Yesterday I managed to catch up on comments and returned visits from two first time visitors.  Otherwise, I worked on the computer all day.  I have reinstalled and reconfigured most of the software I use regularly.  I recovered all my documents and pictures from a Documents backup I made on a CD.  Otherwise, I would be weeks behind on my volunteer work, not just days.  I hope to get some visiting in today.

From Open Left: All speculation to the contrary aside, U.S. Rep Bart Stupak says he has every intention of running for re-election this fall.

That starts the day with bad news.  I hope someone will take out this coat-hanger mavin in the primary.

From TPM: North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Tom Fetzer has called upon Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele to resign — an event that is believed to be the first time a state GOP chair (and first RNC member) has openly called for Steele to quit.

From Think Progress: With a deadpan, Beck insists that he is not political: “I could give a flying crap about the political process.” Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. “We’re an entertainment company,” Beck says.

Even that’s a lie.  Fox does have an infotainment factor, like when they talk about how evil hooterlicious ladies are, while displaying enough of them to cake Bubba’s beard with drool.  But what Beck does is not infotainment.  It’s infoganda.

From Think Progress: For over a year, many on the right have led a smear campaign against the Census, potentially undermining the constitutionally mandated decennial count. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) led the charge, making outlandish claims about internment camps and proudly declaring in June that she would not fill her form, in violation of federal law. Meanwhile, right-wing talk show hosts Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh urged listeners to not fully complete their forms, with Beck warning that answering the race question would somehow “increase slavery.” Today, in a post on the conservative blog Red State, Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC) called out this “blatant misinformation” and urged all Americans to complete the Census, as it is our “Constitutional duty”.

Dang that GOP propaganda!  It’s only the “Constitutional Duty” for lefties to fill out the census.  Republicans and cowardly blue dogs should obey Bachmann and trash the forms. 😈

From Politico: Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council and an influential social conservative, is urging his members to stop giving money to the Republican National Committee.

But the RNC is so effective!  Here’s what I mean.

From Raw Story: Just as Republicans are hoping to extricate themselves from the BondageClubGate scandal, another mishap related to the sex industry is threatening to retie them up.

A low-level staffer was fired Tuesday when it was discovered she was behind a nearly $2,000 charge for a night at a Los Angeles "bondage-themed" bar. Problems got worse Thursday after reports came out that an RNC fundraising mailer listed the number for a phone-sex line.

Callers to the number were offered "live, one-on-one talk with a nasty girl who will do anything you want for just $2.99 per minute".

Can we continue to accuse the GOP of bigotry when they have such a penchant for equal opportunity perversion?

By the time I got home from my doctor appointment, I was cold, tired, and wet, so all I accomplished yesterday was to keep up with early morning comments.  I learned that I do have fairly severe sleep apnea and will probably need to use a BIPAP device. :-(  Today is my volunteer day with the therapy group, so expect me to fall further behind.

From Washington Monthly: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told a crowd at a Duluth, Minn., rally over the weekend that there is no evidence that several black lawmakers were harassed by conservative protesters on Capitol Hill in the days leading up to the health care reform vote.

From NOW Blog: Insurers agree that if they provide insurance for a child, they must cover pre-existing conditions. But, they say, the law does not require them to write insurance for the child and it does not guarantee the “availability of coverage” for all until 2014.

William G. Schiffbauer, a lawyer whose clients include employers and insurance companies, said: “The fine print differs from the larger political message. If a company sells insurance, it will have to cover pre-existing conditions for children covered by the policy. But it does not have to sell to somebody with a pre-existing condition. And the insurer could increase premiums to cover the additional cost.”

I told you they would find loopholes.  This is why hearth care is too important to leave decisions to corporations so greedy that they will happily kill clients to save a buck.

From Think Progress: Yesterday, as a part of a two-day trip to the United States, French President Nicolas Sarkozy spoke to students and faculty at Columbia University. At one point in the speech, the French President lauded the United States for passing a health care bill that extends coverage to millions of uninsured, welcoming our nation to “the club of states who don’t turn their back on the sick and poor”.

European Conservatives seem nothing at all like the Repuglicans.
