It’s another sweltering hot day with 91° forecast and 54% humidity.  I just made a run to the rest room at the end of the hall and had to change my shirt when I returned.  Tomorrow I expect to post fully, but may not.  It’s a grocery delivery day, and I may have a visit from my computer tech to clean up some networking issues that the Comcast tech screwed up.  Jason called me last night to tell me his car is in the shop.  He expects to get it back today, but if he doesn’t we’ll have to reschedule to Thursday.  It de3pends on what happens when for how long.

Once again, Donald Trump is taking to Twitter to call the investigation into Russian election hacks a "Witch Hunt". This time, however, it comes with a twist.

What else Republican leaders could do to "protect" him that they’re not already doing is, short of passing legislation to bar outright any investigation into himself or members of his campaign or administration, unclear.

Republicans have been working so hard to defend their Fuhrer, some could be charged with Obstruction of Justice. RESIST!!

It has now been six months since Donald "The Tweeting Twit" Trump ascended from the flames of the nether regions to impose his Republican Rectum Reich on the people of America.  How have they done?  The Republican Reich is virtually always wrong.  Fortunately, we have another Reich that is virtually always right, and Robert Reich has prepared a report card, designed for the fools that voted for Trump.

TrumpAsshole

So after six months, has he delivered what he promised you?

1. He told you he’d repeal Obamacare and replace it with something “beautiful.” You bought it. But he didn’t repeal and he didn’t replace. (Just as well: His plan would have knocked at least 22 million off health insurance, including many of you.)

2. He told you he’d cut your taxes. You bought it. But tax “reform” is stalled. And if it ever moves, the only ones whose taxes will be cut are the wealthy.

3. He told you he’d invest $1 billion in our nation’ crumbling infrastructure. You bought it. But his infrastructure plan, which was really a giveaway to rich investors, is also stalled.

4. He said he’d clean the Washington swamp. You bought it. But he’s brought into his administration more billionaires, CEOs, and Wall Street moguls than in any administration in history, to make laws that will enrich their businesses, along with former lobbyists, lawyers and consultants who are crafting new policies for the same industries they recently worked for.

5. He said he’d use his business experience to whip the White House into shape. You bought it. But he created the most chaotic, dysfunctional, back-stabbing White House in modern history, in which no one is in charge.

6. He said he’d close “special interest loopholes that have been so good for Wall Street investors but unfair to American workers.“ You bought it. But he picked a Wall Street financier Stephen Schwarzman to run his strategic and policy forum, who compares closing those loopholes to Hitler’s invasion of Poland… [emphasis added]

It’s another 90° day with 50% humidity.  I never thought I’d say that I’m ready for winter, and I’m really not sure.  Before global Republication caused the climate to change, Oregon had blissfully moderate weather year round.  Now summer is too hot, winter is too cold, and spring and fall last less time than a fart smells.  OGIM!  (Oh God It’s Monday!)

From Daily Kos: All is not well in Republicanville. No matter how slavish the Fox News segments become, it ain’t working; it is slowly dawning on powerful Republicans that the president they are so dutifully protecting and sucking up to may, in fact, be an idiot.

Trump’s struggles go beyond health care. More than six months into Trump’s presidency, Republicans have no legislative accomplishments other than the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, a confusing foreign policy, and a White House that is perpetually in damage-control mode. From lawmakers and governors to donors and foreign policy experts, a certain realization is sinking in within the party, based on more than a dozen interviews in recent days: Donald Trump has been a historically weak and ineffective president.

That it took six months to start wondering whether the man who talked about grabbing women, who discussed his penis size during a presidential debate, who sent his press secretary to baldly lie about the size of the crowds on his inauguration day, and who is currently engaged in a public defense of his campaign team openly seeking the assistance of the Russian government during a period of unprecedented assault on our election systems by that government, is perhaps not the brilliant world-shaping genius he made himself out to be.

This is the problem with the Republican Party. They don’t catch on too quick.

I disagree with this author. I think they knew he was an idiot from square one. They just don’t care, or even welcome the distraction his idiocy brings to voters, as long as they get to gut the safety net and steal billions from the poor and middle classes to fund welfare for billionaires. RESIST!!

From CNN: Democrats will unveil an economic agenda Monday that leaders hope will bring together the progressive wing of their party and Democrats who voted for President Donald Trump, creating a united front and platform ahead of next year’s midterm elections.

The plan — under the slogan "A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, Better Future" — is a three-pronged approach that focuses on improving wages, lowering costs of everyday expenses and boosting job-training opportunities.

Top Democrats will release the agenda Monday at an event in Berryville, Virginia, located in the congressional district represented by Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock — a target seat that Democrats hope to flip in their favor next year.

Following their party’s disastrous presidential loss in November, Democrats have been in a period of soul-searching as they seek a new message and cohesive identity in the Trump era.

"The number one thing that we did wrong is we didn’t have — we didn’t tell people what we stood for," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday in an interview on ABC’s "This Week."

In this rare instance, Schumer is right. Democratic leaders were too busy railing against what we stand against to present what we stand for effectively. I think it’s a good idea, but I’ll reserve judgment, until I actually see what’s in the plan. Regardless, it will be better than the Republican plan: right to life that ends at birth, hate for all but Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians, and welfare for billionaires. RESIST!!

From Media Matters: Pro-Trump internet trolls claimed that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was a "terrorist organization" and compared the group to Nazis after ADL identified some of the biggest online personalities of the “alt-right” and “alt-lite” movements and called them out for spreading hateful rhetoric.

The ADL recently published a list of “alt-right” and “alt-lite” figures, identifying key players in both the white supremacist “alt-right” and the fringe right-wing media landscape of media trolls and smear merchants it inspired, which the ADL called the “alt-lite.” It included internet troll and Infowars contributor Mike Cernovich; smear merchant Jack Posobiec, who once received a temporary White House press pass; disgraced Breitbart provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos; The Gateway Pundit’s Lucian Wintrich; and Rebel Media’s Gavin McInnes, using the “alt-lite” banner to describe their prior affiliation and promotion of “alt-right” figures and ideologies. In a Periscope live stream, Cernovich responded to the list’s publication by urging his followers to spread the hashtag “#ADLTerror” [Republican terrorism delinked] on Twitter. Cernovich also called ADL “a terrorist organization” that had “targeted” him and his family for “murder and assassination” by including his name in the list.

While I’m not always a big fan of ADL, because they tend to turn a blind eye, when Israeli Republicans persecute innocent Palestinians in retribution for acts of guilty ones, they did a super service to humanity by helping expose these Republican Nazis. RESIST!!

I don’t have very much to say about this issue, except this.  I really appreciate it on those rare occasions when a media personality challenges the veracity of Trump’s Republican Rectum Reich.  Here Jake Tapper tapped Trump’s new Reichslügenmeister, Anthony "Bankster Barf" Scaramucci!

CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday called out newly-appointed White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci for continuing to deny Russia’s interference in the U.S. election.

On Sunday’s State of the Union program, Tapper asked Scaramucci if President Donald Trump was prepared to sign a sanctions bill against Russia.

Greetings from the heat wave.  Wendy should arrive momentarily, and it’s a good thing too.  I can’t stand my own company.  The downside is that the building is so super-heated that it’s 90°+ in the shower room, even at 8:00 AM.  To try to keep me cool, when my shower is done, we’ll turn a fine spray of cold water on me, not completely dry me, and hope that I make it back to my room, where the AV is already blasting, before I’m sweat soaked.  Later:  Wendy was here, and as always, I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

From Daily Kos: The House Speaker, in his inimitable snotty-ass frat boy way, called the latest estimate from the Congressional Budget Office that Trumpcare would cost 22 million people their insurance "bogus." Because when it comes to bogus numbers, Ryan knows what he’s talking about.

Usually, though, his bogus numbers are dusted with unicorn poop and pixie dust and say that destroying the safety net and cutting taxes for the very rich will save the economy. When the numbers are real, that’s when Ryan gets it all wrong, as every former director that the CBO has ever had is happy to tell him—along with the rest of congressional leadership.

The undersigned represent every former Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). We write to express our strong objection to recent attacks on the integrity and professionalism of the agency and on the agency’s role in the legislative process.

