Fitzwalkerstan: Latest polls

Things are looking up for the recall elections in the Republican Corporate Plutocracy of Fitzwalkerstan, formerly known as Wisconsin.  If Democrats can win three of the six recall elections, despite the flood of lies and crimes funded by the Koch Brothers and other corporate criminals, they will take back the state senate, moving Fitzwalkerstan one step closer to becoming Wisconsin again.

Looking at all Wisconsin recall polling that has been released to the public since late June, here is the overall picture:

These averages include Daily Kos/PPP polls (see here and here) of the six recalls on Aug. 9, two internal polls from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin released to the public (see here and here), and two polls from a new polling firm published in the diaries by jmartin4s.

While I am aware that some other researchers disagree, I have never had any problem with including party or campaign funded polls in my averages. I am, however, a bit wary of the polls published in the diaries, given their extremely low-cost, non-standard methodology. Removing those polls, here is the picture:

Either way, Democrats lead in three of the six campaigns, and are close in the other three. Since they need three wins in order to take control of the Wisconsin state senate, this gives them a distinct advantage. Further, as I explained two weeks ago:

Democrats are way ahead in one of the six campaigns. This means they only need to win two of the five campaigns that are actually competitive, while Republicans have to win four of those five. That is a significant Democratic edge.

So this is all very good news…

Of course, this will not return the state to sanity in itself, because Walker and his Koch suckers will still hold the Senate, but if we win, we will at least have a way to check their Machiavellian plots.  If you live there…

  1. Fuck ’em if the people of Wisconsin are stupid enough to leave the status quo they deserve the raping they get. Any one ignorant enough to be swayed by a television commercial or a piece of mail is a person to lazy to do their own research on who they are or are not voting for. And those are the ones who whine the most when it doesn’t turn into the promised paradise. I wonder how many of those people who protested actually voted for Walker in the first place instead of looking at his record as county manager or what ever the hell he was before he took a load from two Kochs?

    • Mark, I suggest that fart too many did exactly what you said. Some voted for him. Some stayed home. Some cast protest votes. All are responsible, but I continue to support their effort to take their state back.

  2. Again TWM and I are on the same page! I was prepared to call this wk-end but I’m not lifting a finger – I know it’s somewhat suicidal to allow those stupid WI-ites to effect the entire union condition of the country! – So what’s new – I’m of the opinion that I’ve worked too much for too long and gotten fucked over so many times – I don’t give a shit!!!! Let the god damned tea boogers find out for themselves just what they’ve brought upon us all! Hopefully they’ll all be brewing tea mischief as homeless shit heads on the street!
I am horrified, scared and fighting mad – the instincts of fight or flight are overtaking me and fight is winning out – as a pacifist all my life, I’m ready to “change”! 😑

  3. At this point it looks good- I think the biggest point here– The need to take back their state– setting a model—and giving hope that united we win-

  4. Why didn’t they go after the tea baggers in the House or Assembly too? Might as well have killed two birds with one stone. I agree that the Senate is more important, but why not clean house when you have the chance? That way, with Walker going in January, you’d have a true blue WI, as it should be. I don’t know how many seats they hold in the Assembly, but Madison is one of the bluest cities in that state along with Milwaukee. Recall all of them I say!

    • Republicans have a much wider majority in the House. Trying to take it back would be a greater and more costly effort with less of a chance to succeed.
