InsaniTEA in Oslo

When I first learned of the tragic terrorist attack in Oslo, Republicans and the corporate media were quick to blame Al Qaeda.  I heard such speculation on MSNBC.  It turns out, however, that this is a case of Right Wing terrorism. Now the right doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.  Is it fair for me to associate Breivik’s violence with the Tea Party, as I did in the title?  I think it is, because a direct connection exists.

Corporate-MediaWhen news began to unfold on Friday of the terror attacks in Norway that has left more than 90 dead, many blogs and Twitter accounts immediately lit up with speculation about who was behind the massive bombings in Oslo and the subsequent attack on a youth camp 20 miles away.

But some pundits, mostly right-wing neoconservatives, proclaimed that this bore all the hallmarks of Islamic terrorism, even going so far as to draw policy prescriptions. At the Washington Post, normally a well-respected news outlet, Jennifer Rubin quoted the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies‘ [fascists delinked] Thomas Joscelyn and AEI [Neocons delinked] scholar Gary Schmitt [neocons delinked] to say that the attacks were the result of Islamic terrorism. She then concluded the “jihadist” attack on Oslo means the U.S. shouldn’t cut military spending… [emphasis added]

Then the smoke began to clear.  In Yesterday’s Open Thread, I said that he identifies himself as a conservative Christian.  He was half right.

24BreivikA rambling, 1,500-page manifesto purportedly written by the suspect in Friday’s bloody terror attacks in Norway lays out right-wing extremist views and vows that a "European civil war" will lead to the execution of "cultural Marxists" and the banishing of Muslims.

While the title page of the document says "By Andrew Berwick," the writer goes on to later to identify himself as Anders Behring Breivik, the suspect in the Norwegian terrorist attacks.

The document, which is part political diatribe, part confessional and part action plan, details Breivik’s background and his plans to commit Friday’s attacks. It also contains various photos of him.

"If you are concerned about the future of Western Europe you will definitely find the information both interesting and highly relevant," the author writes, adding later that the work took him nine years to complete.

CNN has not been able to independently verify that the document was written by Breivik. But police told the Norwegian newspaper VG that the document is "linked" to Friday’s attacks… [emphasis added]

Now he’s starting to sound like a Republican brown shirt, and there’s even more to come.

Norwegian news reports confirm that Anders Behring Breivik, the gunman detained in connection to the terrorist attack yesterday in Oslo and Utoya Island, has confessed and called his actions “necessary.” This afternoon, reports emerged that Breivik had recently posted a political YouTube video outlining why “Christian soldiers” and “cultural conservatives” should rise up against “multiculturalism,” Muslims, and what he viewed as Marxist influence in society… [emphasis added]

Now I still haven’t connected this man and the Republican Tea Party.  Here is that evidence.  Breivik was involved in Norway’s tea party, known as the Progress Party.

…As if turns out, Tim Phillips, President of the Tea Party group Americans for Prosperity, [InsaniTEA delinked] spoke at a Progress Party event in 2010. According to an article published in the Norweigen [sic] paper Aftenposten on April 24th, 2010:

Phillips was invited by the Progress Party leadership to talk about grassroots organizing. But he talked mostly about how his organization is fighting for a weaker central government and lower taxes, to health reform and climate change.

Americans for Prosperity [for the rich only] is the Koch funded Tea Party group, and has been heavily involved in spreading Teabuggery in Europe.

The point here is simple.  Republican hate is dangerous, all over the world.

  1. You said it best, TomCat! ” Republican hate is dangerous, all over the world. ” 👿

  2. Guess he was following the advice of Sarah Palin. “Don’t retreat, reload.”

  3. I guess I called it right yesterday. I didn’t know I was so smart. LOL!

  4. Just a reminder that back in 2009 the Dept. of Homeland Security issued a report warning of the threat of homegrown right-wing terrorism. And true to form the rabid right-wing noise machine cranked up the decibels calling that report “propaganda and a hit-job” (Michelle Malkin); “make-believe” (National Review); an effort by Pres. Obama to “go after the Tea Party” (Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity); “There are no Timothy McVeighs out there” (Lou Dobson – founder of the right-wing Focus on the Family), etc., etc.

The DHS, Southern Poverty Law Center and reasonable/responsible/SANE Americans knew that the report warning us of the dangers right-wingers was spot-on!

    • Thanks Nameless. I was thinking about that, and how Republicans had their panties in a bunch claiming that the report was left wing propaganda.

Long before that report came out, I have said that Al Dubya is a far greater threat to American freedopm and security than Al Qaeda.

  5. Another tragic example of right wing hysteria. I hoped it was a terrorist group. I felt worse after the OKC bombing than I did with 9/11. It’s so different when it’s one of your own.

    • It was a terrorist, tied to a terrorist group, the Progress Party, tied to another terrorist group, Americans for Prosperity (for the rich only).

  6. In my opinion– the right wing radicals are very capable of the same thing here– “Islam” is a straw target when the real threat is from the teabagger “Insanitea” group– the far right wing—

  7. This is an example of what we can look forward to with a Bachmann presidency.

  8. Thanks Tom! I had no idea how contageous the tea bug was! It’s a malignancy –

  9. When we get to the political extremes, violence is a factor.
Teabaggers are willing, charging to bankrupt America, to push their “kill off America” agenda.
Their brown shirt tactics at those “Health Care Town Hall Meetings” – and most Americas got “fun” out of watching.
If they are unwilling to bend; American History tells us they will be broken, and not in a nice way. That’s as it should be, for such groups.

  10. I HATE PEOPLE WHO HATE!!!
    He said ironically.

Funny thing about hate filled boomerangs, they have a funny way of coming back to hit you in the back of the head much harder than when you threw it out there. So be careful what you wish for KKKristians!

For almost two thousand years, more people have been killed, tortured, raped, starved, impoverished, made homeless and terrorized by KKKristians than by all other religions, including Islam, combined. That’s because it was the Bible that justified their hellish actions.

Looking back now, we should have never let them burn the library in Alexandria.

  11. Tom, you made your case masterfully. Hate is a killer–no matter what’s its source. But when we can source it, we need to shine a spotlight on it and expose it.
