Yesterday was a crazy day.  WWW had a great time with her niece at Santa’s pancake breakfast and got here at about 10 AM.  After we de-stunk the TomCat, I worked getting the blog published and messages out.  By the time we got done, I was completely pooped, so I fell asleep during meditation upon the Ellipsoid Orb.  I had thawed a package of turkey bird leftovers, do I feasted on bird and stuffing.  I still have a 2 lb. pkg. of frozen turkey in addition to the frozen soup base.  Store to door will be off two weeks at the end of December, so I’m trying to arrange alternative delivery to avoid Safeway.com.

I support them, but expect to see the Stanley Cup played in Hell before Republicans pass it. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Breaking his silence on Alabama’s embattled Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that dumping Roy Moore could start a “dangerous trend” of believing women.

“I think we need to be very, very careful here,” Trump told reporters. “This is not just about Roy Moore. This is about our country deciding that we are going to start believing women, something that we have never done before.

“This is a very dangerous road we’re heading down,” he said.

Trump cautioned that, if instituted, a new practice of believing women would “totally destroy” the system that the country already has in place. “For years we’ve had a system of believing men,” he said. “It’s worked very well. It’s done a great job.”

Andy, are you planning a return to satire? RESIST!!

From Alternet: President Donald Trump’s lawyer claims his client cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice because he is the president.

John Dowd, the president’s outside lawyer, insisted he drafted Trump’s tweet over the weekend that seemingly confessed to obstruction but argued the social media posting did no such thing, reported Axios.

“The tweet did not admit obstruction,” Dowd told the website. “That is an ignorant and arrogant assertion.”

The attorney insisted Trump could not possibly be guilty of obstruction because he was the chief executive.

That sounds like Crawford Caligula’s Unitary Executive hypothesis. RESIST!!

Proof of Conspiracy

Ever since it became evident that Michael Flynn, the main Republican facilitator between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, the Republican Reich has claimed that Flynn was a rogue player, doing things without authorization from or report to the Reich.  Now we have have proof that the Reich was in the loop on Flynn’s discussion of quid pro quo with Russia.

1203Conspiracy

When President Trump fired his national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in February, White House officials portrayed him as a renegade who had acted independently in his discussions with a Russian official during the presidential transition and then lied to his colleagues about the interactions.

But emails among top transition officials, provided or described to The New York Times, suggest that Mr. Flynn was far from a rogue actor. In fact, the emails, coupled with interviews and court documents filed on Friday, showed that Mr. Flynn was in close touch with other senior members of the Trump transition team both before and after he spoke with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, about American sanctions against Russia.

While Mr. Trump has disparaged as a Democratic “hoax” any claims that he or his aides had unusual interactions with Russian officials, the records suggest that the Trump transition team was intensely focused on improving relations with Moscow and was willing to intervene to pursue that goal despite a request from the Obama administration that it not sow confusion about official American policy before Mr. Trump took office.

On Dec. 29, a transition adviser to Mr. Trump, K. T. McFarland, wrote in an email to a colleague that sanctions announced hours before by the Obama administration in retaliation for Russian election meddling were aimed at discrediting Mr. Trump’s victory. The sanctions could also make it much harder for Mr. Trump to ease tensions with Russia, “which has just thrown the U.S.A. election to him,” she wrote in the emails obtained by The Times… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <NY Times>

What the Times missed is the fact that puts the final nail in the coffin.  KT McFarland’s email was shared with Reince Priebus, Trump’s then chief of staff; Steve Bannon, Trump’s then-senior strategist; Sean Spicer, Trump’s future press secretary; and others.  While Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten was not on the list himself, I find it inconceivable that he would not have known what was clearly common knowledge to the senior transition officials.

Amen pseudo-Hillary! Lock him up! RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Vice-President Mike Pence has requested that Jesus Christ rapture him up before the special counsel Robert Mueller can indict him, a source close to Pence confirmed on Friday.

Shortly after the former national-security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I., Pence contacted Jesus to discuss the early rapture proposal, the source said.

The source characterized Pence’s request to be raptured up as “urgent” but did not indicate whether the Vice-President asked Jesus to rapture up any other senior Administration officials.

Gee, Andy. Republican Supply-side Jesus (the opposite of the real Jesus) is welcome to poof Pence down to where he is. Then Pence can sizzle with Scalia. RESIST!!

From NY Times: As the tax cut legislation passed by the Senate early Saturday hurtles toward final approval, Republicans are preparing to use the swelling deficits made worse by the package as a rationale to pursue their long-held vision: undoing the entitlements of the New Deal and Great Society, leaving government leaner and the safety net skimpier for millions of Americans.

Speaker Paul D. Ryan and other Republicans are beginning to express their big dreams publicly, vowing that next year they will move on to changes in Medicare and Social Security. President Trump told a Missouri rally last week, “We’re going to go into welfare reform.”

They have claimed this was not true from the beginning, but we have always known they were lying. RESIST!!

The comparison with last November reveals that we have fewer unique visitors, but the ones we have are visiting more and reading more articles.  That’s a good thing, I think.

Here is our ClustrMap for 2017 Year to Date.

ClustrMap11-2017

ClustrMap misses a lot of visits, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location.

Here are our top five articles:

Your Administrators are Lynn Squance, aka Sasquatch or Squatch, SoINeedAName, aka Nameless, and I, aka TomCat, the Founder.  Your Editors are Joanne Dixon, aka JD the Erynator and Lona Goudswaard, aka Lona the Napster.  I  promoted them from Author in August to give them the ability to add graphics to comments and the ability to correct my innumerable typos.

This is our policy on links.  We do not embed links to extreme Republican websites, like Faux Noise, Breitfart or World Nut Daily.  However I leave notes in square brackets when I delete such links, (example: [faux noise delinked]) so readers, who wish to follow them can click through to the source article.  I also remove topical links.  Finally, I blank the target on all links, so they open in a new tab or window.

Thank you for all you do, everywhere you do it.

We have huge fights ahead, especially since the Republican Tax SCAM just passed the Senate.  And we have lost one of our premiere guiding lights.  Keith Olbermann retired.  To honor him and hold him up as an example for us to follow, here is his very first resistance video, published on 11/16/2016.

From YouTube (Jeff Merkley Channel): Senators Merkley and Klobuchar Highlight Worst Provisions of GOP Tax Scam

Republicans are desperate, because their $billionaire donors have put them on notice.  Pass it or the GOP dies of starvation.  Now it goes to conference to hammer out the differences between the House and Senate Bills, unless the House ratifies the Senate bill, as is. I doubt that will happen, because the InsaniTEA wing will object to all the pork Bought Bitch Mitch piled on to bribe the last few holdouts. In conference they are likely to fight. Then they have to approve the final bill in both the House and Senate.  We may win yet. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Kim Jong Un is concerned that his long-standing plan to destroy the United States has been made totally irrelevant by the Republican tax bill moving through the Senate, a source close to the North Korean dictator said on Friday.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Kim fears that his scheme to turn the United States into an uninhabitable hellhole has been to a large extent upstaged by a similar proposal from congressional Republicans.

“You have to understand, destroying America is something that Kim and his family have been plotting for decades,” the source said. “To see the Republicans swoop in at the last second and basically steal that idea—it’s got to hurt.”

Andy, never have you been more accurate. RESIST!!

From Washington Post: Alabama’s closely watched U.S. Senate race is a neck-and-neck contest as voter concerns about personal moral conduct weigh on the candidacy of Republican Roy Moore, according to a new Washington Post-Schar School poll.

With less than two weeks to go, support for Democrat Doug Jones stands at 50 percent vs. Moore’s 47 percent support among likely voters — a margin of a scant three points that sets up a nail-biter for the oddly timed Dec. 12 special election.

If we take that seat, it could make a difference in the Tax Scam. RESIST!!

Everyday Erinyes #103

Posted by at 8:42 am  Politics
Dec 022017

Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.  These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.  Even though there are many more which I can’t include.  As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. These roughly translate as “unceasing,” “grudging,” and “vengeful destruction.”

You may remember from last August a small protest in a little place called Charlottesville, VA.  And that a car ran into a group of unarmed peaceful protesters, injuring 19, and killing one – Heather Heyer.  You may even remember that a comment made on Facebook about a news story at the time went viral because it was so ugly.

“Hahahaha love this, maybe people shouldn’t block roads,” Conrad Lariviere commented on a news story noting “one dead, 19 injured.”

If so, you’ll be happy to know that Officer Lariviere has been fired from the Springfield (MA) Police Department.

“It was determined that Officer Lariviere impaired the operation of the Springfield Police Department or its employees and discredited the department,’ Commissioner [John] Barbieri explained.

The mayor of Springfield agreed.  “I stand by and agree with Commissioner Barbieri’s decision to fire Officer Conrad Lariviere over his insensitive and uncalled for Facebook remarks,” Mayor Domenic Sarno stated.

But you’ll likely be less happy when you hear that the police union wants him reinstated.  And one City Councilor agrees with the union.  The union statement includes “His point was that such disorderly behavior has serious consequences, and both sides of the dispute bore responsible for the disruptions,” which sounds to me sort of like “His point was that no matter how peaceful you are, if someone doesn’t agree with you, it’s open season on you.”

The City Councilor has a different viewpoint.  His beef is that there is another office on the force who deserves to be fired even more, but hasn’t.  And, actually, he is right.  The problem is, with this other officer, the city’s hands are tied.  The union contract includes what is essentially a 90-day statute of limitations, and this officer’s misdeeds were not discovered within that time period.  So the Department is forbidden by the contract from taking action, other than suspending him for 60 days and demoting him to the records department.

Alecto, what I think is that, when the union contract comes up for renewal (which I hope is soon), the Department needs a tougher and better negotiator.  And smarter.  Better able to foresee contingencies.

Mohammed Suleiman is a six-year-old boy who carries Down syndrome 21.  He is sufficiently developmentally disabled that he is not able to speak.  Yet, a substitute teacher called the police and filed a report that the child is a terrorist, because he kept repeating the words “Allah” and “boom boom boom.”

If you listen to the video on the site, you may also gather the teacher said the child “sexually harassed” her.  Right.

The Police Department is no longer investigating the matter of the report.  I personally would have thought that filing a false police report was a crime and that they ought to be gathering information to charge the teacher, but I do realize that some things are challenging to get legal evidence for.

Child Protective Services are also still investigating  I hope that means they are investigating the teacher, who is obviously so dangerous she should not be around any children ever, and not the child’s family.  But one never knows.

Megaera, if no one is investigating the teacher, maybe you can.  And, if they are, maybe you can help.

There are two other incidents I want to give some attention to without a lot of detail.  The first – which comes with a strong TRIGGER WARNING – is that of the little girl, aged 10 years, who was bullied to the point that she hanged herself.  A few more details are available, but some are also missing.  It happened in Colorado, in Aurora, and her name was Ashawnty Davis and she was adorable.

The second incident – well here’s the title:  Alt-righter insists his ‘Pepe the Frog’ hot sauce isn’t racist — it’s meant to mock people with autism.  And, you know, that’s exactly what he said.

“So it was originally intended to be a chicken-tendie sauce, like, you know, ‘These autistic kids go crazy about chicken tendies.’  So it’s a spicy tendie sauce. But it’s actually a very tasty hot sauce.”

Matt Furie’s attorneys have sent this dude a cease and desist order, which he intends to ignore, because “He never trademarked it.”  No, you jerk, he didn’t need to trademark it, because he HOLDS THE COPYRIGHT.  And he has the books to prove it.  He’s not required to register the copyright in order to hold it (although registering it give one a few additional rights, so he probably did.)

Tisiphone, in between dealing with bullies, I realize it’s going to be somewhere between difficult and impossible to get some sense into this dude.  But maybe you can make him cease and desist.

Late update:  Sarah Sims charges DROPPED.

The Furies and I will be back.

Here are the results of our “Thanksgiving Dinner” poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our polls are usually factually accurate, and more often than not, they reflect thinking of the majority of those who actually do think.

1201Poll

Since our polling site no longer enables us to copy and paste your poll comments, you may read them here.

Like most of you, I voted for and had Turkey bird.  Now I intended to have dawg, but someone got to it before I could.  I suspect that the Sasquatch cooked my dawg and shared it with her own kitties, without saving any for me!  Sad smile

The new poll is up.  Don’t forget to vote.  A friend left this message: Ho! Ho!! Ho!!!
