From Alternet: Arizona Republican Kelli Ward was blistered on Twitter on Sunday morning after it was revealed she and one of her staffers accused Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) of announcing that he was about to die at a time that would harm their campaign.

Late Saturday, following the announcement that McCain had succumbed to brain cancer at his home, Arizona TV reporter Brahm Resnik shared tweets between the staffer and Ward herself, in which they complained about the timing of McCain’s announcement that he was dying.

“I wonder if John McCain’s trying to steal attention from Ward’s bus tour by announcing his life is coming to an end,” the staffer wrote, with Ward replying, “I think they wanted to have a particular narrative that was negative to me.”

Well the next time John McCain dies, I hope he has the courtesy to consult these two fucking Republican idiots on the timing! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!  71 DAYS!!

Goodbye John

Senator John McCain and I disagreed on most issues, especially when he was running for President in 2008.  After he chose Bloody Bullseye Barbie, aka Drill Baby Dingbat, as his running mate, I even nicknamed him McConJob, because he was supporting Palin’s TEAbuggery several times daily.  That said, if I could have him trade places with any politician or pundit in Trump’s Republican Reich, I would do so without hesitation.  I pray for your family and all, who mourn your loss.  Goodbye John.

0826McCain

Senator John McCain, R-AZ, died at home at his ranch near Sedona today. He was 81 years old. His family announced earlier this week that the senator, whose brain tumor diagnosis was made public last year, would not be seeking further medical treatment for his cancer.

In his three decades in the Senate, McCain developed a reputation as the "maverick," voting according to his own principles instead of the party line. During his final years in office he stayed true to that designation by refusing to support the repeal of the Affordable Care Act last fall and continuing to be an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, who once dismissed McCain’s heroism as a Navy officer in the Vietnam War who survived five and a half years of imprisonment and torture with the quip, "I like people who weren’t captured."…

…McCain retired from the Navy in 1981 and was elected to Congress the following year as a U.S. Representative for Arizona, where he served two terms before being elected to the Senate in 1986. He ran for president twice, losing the Republican primary to George W. Bush in 2000 and the 2008 general election, with Sarah Palin as his running mate, to Barack Obama.

CNN reports that McCain did not want Trump to attend his funeral, but he did request that Bush and Obama be invited to deliver eulogies.

"John McCain and I were members of different generations, came from completely different backgrounds, and competed at the highest level of politics," Obama wrote in a statement posted to Twitter Saturday evening. "But we shared, for all our differences, a fidelity to something higher — the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed."… [emphasis added]

Chris Mathews reflected on McCain’s greatness.

In that last speech, he had to know he was about to lose, and he was trying to heal the nation.

Here are a couple of his most courageous moments.

The Republican Party and their racist billionaires were spending millions to convince people like that women that Obama was not really an American.  They were furious at him.

With no disrespect intended toward John, I do think it’s appropriate to discuss what happens to his Senate seat.  Arizona Governor, Doug Ducey [R] will appoint a successor, until a special election can be held in 2020 to fill the seat until the general election in 2022.  Ducey ran and was elected as an ideologue, but he has governed as a conservative pragmatist.  In all probability, we’ll get a replacement that will goose-step in lock-step with Bought Bitch Mitch and the Republican Reich.

John did have a sense of humor, but after all, he was a Republican.

Here in the CatBox, I’m quite comfortable.  WWWendy is due in about an hour to destink the TomCat.  Tomorrow, I have my semi-annual screening for a recurrence of eye cancer with Alison, my ocular oncological surgeon.  It’s the one I hate, because the ultrasound right on my eyeball is like fingernails scratching a blackboard inside my head.  Please expect no more than a Personal Update tomorrow, and I won’t be sending links messages at Care2.

Short Takes:

From Washington Post: Unions representing federal workers on Saturday declared victory in what they have described as an assault by the Trump administration after a federal judge struck down key provisions of a set of executive orders aimed at making it easier to fire employees and weaken their representation.

The ruling, by U.S. District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson in Washington, was a setback to the White House’s efforts to rein in federal unions, which have retained significant power over working conditions even as private-sector unions are in decline.

“It’s a big win for us,” said David Borer, general counsel for the American Federation of Government Employees. With 750,000 members, the AFGE was the largest of about a dozen unions to sue the administration to block the new rules affecting 2.1 million civil servants.

From Alternet: On Friday morning, the family of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) announced his decision to discontinue treatment for brain cancer. It was a solemn announcement, effectively signalling the imminent end of a man of towering career, service, and legacy, and it ought to have been treated with respect from people of all persuasions.

Sadly, that was more than Fox News’ "Final Thoughts" host Tomi Lahren could muster.