CBO began serving the Congress in 1975. Over the past 42 years CBO has been firmly committed to providing nonpartisan and high-quality analysis — and that commitment remains as strong and effective today as it has been in the past. Because CBO works for the Congress, and only the Congress, the agency’s analysis addresses the unique needs of legislators.

To meet the standard of nonpartisan objectivity, CBO makes no recommendations about policy, regularly consults with researchers and practitioners with a wide range of views (as can be seen in the agency’s panels of advisers and reviewers for major studies), and enhances its transparency by releasing extensive descriptions of its analytic techniques and forecast record.

In other words, Mr. Ryan, they don’t follow your practice of pulling numbers out of their asses.

Kudos to the CBO directors. Lyin’ Ryan never stops trying to shit bucks for billionaires! RESIST!!

From Think Progress: According to a new determination by the Senate parliamentarian, some of the most controversial parts of Senate Republicans’ bill to repeal and replace Obamacare violate Senate rules and will thus require 60 votes to pass instead of 51.

The parliamentarian found that key provisions violate the Byrd rule, which prohibits the Senate from including irrelevant matters as part of a reconciliation deal. Republican leadership is pushing the health care bill through as part of the budget reconciliation process in the hopes of passing the bill with a simple majority, thus avoiding filibuster by Democratic legislators.

Parts of the bill that will require 60 votes include defunding Planned Parenthood, a six-month waiting period for purchasing insurance after a lapse in coverage, and restrictions on tax credits for insurance plans that cover abortion. If the bill is not changed before a vote, the 60-vote threshold means it’s unlikely that these parts of the bill will pass, as they would require significant bipartisan support.

Another iteration of RepubliCare just bit the dust. Is it dead yet?

From NY Times: A newfound memo from Kenneth W. Starr’s independent counsel investigation into President Bill Clinton sheds fresh light on a constitutional puzzle that is taking on mounting significance amid the Trump-Russia inquiry: Can a sitting president be indicted?

The 56-page memo, locked in the National Archives for nearly two decades and obtained by The New York Times under the Freedom of Information Act, amounts to the most thorough government-commissioned analysis rejecting a generally held view that presidents are immune from prosecution while in office.

“It is proper, constitutional, and legal for a federal grand jury to indict a sitting president for serious criminal acts that are not part of, and are contrary to, the president’s official duties,” the Starr office memo concludes. “In this country, no one, even President Clinton, is above the law.”

Mr. Starr assigned Ronald Rotunda, a prominent conservative professor of constitutional law and ethics whom Mr. Starr hired as a consultant on his legal team, to write the memo in spring 1998 after deputies advised him that they had gathered enough evidence to ask a grand jury to indict Mr. Clinton, the memo shows.

Other prosecutors working for Mr. Starr developed a draft indictment of Mr. Clinton, which The Times has also requested be made public. The National Archives has not processed that file to determine whether it is exempt from disclosure under grand-jury secrecy rules.

Well, if Slick Willie could be indicted for a BJ, Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten can certainly be indicted for conspiring with a hostile foreign power.  RESIST!!

Who Outed Sessions?

Posted by at 2:00 pm  Politics
Jul 222017

For last few days, Jefferson "KKK Beauregard" Sessions has been the low man on the totem pole in the Trump’s Republican Rectum Reich.  Most AGs would have resigned after being publically shamed, but Beauregard gave up Senate seniority to take that post, and like any Republican, he’s desperate to cling to power.    Now a communication from Kislyak that Sessions had discussed Trump’s Russia policy with him prior to the election has leaked.  I believe it.  But I find the timing of the leak to be highly suspicious.

0722SessionsTrump

Russia’s ambassador to Washington told his superiors in Moscow that he discussed campaign-related matters, including policy issues important to Moscow, with Jeff Sessions during the 2016 presidential race, contrary to public assertions by the embattled attorney general, according to current and former U.S. officials.

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s accounts of two conversations with Sessions — then a top foreign policy adviser to Republican candidate Donald Trump — were intercepted by U.S. spy agencies, which monitor the communications of senior Russian officials both in the United States and in Russia. Sessions initially failed to disclose his contacts with Kislyak and then said that the meetings were not about the Trump campaign.

