I bet you’re thinking old TC has lost his mind, huh?  Believe it or not, there actually is an elected public official that has publicly endorsed rendering American citizens to Siberia, but not just any citizens.  To be rendered to Siberia NH state Senator Martin Harty thinks they must have committed the crime of being mentally ill.

12GOPSiberiaState “budget writers looking for cash to balance the books have stripped a cumulative $1.8 billion from mental health services over the last 2 1/2 years,” with some states like Kentucky slashing their spending by as much as 47 percent. This is particularly alarming when viewed alongside incidents like the mass shooting by Jared Loughner, who many suggest was mentally disturbed.

In light of this huge wave of cuts, Sharon Omand, a community health care center manager and resident of Stafford, New Hampshire, called her state senator Martin Harty (R) recently to request more funding for community mental health programs and for the homeless. Omand was shocked by Harty’s response. The state senator told her “the world is too populated” and that there are too many “defective people.” When Omand asked what should be done with these “defective people” that are mentally ill, Harty suggested sending them to Siberia, something that he said Hitler was “right” to do… [emphasis added]

I’m almost at a loss for words here.  Note here that I did not compare this Republican to a Nazi.  He did so himself when he invoked Hitler as a reference for his beliefs.  I wonder how long it will take him to make his way to Fox, the Republican Reichsministry od Propaganda, to get endorsements from, Beck, Hannity, and O’Reilly.  I hope the good people of New Hampshire set a repeal in motion immediately.

  1. He thinks Hitler sent people to Siberia?

Clearly the man’s own mental coherence is not up to par. Maybe he should be invited to become the first test case of his own prescription for the “defective”.

I can see why a Republican would find the idea appealing, though. When such policies are actually applied, the definition of “defective people” tends to expand in convenient ways. The regime which actually ran Siberia penalized groups like gays and opponents of unlimited state power as mentally defective — something many Republicans would doubtless like to do, even if they prefer the term “sinful”.

  2. I have no problem with this, actually (snark). If it also includes ALL REPUBLICAN legislators in off- ice at the current time. 😀

  3. It just keeps getting more OUTRAGEOUS~! lol

  4. The guy is 91 and has been exhibiting confusion in his first elected post. See what happens when Dems stay home?

Anyway, yes, he’s a rat’s ass, but I believe he’s a senile rat’s ass. In his own words, a defective person who should be sent to Siberia.

It’s not what he said in his delusional state. It’s how the other Republicans are defending his statements that is more worrisome.

  5. We already have a place for defectives ; They get elected to go to Washington , were they continue to display behavior that gives new meaning to “monkeys in a zoo”–

  6. I got one simple message (OK – so maybe it’s two) to the hate-mongering Teapublican Party:

    ‹^› ‹(•¿•)› ‹^›

  7. I’ve got two better ideas: either outsource used-up pols like him to China, or rendition them down to Gitmo.

  8. Obviously the fellow is senile, but what does this say about the people who voted him in – again?

    • They were duped, just like the everyone who voted in Republicans anywhere. What does it say about the people who recruited them and paid for their campaigns?

  9. The Dems need to use their campaign funds in 2012 for a HUGE smear agains the republicants; something like panning across a band of starving, ragged children begging on the streets, then have a voiceover, “You SEE what republicans are DOING to AMERICA??? If you are making less than $250,000 a year and have a thread of decency left in your bones, for the children’s sake, DON’T HELP ELECT A REPUBLICAN!!”