Just hours after the announcement, at a campaign event for Arizona GOP Senate hopeful Kelli Ward, Lahren proclaimed that "we can’t put up another RINO [Republican In Name Only] like McCain

From NY Times: Democratic Party officials, after a yearslong battle between warring ideological wings, have agreed to sharply reduce the influence of the top political insiders known as superdelegates in the presidential nomination process.

Under the new plan, which was agreed to on Saturday afternoon in Chicago at the Democratic National Committee’s annual summer meetings, superdelegates retain their power to back any candidate regardless of how the public votes. They will now be largely barred, however, from participating in the first ballot of the presidential nominating process at the party’s convention — drastically diluting their power.

Superdelegates will be able to cast substantive votes only in extraordinary cases like contested conventions, in which the nomination process is extended through multiple ballots until one candidate prevails.

I’d rather see the Super Delegate system eliminated entirely, but this is a giant step in the right direction. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

It’s that time of week again, so here are four fine video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: Orange Tuesday

Bill sure enjoys watching the stool pigeons come home to roost.

Kara Swisher: Keeping Tech Honest

I disagree with Bill about requiring ID on social media. Some people live in communities so Republican that they could not tweet they are gay, pro choice, or progressive without severe harassment or far worse.

Former CIA Director John Brennan

Brennan is right. All the officials and formal officials who are speaking out against Traitor Trump are heroes.

Would we be better off with Canada, instead of China?

“Everywhere I go, people tell me that if I am impeached, they’re going to watch it,” he said. “The ratings are going to be through the roof.”

He said that he expected his impeachment ratings to be “many, many times” the size of the audience for Bill Clinton’s impeachment, in 1998.

“It’s not even going to be close,” Trump said. “The ratings for Bill Clinton’s impeachment were a joke.

As much as we all know how big a pervert Trump is, I’m obviously talking about a different Pecker.  If the pecker he sleeps with, not counting Putin [R-RU], was exposed, nobody would ever know.  Anyone bizarre enough to want to see it would need a very powerful magnifying glass.  The Pecker in question is David J. Pecker, and he has more dirt on Trump than a dawg has fleas, and that dirt will be coming out.

0824TrumpsPecker

Federal prosecutors reached an immunity deal with the tabloid executive David J. Pecker, a key witness in their monthslong investigation into payments during the 2016 campaign to two women who said they had affairs with Donald J. Trump, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

Mr. Pecker is the chairman of American Media Inc., the nation’s biggest tabloid news publisher, which was involved in the payments, which prosecutors have identified as illegal contributions made in violation of campaign finance law.

As prosecutors in New York built a case against Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s longtime lawyer, that resulted in a guilty plea on Tuesday, Mr. Pecker emerged as an important figure. The investigation appears to be continuing, and as a longtime friend and ally of Mr. Trump, Mr. Pecker could have additional information valuable to the prosecutors.

In pleading guilty to campaign finance violations, Mr. Cohen said Mr. Trump directed him to arrange the hush money payments to protect Mr. Trump from embarrassing stories during the campaign. The cooperation of Mr. Pecker is another potential blow to the president from a former loyalist… [emphasis added]

Here is the one hundred thirty-second article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Ammosexual Republican Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos.   She is so honored for trying to spend funds intended to educate students on putting guns in school classrooms.

0823DeVosEducation Secretary Betsy DeVos is considering allowing states to use federal grant money to buy guns for schools, people familiar with the matter said.

Two people said the question has been raised inside the department as to whether states are allowed to use money available through Student Support and Academic Enrichment grants to buy firearms. Unlike other federal grants, this one does not expressly prohibit such purchases.

Allowing schools to use federal money to buy firearms would fuel anger among those who say the response to school shootings should be fewer guns, not more. But it could find support among gun rights advocates who say that having firearms in schools would make them less likely to be targeted.

“The department is constantly considering and evaluating policy issues, particularly issues related to school safety,” said Education Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Hill. “The secretary nor the department issues opinions on hypothetical scenarios.”…  [emphasis added]

Inserted from <Washington Post>

Whenever the Republican Reich evaluates policy issues, they are really floating a trial balloon to see how big a stink they’ll get.

I was surprised to discover that I’ve never given DeVos a parade before.  She was certainly overdue.  Betsy’s brother is Eric Prince, founder of the GOP SS, Blackwater.  When their reputation became so bad it was costing them, they changed their name to Xe.  They trashed their reputation again and changed their name to Academi.  It wouldn’t surprise me Betsy plans to line the family pockets with federal dollars by sending mercenary thugs to teach white supremacist teachers to blow away naughty Latino students.