One U.S. official said that Sessions — who testified that he has no recollection of an April encounter — has provided “misleading” statements that are “contradicted by other evidence.” A former official said that the intelligence indicates that Sessions and Kislyak had “substantive” discussions on matters including Trump’s positions on Russia-related issues and prospects for U.S.-Russia relations in a Trump administration.

Sessions has said repeatedly that he never discussed campaign-related issues with Russian officials and that it was only in his capacity as a U.S. senator that he met with Kislyak… [emphasis added]

From <Washington Post>

Rachel Maddow covered the story after updating us on recent developments into the investigation into Republican crimes.

It could be conscientious intelligence pros.  However, Ari Melbur suggested that the Trump Reich might be behind the leak to give Trump an excuse to fire KKK Beauregard and replace him with an AG that can fire Mueller.

Personally, I doubt that.  While it could give Trump that excuse, it also is hard evidence of quid pro quo, strongly indicating a criminal conspiracy.  I think the Fuhrer might prefer to avoid that.

Nobody wants the Mueller investigation to end more than Putin.  He’s invested a lot of quid into installing Trump as puppet Resident.  Because the investigation has tied Trump’s hands Putin has received very little quo in return.  He will receive no more as long as the investigation continues.  Therefore Russia may have outed Sessions to give Trump an excuse to force him and to turn up the heat on Trump to fire Mueller and end the Russia investigation.  That way Trump and Putin can go to work on running America for Russia’s benefit.

I may or may not be correct in this speculation.  I don’t claim to be.  However, we should check it out.

From Daily Kos: Here’s a heartwarming story about a little billionaire engine that could. Politico is reporting that billionaire GOP donor Mike Fernandez is so unhappy with how the Republican Party is acting these days that he is finished giving money until they get their act together.

“All the Republicans who hide behind the flag and hide behind the church, they don’t have the f—— balls to do what it takes,” Fernandez told POLITICO Florida in a telephone interview on Thursday.

Fernandez, a Miami-area resident, has long been a political rainmaker and donor, spending $3.5 million in ads against Trump in 2016 alone. He has, however, grown disenchanted with the direction of political leaders at both the state and federal level. He left the GOP due to Trump.

I can’t blame him for being angry. But, Mr. Fernandez, how do you really feel?

He called Trump an “abortion of a human being,” and hammered the New York developer in the harshest terms possible.

“If I was the doctor and knew what that baby would do, I’d have made sure it never would have seen the light of day,” he said of the president.

After offering Mr. Scaramucci the job on Friday morning, Mr. Trump asked Mr. Spicer to stay on as press secretary, reporting to Mr. Scaramucci. But Mr. Spicer rejected the offer, expressing his belief that Mr. Scaramucci’s hiring would add to the confusion and uncertainty already engulfing the White House, according to two people with direct knowledge of the exchange.

As the noose slowly tightens around the neck of Resident Donald Trump, Fuhrer of the Republican Rectum Reich, it is apparent that he is on the verge of desperate measures. Sad as it it, it appears that there is nothing so sleazy and devious that Trump’s minions won’t pursue it in defense of Republican fascism.

0721TrumpLockUp

Some of President Trump’s lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president’s authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort.

Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves…

…With the Russia investigation continuing to widen, Trump’s lawyers are working to corral the probe and question the propriety of the special counsel’s work. They are actively compiling a list of Mueller’s alleged potential conflicts of interest, which they say could serve as a way to stymie his work, according to several of Trump’s legal advisers…

From <Washington Post>

There are few people capable of dissecting such issues as these as Rachel Maddow.  Here, she talks with Ashley Parker, one of the authors of the Post article.

I did a little research myself and could not find any actual proof that the Fuhrer could not pardon himself, but there are limitations.  First, he would have to do so at the point of resignation, because he could not pardon himself for future offenses.  So, if he can pardon himself and stay in office, he will commit more crimes virtually immediately.  Second, if he could pardon himself, he can do so for federal crimes only.  Therefore it is imperative that State AGs prepare criminal indictments against him for financial felonies committed within their borders.

About Mueller, we need to keep an eye on the fate of Jefferson "KKK Beauregard" Sessions.  If Trump cans him, I think it will indicate that he’s about to go after Mueller.
