The beginning of the last full month of even partial sanity in the US has been an incredibly busy day.  In addition to my normal first of month record keeping tasks, I have changed the poll and collected all the data for and made all the graphics for tomorrow’s Monthly Report, so I’m getting a late start here.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:58 (average 5:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (GQ Channel): Government-Backed Attackers” May Have Hacked My Account | The Closer with Keith Olbermann

Shit!!  What else is there to say?

From Daily Kos: Trying hard not to roll my eyes too much.

People in poverty-stricken Clay County [Kentucky] worry about what will happen to their health care if Gov. Matt Bevin’s and President-elect Trump’s ambitions to overhaul Medicaid proceed.

In Clay County, 60 percent of residents are covered by Medicaid. They voted for Republican Matt Bevin 71-27, and for Donald Trump 86-11. Neither Bevin, nor Trump, made their opposition to Obamacare secret.

As much as I hate to say it, I’m not sympathetic to the plight of people who did not oppose Trump and will suffer because of his evil Republican policies. At least they will be suffering the consequences of their own idiocy, unlike the plurality of Americans, who knew better, voted responsibly, and will still share equally in those sufferings. Responsible deserve relief first.

From The New Yorker: President-elect Donald J. Trump will no longer have day-to-day responsibility for driving his businesses into bankruptcy and will instead focus on bankrupting the country, one of his leading surrogates said on Wednesday.

Appearing on Fox News, Kellyanne Conway said that while Trump no doubt could “plunge both his businesses and the country into bankruptcy at the same time,” he feels that he “owes it to the American people to put them first.”

Acknowledging that Trump has no government experience, Conway said that his years of bankrupting a variety of companies would prove “invaluable” as he does the same to the United States.

Dang Andy! You’ve hit on a skill at which Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten will surely excel.

  1. 6:14  Well, you were smoking!  It took me longer to get the edges together than it took you for the whole puzzle.

YT/GQ – Well, I'm hurt!  I didn't get one.  Of course I hardly ever use my gmail address.  In fact, I haven't been there since 11/22.  Just checked it, and there's no warning now.  Clearly I'm not important!  (Not to diminish this; it is truly scary.  Time to change password, I would say!)

DKos – I've been reading about Clay County.  I have even analyzed the figures a little, and yes, they are pretty overwhelming.  Certainly many people whose health care is endangered voted to trash it, but probably not all.  And even idiots deserve health care (and probably need it more than non-idiots!)  But it is hard to feel sympathy.

TNY – Kellyanne must be in competition with Ann Coulter.

Cartoon – Happy Birthday Vivian indeed!

    • Thanks, Joanne! MUCH appreciated!

    • DKos:  The politicians convinced them that coal production would start back if Trump was elected.  The Repubs ran dozens of commercials showing Hillary saying "we are going to put a lot of coalmines out of business, and a lot of coal miners out of work."  Coal is the only industry in Eastern Kentucky, thanks to years of our local governments being owned by Coal Barons. I live in a new subdivision, at least 1/4  of the houses are for sale because the owners are out of work.  Those who don't work for the coal industry either work for the railways or trucking companies, no coal, no work.

  2. YT/GQ: Well said, Keith. Scary!!!

DK: That saying, "What goes around, comes around". Sad the residents of Clay County are finding this out the hard way…as are many other counties.

New Yorker: It pains me to read this, Andy. Not funny.

Cartoon: Very, very Best Wishes to you, Vivian!!! Hope you have a Wonderful & Happy Birthday!!!

Get some rest, take care of your shoulder, and enjoy the rest of the day. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Keep a cool head, TomCat, and don't let the data gathering and analysis get the better of you.

YT(GQC): Things are getting serious. As Keith puts it: This is now reality! And in 7 weeks we're going to inaugurate a president that isn't our choice but theirs. Putin in his Russian version of State of the Union today was tickled pink with the prospects of the wonderful relationship America and Russia are going to have. Now we know why.

DK: It's no use telling those poor suckers in Clay County "We told you so," because after all, they are poor suckers and they wouldn't hear of it anyway. The whole trouble with those very deluded Drumpf voters, who'll soon be very disappointed Drumpf voters, is that they didn't hear of it before they voted either as their whole world was based on what Faux News and some extreme right radio stations told them. But even these can't keep up the charade by ignoring that Drumpf and his "cabinet" are going to do exactly what Drumpf said he was going to do and that is destroy their lives, starting with their health care. No, I don't feel sorry for them, but I feel sorry for all those who didn't vote Republican.

TNY: Very true and definitely not funny, Andy. I feel sorry for you and all those other satirists who had a brilliant time right up to the election. It's just too hard to turn the stark reality of what is happening now into satire. We can only nod in agreement and say how spot-on you are; but laugh? Only when the resistance rises and wins.

Congratulations and have a wonderful birthday, Vivian!

  4. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes from all of you here and in Care2!!! Since my birthday is in December, my family always said, "This is for your birthday and Christmas, together!"! Although I only got one present, mine were always bigger and better than any of the rest of the kids and grandkids! LOL!

I enjoy listening to Keith Olbermann! He is what Clinton, better yet Bernie, needed talking for them during the campaign! He could have awoken some of the old Hippie's protest votes for the Dems, instead of for the Drumpfenfarter!

  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

YT/GQ: Yeah, "SHIT!" covers it all!  So much for the uneducated, and more!

    DK: Talk about dumb sheep!

New Yorker: Bankrupt the country/  How about he'll sell it to Putin, if he can make a "Great deal?"

  6. Youtube:  This makes me feel ill, and close to tears. The destruction of our country is well under way and it was assisted by ignorance and racism on the part of our citizens.  Sharing this video.

Daily Kos:  Sadly, a majority of Kentuckians voted the same way, convinced that Faux news was the gospel, and the Trumpster would lead them to the promised land.  I despair for my fellow citizens while wanting to "smack them up the side of the head" for being so gullible.  I shouldn't have to suffer with them.

The New Yorker:  Andy needs to quit publishing so much fact, we need to laugh at satire.

    Happy Birthday, Vivian!

  7. GQ Channel: Hackers & Spies, Inc. are out in force and coming to the closest liberal computer nearest you. Beware! Or is it "The Russians are coming, The Russians are coming!".

KOS: The people there, in Clay County, are going to find out the hard way of what it really means to be a republican. Unfortunately.

New Yorker: And the raping & pillaging of the USA has already begun… sigh.

Vivian: Another Birthday for Vivian! OMG! Many Happy Celebrations with Family & Friends in a noisy fashion or reflectively, quietly, maybe both. Hugzzz…

  8. Puzzle — 3:32 Sorry butterfly!  It is butterfly fricassée for the Puddy Tat tonight.

Youtube — WOW!!!   TC:  "What else is there to say?" — OH SHIT!!!

Daily Kos — I read this yesterday and could see the county residents all doing palm plants as they said "What did we do?"  A clear case of voting against your own interests.

The New Yorker — Andy would be doing straight reporting if this was after the inauguration.  His Twitter account was taken from Drumpf when he "over indulged".  Perhaps a pre-emptive strike is necessary to take the country from Drumpf!

    Cartoon —

    HAPPY

    BIRTHDAY
