From All In: White House weighing attempt to block Comey testimony

The President is consider whether to try and stop former FBI Director James Comey from testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee next week by invoking executive privilege.

I don’t think he can win on executive privilege, after all his bragging and threats, but it will proclaim his guilt again, if he tries. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Asking then FBI director James Comey to flat-out drop the investigation might be the most obvious attempt by Donald Trump to obstruct the Trump–Russia investigation. But it’s far from the only move he’s made to block the truth from coming out.

The White House is telling federal agencies to blow off Democratic lawmakers’ oversight requests, as Republicans fear the information could be weaponized against President Donald Trump.

At meetings with top officials for various government departments this spring, Uttam Dhillon, a White House lawyer, told agencies not to cooperate with such requests from Democrats, according to Republican sources inside and outside the administration.

Even more obstruction of Justice. RESIST!!

From NY Times: For years, Republicans savaged Democrats for supporting the Affordable Care Act, branding the law — with some rhetorical license — as a government takeover of health care.

Now, cast out of power in Washington and most state capitals, Democrats and activist leaders seeking political redemption have embraced an unlikely-seeming cause: an actual government takeover of health care.

At rallies and in town hall meetings, and in a collection of blue-state legislatures, liberal Democrats have pressed lawmakers, with growing impatience, to support the creation of a single-payer system, in which the state or federal government would supplant private health insurance with a program of public coverage. And in California on Thursday, the Democrat-controlled State Senate approved a preliminary plan for enacting single-payer system, the first serious attempt to do so there since then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, vetoed legislation in 2006 and 2008.

With Republicans in full control of the federal government, there is no prospect that Democrats can put in place a policy of government-guaranteed medicine on the national level in the near future. And fiscal and logistical obstacles may be insurmountable even in solidly liberal states like California and New York.

Yet as Democrats regroup from their 2016 defeat, leaders say the party has plainly shifted well to the left on the issue, setting the stage for a larger battle over the health care system in next year’s congressional elections and the 2020 presidential race.

It’s about time! RESIST!!

Sanction the Nazis

When a state goes rogue and becomes an international pariah, the civilized nations of the world often impose sanctions on that rogue state, just as the US, Europe, and most of the rest of the world imposed sanctions on the Russia for invading Ukraine.  In like manner, the Nazis responsible for the US withdrawal  from the Paris climate accords should be sanctioned.  Sadly, sanctions against the US would not work.  They would make the American people suffer, but Trump delights in doing that himself.  The vast majority of the American People are not Nazis.  The majority od Republicans are not Nazis.  Even some Republican politicians and pundits are not Nazis.  So what an I suggesting?

0602ClimateAccords

Only future generations will be able to calculate the full consequences of President Trump’s incredibly shortsighted approach to climate change, since it is they who will suffer the rising seas and crippling droughts that scientists say are inevitable unless the world brings fossil fuel emissions to heel.

But this much is clear now: Mr. Trump’s policies — the latest of which was his decision to withdraw from the 2015 Paris agreement on climate change — have dismayed America’s allies, defied the wishes of much of the American business community he pretends to help, threatened America’s competitiveness as well as job growth in crucial industries and squandered what was left of America’s claim to leadership on an issue of global importance.

The only clear winners, and we’ve looked hard to find them, are hard-core climate deniers like Scott Pruitt at the Environmental Protection Agency and the presidential adviser Stephen Bannon, and various fossil fuel interests that have found in Mr. Trump another president (George W. Bush being the last) credulous enough to swallow the bogus argument that an agreement to fight climate change will destroy or at least inhibit the economy.

Mr. Trump justified his decision by saying that the Paris agreement was a bad deal for the United States, buttressing his argument with a cornucopia of dystopian, dishonest and discredited data based on numbers from industry-friendly sources. Those numbers are nonsense, as is his argument that the agreement would force the country to make enormous economic sacrifices and cause a huge redistribution of jobs and economic resources to the rest of the world…

From <NY Times>

Lawrence O'Donnell discusses the issue with Dan Rather.

Macron was right to separate the American Reich from the American People.

The Rachel Maddow Show interviewed Gov. Jerry Brown about what other localities, states and countries can do.

I fully support Under 2°.  Oregon is a state Signatory and Portland is a city Signatory, but we still need sanctions.

The civilized nations of the world should sanction the Trump family.  Seize all Trump family real estate, products, and cash flows belonging to Trump, his children and Kushner.  Hold them in escrow until Trump relents.

