Last night was so muggy that I had very little sleep. so I’ll be brief.  Tomorrow is a WWWendy day, and I may not have time for more than a Personal Update with no links messages on Care2.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Is The New Labor Secretary…Even Worse?

One of my co-administrators commented that she did not see how Acosta’s replacement could be worse. I remember thinking, “bite your tongue” when I saw it. Chris and his guests did not mention that sweatshop workers were forced to act as sex slaves for Japanese tourists (and probably, Republican politicians). RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): People Got To Be Free – The Rascals

Amen! Ah… The Memories! RESIST!!

From NY Times: The House gave final approval Friday to a defense bill that would put a liberal stamp on military policy by shackling President Trump’s ability to wage war in Iran and Yemen, restricting the use of military funds at the southwestern border and returning transgender troops to the armed forces.

The $733 billion National Defense Authorization Act was passed along stark party lines — 220 to 197 — with Republicans uniting to oppose the legislation. The defense policy bill has traditionally been a bipartisan exercise, but House Republicans have come out strongly against this year’s version.

The bill still must be reconciled with a Senate version that is considerably less confrontational with the Trump administration. And it is likely Senate negotiators will try to strip out many of the House’s provisions.

I like what I see, but I strongly dislike how Pelosi caved and passed the Senate version of the border funding bill without even taking it to conference committee. Tell me she won’t cave again! RESIST!!
