Short Takes:

From YouTube (CNN Channel): Louis C.K. mocks Parkland survivors in leaked standup audio

Only one word is sufficiently despicable to describe a man that mocks kids, who suffered such a horrific experience. Call him a Republican, RESIST!!

From Washington Post: Democrats will take control of the House on Thursday with a stark challenge to President Trump, voting on legislation that would fund the federal government while denying Trump the money he has demanded to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

GOP leaders in the Senate said they would support only a proposal that has the president’s backing. And without additional wall money, the Democrats’ offer is unlikely to break the stalemate that has shuttered large parts of the federal government since Dec. 22.

But the strategy Democrats announced Monday would usher in a new era of divided government in Washington with a dare to Trump, aimed at forcing him and Senate Republicans to take their deal or prolong a partial government shutdown.

I don’t expect the bill to succeed, but that’s the best way to begin. Since the shutdown is Republican crap on the floor, it’s only right to rub their noses in it. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Japan, in many respects a model global citizen, has long been an outlier on whaling, an industry that most nations have abandoned as cruel, unnecessary and a danger to the survival of the great mammals of the seas, but that the Japanese claim as part of their culture. That divide has come to a head with Japan’s exit from the International Whaling Commission, a politically motivated decision Tokyo should reconsider.

Japan’s argument is that the commission was set up in 1946 to manage commercial whaling, not to ban it. After global populations of whales plummeted in the 1970s, the commission ordered a moratorium that went into effect in 1986 and looks to continue it indefinitely, despite intensive lobbying by Japan and other countries that defend commercial whaling, most notably Norway and Iceland.

In reality, Japan always flouted the moratorium, using a loophole that allowed “scientific research” to continue slaughtering thousands of minke, fin and sperm whales far from its shores and selling their meat on the domestic market.

That charade ends with Japan’s withdrawal from the whaling commission, which is good news for whales off Antarctica, since Japan said it would limit commercial whaling to its own territorial waters.

I fully oppose the killing of whales. The Sea Shepherds welcome the end of whaling in the southern oceans. I hope they begin to operate in Japanese territorial waters. RESIST!!

  1. 5:10 Colorful

Louis CK – Mocking survivors of a mass shooting is perhaps not the best way to stage a comback after having been implicated in misogynistic harassment. I am SO over him. It’s sad, because we need comedians, but not like him.

WaPo – Thursday – hey! That’s tomorrow! Well, there’s something to be glad about.

NYT – /s Nice to know we aren’t the only country too stupid to see that every species lost is another nail in our own coffins. /s Care2 has a petition.

Cartoon – Sweet baby! Old enough to have claws and teeth, though. He’ll need them.

  2. Happy New Year 2019 to everyone…may The Resistance lead the way for a better day for the country, world and future!!!

    Disappointed by Mr. CK……..not funny

  3. By mocking the survivors of the Parkland bloodbath, Louis C.K. is proving that he is an Ass H.O.L.E. What’s next, mocking survivors of the Holocaust?

It will be interesting to see what happens when Democrats take control of the House officially. How much of tRump’s damage will they be able to undo? In the meantime, it’s not too late to think about who should run for not only the White House, but also the Senate. We need REAL PROGRESSIVES on the blue ticket, not moderate DINOs!

Shame on Japan! Now I have another reason to be glad that I replaced my Honda with a Ford several years ago.

  4. CNN: What in the sam hill is wrong with him?? This is not comedy. It’s horrid. I’ll take Jim Carrey any day of the week, over this guy.

WP: Thank Gawd!! for our Dems!!!

NYT: Absolutely sickening. Don’t eat them, save them!!! Leave these magnificent creatures alone.

Cartoon: Kitties (and puppies) are so adorable when they’re little, and grow into such sweet beings.He/she is a cutie!!

We’re in the playoffs, vs. the Colts on Saturday. eeeee!!!! Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take good care, stay warm, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: Fun Fact: “In 45 years as a lawyer and a prosecutor, Robert Mueller has never lost a case.” yay!

    • Some people would say it’s impossible to accomplish that honestly, but I disagree.  It’s mostly in the selection of which cases to take to trial.

  5. CNN: When will these so-called comedians ever learn that people losing their lives due to mass shootings aren’t something to joke around with? Agree with Freya’s title for him.
WP: Pray our Democrats come in nice and strong. Not budging one bit.
NYT: Despicable. Save these mammals NOW.
    Cartoon” So adorable.
    Happy New Year to Everyone!

  6. 4:03 (average 5:38) I bow to you.

CNN: Louis CK mocking Parkland activists was bad enough, but worse was it wasn’t in the least funny. Sometimes jokes may be in bad taste or about someone we admire, but still able to make us suppress a smile because as a joke they’re funny. Nothing of the sort here, this is the uninspired, humourless mocking of a Drumpf; and of a comedian who’s dried up and on his way out.

WP: All eyes are on Democrats now; this is their big test. Will they stay united and stand firm while the GOP accuses them of all the things they themselves have been guilty off far too long? Show them your support, Americans! Take to the streets if necessary; not to protest, but to support. That’ll confuse the @#$ out of Drumpf and GOP.

NYT: So now whales have become political pawns too. Abe’s support has been dwindling and with new elections coming up this year, he has thrown the whaling moratorium to appease some voters in the whaling industry. He’s just pleasing some fishermen, but it won’t be for long, eating whale meat is no longer a cultural thing and has dropped with a third in the past decade. Let’s hope right-wing Abe loses the election and Japan rejoins the International Whaling Commission soon.

Cartoon: So young, so innocent…it’ll need to mature at a terrible pace.

  7. Puzzle — 4:36  Colourful but I hate bows!  Too prissy!

CNN — I have heard the name Louis CK but had no idea who or what he was.  Seems I did not miss anything!  If that is what passes for humour, mocking people for trying to making the country a better, safer place, then the US has a big problem.  I wonder if we could resurrect George Carlin?

WaPo — With Dems starting off their stint in control of the House on Thursday, I hope it does not get too stinky in the WH!  I hear Trump is so worried about Mueller and pending Dem investigations, and of course the appropriation for the wall that Dems won’t give him, he’s likely crapping his diaper!  I wonder if he thinks he can fire the Dems like he seems to do with anyone that doesn’t agree with him.

NY Times — Japan is an ancient culture but it definitely needs to update itself when it comes to whaling.  Seems to me that it was caught whaling in Antarctica a few years ago but were caught by the Sea Shepherd.  Time to boycott Japanese products?  These beautiful creatures cannot be lost!

Cartoon — Back at you little cutie!

  8. Thanks and tired hugs to all. 29

  9. Japan never stopped whaling ? ? they have been doing it all along under the guise of ‘research’!!