I’d like to say yesterday went well, but my Ophthalmologist’s front office really screwed the pooch.  The doctor was waiting for me at a different office, where they have all the equipment needed for both tests.  However the only way I had been notified was in an the fine print of an online appointment reminder notice at their web portal.  That’s the wrong way to inform someone who can barely see!  So I had to reschedule the main test, and a technician performed the small test that required only partial dilation.  When I was done, I asked Tri-Met if the could move up my ride home and they got me 45 minutes sooner.  I was frustrated and exhausted from recent heat and humidity, so I just posted that I was OK, and went to bed.  Except for a meal break and Republican depository breaks, I stayed there until morning.  I’m feeling recovered, but groggy.  The poll change and Monthly Report will be a few days late.  I’ll finish ASAP.

GOP Rep Issa Coward

Normally, when I have used the tag ‘GOP Fear’, it has referred to the manner in which Republicans instill fear in their sheeple to get them to goose-step without thought in blind obedience.  However, since passing the latest Republican plan to kill Granny, aka TrumpCare or RepubliCare, Republican reps have cowered in fear of their constituents.  Darrell may be the biggest coward of all.

0531Issa

A GOP congressman became an instant meme after taking to the roof of his district office to photograph protesters on the street below.

Social media users drew instant comparisons between Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Michael Scott, the bungling boss from “The Office,” following Tuesday’s bizarre incident at his office in Vista.

There were conflicting reports as to why Issa decided to go up on the roof in the first place. The lawmaker himself said he’d “spent the morning talking with constituents [liar delinked] gathered outside the office” before going up “to take a quick pic.”

His opponents, however, alleged that he scurried up onto the roof because he was “too afraid” to speak with the protesters below…

From <Huffington Post>

Chris Hayes covered the story on All In.

Issa’s account has Republicitis and needs Dulcolax.

I have no doubt that Darrell Issa coward.  Furthermore, Darrell Issa asshole.

Arrest Kushner Now! RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Donald J. Trump tweeted early Wednesday morning that his practice of sleeping only four hours a day was having no impact whatsoever on his ability to cljjryff.

Trump, who repeatedly touted his high energy level during the 2016 campaign, tweeted that, despite his gruelling Presidential schedule, he still had enormous reserves of stamina, which he called “stamgygygyggy.”

In the same tweetstorm, he lashed out at news reports questioning his fitness for office, denouncing them as “fakequez%(™.”

Andy is back to straight news again. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Back from overseas and confronting an unforgiving political environment, President Trump appears increasingly isolated inside the White House, according to advisers, venting frustration over the performance of his staff and openly talking about shaking it up. But as he considers casting off old aides, Mr. Trump is finding it challenging to recruit new ones.

The disclosures from investigations stemming from Russian meddling in last year’s election — coupled with the president’s habit of undercutting his staff — have driven away candidates for West Wing jobs that normally would be among the most coveted in American politics, according to people involved in the search.

By the time the first change in what may be a broader shake-up was announced Tuesday, the White House was left without a replacement. Michael Dubke, the White House communications director, said he would step down, but four possible successors contacted by the White House declined to be considered, according to an associate of Mr. Trump who like others asked not to be identified discussing internal matters.

That makes perfect sense. If I were a completely corrupt Republican (tautology intended), I would not accept an appointment from the Fuhrer without a guaranteed full-salary pension for life and a blanket full pardon for all crimes: past, present and future. RESIST!!

Let Them Eat Cake

Posted by at 1:41 pm  Politics

The phrase, "Let them eat cake." was falsely attributed to Marie Antoinette as a statement of contempt for the poor, who had no bread to eat.  Even though she never actually said it, that same attitude is alive and well in today’s Republican Party.  Typically, Rep. Adrian Smith [R-NE] made it clear that he thinks the poor have no right to eat by the way he kept ducking the question.

GOPVoting

A Nebraska Republican refused to say whether all Americans were entitled to food.

Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) appeared Saturday on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” where he discussed farm subsidies and food stamps, which both would be cut under a budget proposed by President Donald Trump, reported The Hill.

Host Scott Simon asked Smith “bluntly” whether he believed every American was entitled to eat, but the lawmaker refused to give a straight answer.

“Well, they — nutrition, obviously, we know is very important, and I would hope that we can look to —” Smith said.

Scott cut him off and reminded the lawmaker that living creatures died without food…
