This week I’ve been swamped. Yesterday the morning was taken up by a doctor appointment and the afternoon with a visit from my oxygen company doing tests on me. I barely managed to reply to comments and only visited one blog. Today is my volunteer day with a therapy group for former prisoners. I should get some visiting done tomorrow.
This morning I deleted a couple comments from a right winger who ignored the blog’s only rule, that we treat each other with respect, regardless of views. I ask you all to use restraint in replying to such individuals, and reply to them respectfully. Do not respond to them in kind. I will deal with it as soon as I am able.
Please be patient with me.

Yesterday even getting comments answered was a struggle. Paperwork for a bunch of new doctors took up the morning. Year-end bookkeeping took up the afternoon. Today will be rough as well as I have a doctor appointment this morning. There’s no emergency. I’m just catching up on the care I had to do without for years. I should be able to catch up on blog visiting on Thursday.

I read that some researchers in NZ have said that a pet pooch has a bigger carbon footprint than an SUV and recommended edible pets like bunnies. I immediately thought of Lisa G. 😉

Here we are on the last day of the year. I have no doubt that the 09 habit will die hard and I will commit several date related typos early next month… and year. Yesterday I replied to comments here and visited several blog. Then I spent over two hours on the phone with Clear tech support. A couple days ago I lost my download speed. After going through all the possibilities I had tried and a few that I had now, they are kicking it up to their engineering dept, as they figure the problem is in one of their towers.

Yesterday I replied to early comments here and watched football for the rest of the day. The Broncos game was a heart breaker.

Although clearly outmatched, the Broncos hung tough and actually tied the game 27-27 in the fourth quarter, but the eagles added a field goal for the win. I don’t liked that, but the better team won. Fortunately Baltimore also lost, so the Broncos still have a good shot to make the playoffs.

Yesterday I managed to catch up on replying to comments here and visit my entire blogroll. I went to dinner with a friend and wrapped myself around the first prime rib I have tasted in over five years. It was heaven on a plate. Today is a holy day in the First Church of the Ellipsoid Orb, because the Broncos are on TV here. The Eagles are a far better team, but that’s the kind of team against which the Broncos do best. I’ll be attending to… ‘religion’. 😉

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
