Yesterday I devoted most of the day to catching up.  I replied to all the comments, which took most of the morning.  Then I visited half of our blogroll.  I’ll stay caught up today.

Fantasy Football:

From Public Policy Polling: One of the interesting dynamics occurring in the Nevada Senate race right now is that Harry Reid is outrunning his approval numbers- about 10% of voters who don’t approve of his job performance are planning to vote for him anyway.

The automatic assumption would be that those are folks who think Sharron Angle’s too conservative, but only 40% of them actually hold that opinion. When you ask them whether Reid or Angle would be more effective as a Senator though 87% of them say Reid to only 10% for Angle.

See?  We coulf have dumped Reid as Majority Leader.  People who don’t think Angle is a wing nut thing she’s a dingbat.  A progressive could have beaten her easily.

From Think Progress: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who many previously thought would co-sponsor comprehensive immigration reform this year, is considering radically changing the 14th amendment. Graham may introduce a constitutional amendment that would overturn the portion of the Constitution which states “[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” In other words, Graham wants to end the practice of granting citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants born on U.S. soil.

And people wonder why I say thet the Tea Party and the GOP are one.

TGIF!!

Yesterday I my Podiatrist died his quarterly cutting on my foot.  A plugged gland secretes something that hardens like stone.  Every three months it grows to the size of a pea and makes walking almost unbearable, so it needs to be cut out.  It’s a lot less painful than it used to be the years I had to do it myself.  By the time I returned home, the temperature in the apartment was over 90° again, Ind I was too useless to reply to comments or return visits.  Today will be the same, because of my volunteer work as a co-facilitator for a therapy group of former prisoners.  Because of the heat, I’m still behind non sleep, but I expect to start catching up tomorrow.

From Alternet: Almost two dozen Tea Party-affiliated lawmakers cosponsored a new resolution late last week that expresses their support for Israel “to use all means necessary to confront and eliminate nuclear threats posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the use of military force.”

Don’t these fools realize that we will get sucked into a war between Israel and Iran faster than a Republican leader will steal a baby’s ice cream?

From Right Wing Watch: And so Tea Party activists are planning to protest outside of the Islamic Center’s existing facility and urging participants to bring dogs in order to intimidate worshipers because "Muslims hate dogs".

Don’t these fools realize that the only time Muslims hate dogs is when Republicans use dogs as instruments of torture?

From Political Ticker: As if the repeated trips to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina weren’t clues enough, former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania met privately last week with several of his former Capitol Hill staffers to pitch the idea of a presidential bid in 2012.

According to GOP sources familiar with the meeting, which took place last Tuesday in Washington, Santorum conveyed his seriousness about a possible campaign and solicited his former aides for advice.

Bring him on!!  Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum has an established record of hate against which to run.

Happy Hump Day

Yesterday my need for sleep won out over the heat and I finally got some.  The heat wave continues here, but in the last hour the temperature in my apartment dipped below 90°.  I have a lot of catching up to do.  I don’t know how much I will accomplish today, because I have my monthly grocery delivery coming today, and putting it all away is a strain even under normal circumstances.

From NY Times: Sebastián Piñera, Chile’s president, abruptly rejected calls on Sunday from the Roman Catholic Church to pardon dozens of imprisoned military officials convicted of human rights violations during the era known as Chile’s dirty war.

Chile’s dirty war was the GOP inspired coup in which Nixon and Kissinger plotted the overthrow and murder of President Allende.  Many of the military officers imprisoned in Chile now received their training in the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, GA.

From The Colorado Statesman: Predicting that the winner of the Republican gubernatorial contest between candidates Dan Maes and Scott McInnis is doomed to lose to Democratic candidate Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper in the general election, former Congressman Tom Tancredo has pitched a “Catch 22” plan — the GOP candidates either vow to quit the race after the primary or Tancredo will run as the American Constitution Party candidate against the Republican primary winner and Hickenlooper.

Tancredo is a typical Republican in that he plots to get something he has not earned.

From Think Progress: Compensating for damage the Republican National Committee’s unsteadiness may cause Republican candidates this fall, several high-profile GOP operatives — including Karl Rove and two former RNC chairmen — recently founded American Crossroads as a “grassroots,” “shadow RNC.” Salon’s Justin Elliott now reports that the group raised 97 percent of its funding from just four billionaires.

This should be no surprise, since folks like these ate the only ones Republicans truly represent.
