Yesterday, I learned my friend James, who has already been through so much, was in the process f having surgery on his ankle (which had prior surgery, but the screws from that were loosening and coming out.) That, according to his surgeon, usually means an infection, but he wanted to get in and look at it before mronouncing. Sure enough, the pathology lab found one, and he now needs to be on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks before the reconstructive surgery can happen (because otherwise he would lose the leg. Where have we heard this before.) Prayers and good thoughts are invited. (And I also got the email that my ballot has been counted. Yay!)

Short Takes –

CNN – These are the 9 House Republicans who voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress
Quote – Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming (January 6 committee member)
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania
Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio
Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington
Rep. John Katko of New York
Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois (January 6 committee member)
Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina
Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan
Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan
Click through for some background. Two, of course, are on the Subcommittee. But seven aren’t.

Wonkette – Another Criminal Investigation Into The Trump Organization? Sure Why Not!
Quote – In recent months, the district attorney’s office in suburban Westchester County, N.Y., has subpoenaed records from […] Trump National Golf Club Westchester, and the town of Ossining, which sets property taxes on the course, a sprawling private club that is perched on a hill north of New York City and boasts a 101-foot waterfall. The full scope of the investigation could not be determined, but the district attorney, Mimi E. Rocah, appears to be focused at least in part on whether Mr. Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, misled local officials about the property’s value to reduce its taxes, one of the people said.
Click through for details. While it’s entertaining to see TFG screwing up in civil suits, criminal investigations are far more welcoe. I really could not care who puts him and/or his spawn behind bars, as long as someone does. (Incidentally, how can s perso hold his or her mouth in that position?)

The New Yorker – Borowitz Report – America’s Children Demand That Joe Manchin’s Salary Be Tied to Work Requirement
Quote – Declaring “no more government handouts,” millions of America’s children are demanding that all future salary payments to Senator Joe Manchin be tied to a work requirement. Tracy Klugian, who is nine years old, said that Manchin’s current arrangement, in which he is paid for no work whatsoever, amounts to “an obscene ripoff of the American taxpayer.”
Click through for satire. I particularly like the implocation that children are smarter than adults. Sadly, that’s more often true than we like to admit.

  1. Sorry to read about your friend, James, and his prognosis, hope and pray that the IV antibiotics will work for him. Daily Prayers for him, and I’m also glad to read that you your ballot was counted. YAY!

Cartoon: Bet they (R’s) were proud too.
CNN: If that were me, I’d surely would have had the book thrown at me. Good for them. I hope he gets thrown in jail for contempt.
Wonkette: Good article. It’s really good (and refreshing) to see that the wheels of Justice is moving along. Liked reading his last sentence a couple times too. IDK how he holds his mouth like that either?
NYer: I can definitely agree on this one. Yes…most kids are wise beyond their years, and observant too.
    FFT: Uh…nope!

This just in: “Reading but deliberating … not sharing – Trump’s statement on the passing of Colin Powell is another reminder..- there is NO bottom. ~ Jim Sciutto ~
    2. “It’s impossible to be devoted to the Jesus of the Scriptures while refusing refugees expelling immigrants, demonizing Muslims vilifying people of color, worshiping political power, and neglecting the poor – which is exactly the point.” ~ John Povlovitz ~
    3. “Imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who narrowly survived a poisoning that he blames on the Kremlin, was awarded the European’s top human right prize Wednesday in a clear slap atPresident Putin. ~ Raf Casert ~
    4. “When we’re dancing with the angels, what did we do to make sure we kept our democracy intact?”
    ~ Elijah Cummings ~
    5. “TOT has demonstrated his inability to relinquish personal grudges or resist a chance to gloat, but his statement on Powell’s death left even the most jaded Trump critics aghast.  ~ Walter Wharton ~
    6.  “We’ll assume each and every @House GOP and Senate GOP member is ok with this, unless they show enough spine to disavow it.”  ~ Eric Swalwell ~ (TOT’s statement on the passing of General Colin Powell).

    • TJI # 1, 5 & 6 – There truly is NO BOTTOM to the depth of degradation that TFG isn’t all but gleeful in descending to.

    • TJI #1 – No bottom indeed.
TJI #2 – Yup. By their fruits ye shall know them. And these fruits smell like they have been harvesting the common stinkhorn (aka phallus impudicus).
TJI #3 – I hope Putin doesn’t just have him killed immediately. He seems to be smarter than that – but with authoritarians, you never know when their going to have a whim.
TJI #4 – All I can do is try to get out the word and to some extent the vote.
TJI #5 – We can only hope it startled even a few of his base – particularly veterans and military families – not that a few is enough.
      TJI #6 – Probably accurate.

  2. These are the 9 House Republicans who voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress

Certainly verifies Sen. Edward Kennedy’s famous words:

For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

Another Criminal Investigation Into The Trump Organization? Sure Why Not!

Well, there certainly is a well-documented family pattern …

America’s Children Demand That Joe Manchin’s Salary Be Tied to Work Requirement

I think Joe Manchin actually works very hard … at fleecing his constituents!

  3. Comment from Mitch –

Your friend, James: OUCH!  Yes, we have been down this road before.’Toon: Oh, the joys of  free market, untethered, capitalism!
CNN: Some brave, actually even patriotic, GOPers!
Wonkette: Your question: Eric is a special sort of Trump-Thing!  Hey, they got Capone on taxes, getTFG on any damned thing!
Andy: Manchin works, indefatigably, to screw whomever he can.
FFT: Bannon never looked so good! Dirtbag!
    Mitch

  4. CNN: Good for them. The ones who aren’t for bAnnon being prosecuted and still stand behind tRump need to be voted out of office the next time their seat comes up.
Wonkette: Glad to see that they’re continuing to find more crap on tRump, any businesses or organizations and associates that had anything to do with him.
TNY: Wise kids. I agree with their thoughts about Manchin’s pay.
So sorry to hear about your friend James. Glad that he was immediately seen and put on IV antibiotics. Will include him in my prayers, that the meds work quickly and he gets to feeling better soon, so they can fix his ankle.
Glad to hear your ballot was counted.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne
