Lyin' Ryan (R-WI) has made it completely clear that one of the top priorities when the Republican Rectum Reich takes charge next year is repealing ObamaCare.  Although the Fuhrer promised over and over again, as he travelled the nation on his March of Million Lies, that Americans would NOT lose their health care, he was lying.  The only unanswered question is when.  Paul Krugmann wrote an excellent editorial on why Republicans want to snatch health care from millions.  Here is his conclusion.

1231krugmanhc

…Why do the Republicans hate health reform? Some of the answer is that Obamacare was paid for in part with taxes on the wealthy, who will reap a huge windfall if it’s repealed, even as many middle-income families face tax hikes.

More broadly, Obamacare must die precisely because it’s working, showing that government action really can improve people’s lives — a truth they don’t want anyone to know.

How will Republicans try to contain the political fallout if they go ahead with repeal, and tens of millions lose access to health care? No doubt they’ll try to distract the public — and the all-too-compliant news media — with shiny objects of various kinds.

But surely a central aspect of their damage control will be an attempt to push a false narrative about Obamacare’s past. Health reform, they’ll claim, was always a failure, and it was already collapsing on the eve of the G.O.P. takeover. When the number of uninsured Americans skyrockets on their watch, they’ll claim that it’s not their fault — like everything, it’s the fault of liberal elites.

So let’s refute that narrative in advance. Obamacare has, in fact, been a big success — imperfect, yes, but it has greatly improved (and saved) many lives. And all indications are that this success is sustainable, that the teething problems of health reform weren’t fatal and were well on their way to being solved at the end of 2016.

If, as seems all too likely, a health care debacle is imminent, blame must be placed where it belongs: on Donald Trump and the people who put him over the top. [emphasis added]

From <NY Times>

I shared his conclusion here, but I strongly recommend that you click through to read the entire editorial for an understanding of the facts he used to reach that conclusion.

Now, Republicans will offer their own health plan instead.  It's called RepubliCare, and it's famous for the RepubliCare Death Benefit.  Here's how RepubliCare works.  If you are rich enough to pay for health care, you get health care.  If not, the RepubliCare Death Benefit kicks in.  You get to die, and the Republican Party won't charge you a penny for the privilege.

It’s the last day of what has turned out to be the worst year for the US in our history.  The Siberian candidate is upon us. For me tomorrow is a perfect storm day.  I need to transition all my personal record keeping, all my prison volunteer group record keeping, and all the tools I use to manage my PP writing to 2017.  In addition, it’s the day I do the data collection for the PP monthly report, which may be a day or two late.  On top of that, It’s a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos went from Super Bowl Champs to not even making the playoffs, so tomorrow is their last meditation of the year against the Raiders.  It will be televised here.  And finally, it’s a Wendy day.  In short, I’ll be trying to put five pounds of shit in a one pound bag.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:37 (average 6:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (TYT Channel): Former New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino is in hot water after publicly posting racist comments on Facebook. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, and Grace Baldridge, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss.

Paladino is a Republican. Would that all racists, Republicans, were fired for their hate speech. "I’m so tired of liberals going out of our way to be fair to fucking assholes!" Kudos to Ana Kasparian! Big time AMEN!  RESIST!!

From The Hill: President-elect Donald Trump is considering George Conway, husband of top adviser and former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, to be the next U.S. solicitor general, Bloomberg reported Friday citing two sources familiar with the matter.

I’m not surprised that George Conway is getting a pimp fee for the Fuhrer’s grabbing activities.  RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: The Portland Press Herald is reporting M.D. Harmon, a well-known conservative newspaper columnist, has died after a gun was improperly fired in his home by a visiting teenager. Harmon was showing one of his guns to the young man:

Police say the 71-year-old Harmon died at his home on Brunell Avenue after a handgun he was showing a teenage boy went off. The 16-year-old boy was handling the gun at the time.

Harmon, a steadfast defender of gun rights and champion of conservative viewpoints, was a longtime Maine Sunday Telegram and Press Herald editor and columnist. He worked for the newspapers for 41 years before retiring in 2011, although he continued writing a weekly column.

Everyday Erinyes #57

Posted by at 8:08 am  Politics
Dec 312016

Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.  These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.  Even though there are many more which I can't include.  As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. These roughly translate as "unceasing," "grudging," and "vengeful destruction."

You may be familiar with the classic definition of chutzpah (insolence, impudence, gall) penned by Leo Rosten: "that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan."  I don't know whether that ever actually happened.  But I think we have a new definition, based on something which actually did happen: "that quality enshrined in a rapist who sues his victim, and the school which expelled him, for discrimination under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972."

Aaron Farrer, a 21-year-old from Lafayette, was accused of rape in September 2015 after a female student said Farrer took advantage of her drunken state. The woman showed police a text message she received from Farrer the next day apologizing for the incident. Farrer told police the woman consented to sex, and initiated the act.

So, he has just filed a Federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.  He says he was defamed.  He says he was a victim of intentional infliction of emotional distress. He says his constitutional rights were violated, and that he was not afforded due process.  He says the defendants "creat[ed] a gender biased, hostile environment against males."  Ah, me.  To the privileged, equality feels like persecution.

He says "the rape allegations against him were taken as truth from the outset."  Well, yes, when you admit and apologize to your victim in writing, and she is able to submit that as evidence, this is certainly a possibility.  It doesn't deprive you of due process.  Please explain that to him, Megaera, as only you can.

Question:  what would you do if you had adopted a dog or a cat and then decided you just didn't want it any more?  Trick question, right?  No on here would "just decide" they didn't want an animal any more after adopting it in the first place.  Or what if you just decided you didn't want your kid any more?  Really?  Would anyone do that?  Any human person?

In Halifax, PA, parents are facing multiple charges after police say three children were locked in a room, beaten and starved for three months because "they did not want them anymore."  I am not making this up.

Investigators found:

◦The six-year-old had a severe abrasion on his right eye; he said his father had thrown him across the floor as punishment, causing a severe facial injury
◦Victims told investigators that they would be locked in their bedroom at night and they could not leave the room
◦The four-year-old and five-year-old had visible signs of physical abuse; confessing to having been punched in the face
◦Victims said they would pound on the wall to get someone to take them to the bathroom, and they would urinate on themselves, on the bedroom floor, and no one would come
◦Victims said they didn't have a functioning heat source
◦Victims said the rooms were without furniture, and they would often peel paint off the walls
◦Victims said the last thing they could remember that they ate was an apple

"These were healthy kids, and while they were in their custody, these parents neglected them, starved them to such an extent they ended up the way they did," {Dauphin County District Attorney Ed] Marsico said. "We're prepared to prove they neglected these kids to such a point that they were near death."

There are things in the story which make me unsure to what extent the mother was a perp and to what extent she was a victim herself.  I cannot in conscience come down on one side or the other without more knowledge, so that's one thing I'm asking you to look into, Tisiphone.  Good luck.

So.  We've see two crimes of violence – sins of commission, as it were – and heaven knows there are more.  The guy in Las Vegas who was like, "How dare you object to me calling you a racial epithet, I'm going to beat you to death with this sign – oh, wait, my food's ready – OK, finished eating, I'll just beat you some more."  The woman who stabbed a black man in the New York subway because he offered her his seat – and he turned out to be transgender also – so she got a "twofer."  And, no, that isn't all.

But I want to turn to a sin of omission now.  WTF was this judge thinking?

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas – An elderly Ranger man was sentenced to probation and community service after pleading guilty to multiple child sex crimes that happened at a church in Taylor County….  Wright was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Well, sex offender registration is at least something.  But community service?  Is there anything in there that keeps him away from children? Or is he just being sent to a new happy hunting ground?

Okay, maybe prison is not the right place, but dammit, kids need to be protected, and if the church won't do it – and apparently it won't – the state needs to do it.  As one person commenting said"I can't belive, that we don't put child molesters in jail, they harm children, but we put drug addicts in jail for harming themselves. Just don't make sense to me."  Me neither, honey.  Alecto, I hope you'll keep an eye on him.

The Furies and I will be back.

Having just returned from a delightful and low-key Christmas visit to my Mom’s in Illinois, this one will be brief.

While Donald may strut the world-stage thinking he’s cock of the walk (well, he is a dick – so there’s that), China has taken a different approach to his impending presidency disaster.  They’ve decided to mock and ridicule him with a 23-foot tall statute of a cock.  (23-feet?  Right … with those tiny fingers?  In your dreams, Donald!)

Since the coming January 28th Chinese Lunar New Year will be the “Year of the Rooster”, the company that owns a shopping mall in the Chinese city of Taiyuan (in the northern province of Shanxi) commissioned a giant statue of one to stand outside welcoming shoppers to their complex.

But this rooster comes complete not only with Donald’s peculiarly curious coif, but also his overgrown bushy eyebrows and strange semaphore hand gestures.  (And you don’t have to be familiar with American Sign Language to know that Trump’s hands signal he’s a schmuck.)

So while Trump in just the short time from his “election” has managed to ruffle the feathers of China, they’ve managed to make money by mocking him.  You can buy replicas of the Trump cock rooster being sold by the Shenghe Yangtai Business for anywhere from $57 up to $1,739 for one standing 32-feet tall.

http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/311990-giant-trump-rooster-statue-erected-outside-chinese-mall

And it’s not the first time the Chinese have enjoyed mocking Trump.  Back in November a visitor to the zoo in Hangzhou noticed a golden pheasant had a striking resemblance to Donald.

My PSA of a Personal Note:

This was brief because, as I mentioned, I just got back from my Christmas visit, and spent this morning paying my county’s Personal and Real Property taxes, and doing my year-end charity donations online.

From my own experience, for those of you interested in taking advantage of your tax-deductible donations, it may not be common knowledge that while some organizations are fully designated as 501(c)(3) [for me, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, Doctors Without Borders, Southern Poverty Law Center] – others that you may want to give to [like ACLU and Planned Parenthood] are not.

SO to work around that obstacle and get a tax deduction, you can instead donate to the ACLU FOUNDATION (both national and state ones) and the Planned Parenthood FEDERATION of AMERICA, Inc.  Those are 501(c)(3) and fully tax-deductible.

Oh and don’t forget our duty for the next four years is to …

Obama Sanctions Putin

I rarely find myself agreeing with Paul Ryan (R-WI), but when I first learned that Barack Obama was taking steps to punish Putin (R-RU) for trying to influence the the Fuhrer’s electoral-college only win, my reaction was, "It’s about time."  I understand Lyin’ Ryan said the same thing.  However, since his party opposed informing the American propel to begin with, he was probably lying for show, when he said it.

1230Trumpputin

President Barack Obama issued on Thursday a series of sanctions against Russia for its role in tampering in the United States presidential election through cyber-attacks that worked to benefit President-elect Donald Trump.

The executive actions included several elements. The United States closed down two Russian compounds, in Maryland and New York, “used by Russian personnel for intelligence-related purposes,” Obama announced. It also expelled 35 Russian diplomats described as “Russian intelligence operatives” by the president, calling them “persona non grata” and giving them 72 hours to leave the country. The president also issued sanctions on four top Russian intelligence officials, the Russian spy agencies GRU and the FSB, and “three companies that provided material support to the GRU’s cyber operations.” The treasury department also issued economic sanctions against two men that were already on the FBI’s most wanted list for their alleged cyber crimes.

The New York Times reported that the sanctions against the intelligence officials were mainly symbolic, as such officials rarely conduct business in the United States or visit the country. Obama also hinted at other retaliatory gestures. “These actions are not the sum total of our response to Russia’s aggressive activities,” his announcement read. “We will continue to take a variety of actions at a time and place of our choosing, some of which will not be publicized.”

The intelligence officials expelled were removed in response to what the administration characterized as a campaign of harassment against U.S. diplomats in Russia. “The harassment has involved arbitrary police stops, physical assault, and the broadcast on State TV of personal details about our personnel that put them at risk,” State Department spokesperson Mark C. Toner said in a statement reported by the Washington Post.

Vladimir Putin’s government was promising to respond to the sanctions in kind and his embassy in the United Kingdom taunted Obama as a lame duck…

From <Slate>

MSNBC had some good coverage of the story.  In the Rachel Maddow Show, Ari Melber interviewed David Sanger.

Then on The Last Word, Lawrence O’Donnell interviewed Steve Clemons, David Frum, and Richard Nephew.

A lot of the controversy about how much to reveal resolves around whether to reveal Sources and Methods.  It makes sense that if the Russians find out about how we obtained SIGINT, they will close those communications loopholes.  Worse yet, sources of HUMINT are people and if Putin discovers the identities of US agents, they will be dead faster that that a Republican will steal grandma’s pension.

However, I’ve hit on something the professional newscasters have missed.  Next week, the Fuhrer is taking time away from his main pursuits of tweeting and pussy grabbing to receive an intelligence briefing on the subject.  In that briefing, he will be told sources and methods.  You can be sure that he will transfer any damaging information about Sources and Methods to his Russian handlers to stop the flow of information about his treason.

Therefore I think Obama needs to give the American people the info, since Trump will give it to Putin anyway.

The last year of comparative liberty is about to come to an end, and I shall be quite busy with record keeping.  I just received my annual Social Security letter.  My rent has increased $15 per month in the last year, medical copays – $30, groceries – $20, medical transit – $15, so that’s $80 per month hitting only the obvious.  Fortunately, I received a generous Cost of Living Adjustment to help defray that expense.  I got a whole dollar every month.   And in the coming Republican Rectum Reich, I may not even get that, although it’s possible that they will defer the change a few years to get past the 2020 voting.

From YouTube (RWW Channel): RWW News: Bakker: Hell Opposes Trump Because He Supports Righteousness

Barf Bag Alert!!

This is the same Jim Bakker that cheated on Tammy Faye and defrauded over 100,000 supporters out of $millions through assorted PTL Network scams. He certainly recognizes his own king in Trump. The Fuhrer is so righteous he called Ivanka a "piece of ass". RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Capping an extraordinary year for the former television host, the Kremlin has named Donald J. Trump its Employee of the Month for December.

“No one has worked more tirelessly for the glory of the Fatherland than Donald Trump,” the Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an official statement. “He has set a high bar for all Kremlin employees, and for that, we salute him.”

To mark the honor, Trump’s name will be added to a plaque that hangs in the hallway outside the Kremlin’s H.R. office.

According to Kremlin sources, Trump faced tough competition in the Employee of the Month voting, besting both Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and ExxonMobil’s C.E.O., Rex Tillerson.

OK, Andy, I give up. Is it satire, or are you actually suggesting that Putin (R-RU) honor his whore?  RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Republicans have no idea how to replace Obamacare and continue some semblance of care for the 20 million people the law covers, so they’ve come up with a solution: delayed implementation on steroids.

That’s right—Obamacare [repeal] is so “unpopular” that the GOP is trying to avoid backlash at the polls by delaying the effects of implementing it, potentially until after the next presidential election. Sahil Kapur writes:

Republicans are debating how long to delay implementing the repeal. Aides involved in the deliberations said some parts of the law may be ended quickly, such as its regulations affecting insurer health plans and businesses. Other pieces may be maintained for up to three or four years, such as insurance subsidies and the Medicaid expansion. Some parts of the law may never be repealed, such as the provision letting people under age 26 remain on a parent’s plan.

House conservatives want a two-year fuse for the repeal. Republican leaders prefer at least three years, and there has been discussion of putting it off until after the 2020 elections, staffers said.

Sheer cowardice! Talk about trying to untether themselves from the damage they will inflict on tens of millions of Americans. They repeal it, they own it! Doesn’t matter how long they delay implementation in order to lay the blame at someone else’s doorstep.

This is classic Republican projection.  We need to hammer home the damage this will do, especially to states in thrall to the Republican Rectum Reich, every day until the Republicans are defeated.  RESIST!!

Here is the ninety-first article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Trump supporter and Republican demonstration organizer, Andrew Anglin. He is so honored for a for his violent hatred against Jews. Hat-Tip to Lona for sending me the article.

1229TrumpNaziA neo-Nazi Donald Trump supporter is planning an armed march to terrorize Jews in a small Montana town next month.

As we reported last week, Andrew Anglin began targeting Jewish residents of Whitefish, Montana, in response to reports that Sherry Spencer, the mother of white supremacist alt-right founder Richard Spencer, was facing backlash from locals over her son’s views.

Anglin, who publishes The Daily Stormer [Republicans delinked] website, posted the names, photos and home addresses of Jewish residents, calling for people to "take action" against them. Spencer reportedly lives in Whitefish part time and is considering running for Congress there.

Now, Anglin says he’s planning an armed march through Whitefish in January "against Jews, Jewish businesses and everyone who supports either." A web graphic announcing the march (pictured, with faces of residents blacked out) included a photo of the entrance to Auschwitz and a yellow Star of David with the word “Jude” printed in it.

“Montana has extremely liberal open carry laws, so my lawyer is telling me we can easily march through the center of the town carrying high-powered rifles,’" Anglin wrote, according to ABC Fox Montana. "Currently, my guys say we are going to be able to put together about 200 people to participate in the march."

Anglin said he plans to bus in "skinheads from the Bay Area" for the march, which he said will be "an absolutely massive victory for our cause," according to The Forward [Republicans delinked]… [emphasis added]

News is still in short supply, unless one wishes to repeat the same stories, day after day, where only the individual identities of the targets of hatred from the Fuhrer and Republican Rectum Reich are new.  Nevertheless, I’m back in the saddle.  Yesterday’s bank run proved most interesting.  In the shower, Stumpy had bee3n hanging down without a shrinker, causing him to expand, and the hot water made it worse, so as I dressed to go out, Stumpy would not fit into George.  Thankfully, Wendy accompanied me to the bank, and in return, I treated her to burritos from a neighborhood food cart.  Fortunately George popped on without difficulty today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:52 (average 4:53).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: As the Republican Congress prepares to vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act, gutting Social Security benefits for seniors and the disabled, and other measures to please their billionaire donor base, they are apparently deathly afraid of the American public seeing them do it, and even more afraid of allowing the public to see the Democrats’ response:

House members could be fined and referred to the Ethics Committee if they break rules governing electronic video and pictures in the House chamber under a new rule proposed by House Republicans more than six months after the Democrats’ guerrilla sit-in over gun control.

"Any subsequent offense will be assessed at the higher amount, regardless of whether it is connected to any other offense by time or proximity," part of the proposal reads.

The “fine" would be $500 for the "first offense" of photographing or videotaping, with $2500 for every "subsequent offense," according to the proposed Rule.

In addition, the new Republican rule would ban anyone from seeing organized protests by the opposition, because sit-ins in the House well will be banned as well.

The First Amendment is suspended for the Republican Rectum Reich.  RESIST!!

From Robert Reich: [Resident]-elect Donald Trump is accusing President Obama of putting up “roadblocks” to a smooth transition.

In reality, I think President Obama has been too cooperative with Trump.

In the waning days of his administration, I’d recommend Obama take the following last stands:

1. Name Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution gives the President power to fill any vacancy during the recess of the Senate. The Supreme Court is no exception: Justice William Brennan began his Court tenure with a recess appointment in 1956. Any appointments made this way expire at the end of the next Senate session. So if Obama appointed Garland on January 3, the appointment would last until December 2017, the end of the first session of the 115th Congress.

The Reich on the left is right. I shared one. Click through for the other six. I particularly like number three.  RESIST!!

From The Rachel Maddow Show:

Taking credit where credit is NOT dueVice President Biden’s Former Economic Advisor Jared Bernstein talks to Ari Melber about how Trump is trying to take credit for job growth when his policies could very well undermine his constituents.

You can be sure that, as soon as the Pumpkin Plutocrat is responsible for any economic developments, he will give "credit" for them to Democrats.  RESIST!!
